‘Pako – Car Chase Simulator’ Goes to the Moon and More in Latest Update

TouchArcade Rating:

One of my absolute favorite high-score chasing games is Pako – Car Chase Simulator ($1.99) from Tree Men Games. Released in August of last year, Pako sets you loose in a variety of different environments and in a variety of different vehicles with one main goal in mind: don’t get caught! Your brakes are on the fritz and the cops are chasing you, so you must dodge obstacles at all cost and you’re score is based on the amount of time you can survive in each level before inevitably crashing into something. It’s stupid amounts of fun, and Tree Men have done an excellent job of adding new content to the game since its release last year.

This week, the latest Pako update has arrived and it brings three brand new maps into play. First up is a trailer park that, naturally, has railroad tracks running right through it. Spoiler alert: If the train hits you you’ll die. The next map is a launchpad for a rocket ship, and apparently launching rockets into space is some pretty high security stuff because this map is littered with tanks that are out to get you. Of course, if one of those tank shells were to hit the rocket, who knows what might happen. The launchpad leads right into the third new map, which is the moon. Yes, the actual moon. You get to drive around in a freaking lunar rover while UFOs blast at you with lasers. It’s amazing. Here’s a trailer showing off all this new stuff.

As I said before, Tree Men Games have been awesome about keeping Pako updated with new content over the past year. In addition to these 3 new levels, they’ve also added things like a hockey rink where you can drive around on a Zamboni, an airport level where you start out on foot and can then enter any number of vehicles including an airplane, and a destruction derby-style arena where you can choose from 4 different vehicles to enter with as you avoid tons of pursuing cop cars as well as other derby participants. Truly Pako is the gift that keeps on giving, as I’ve had countless laugh out loud moments playing it since its release. So if you’re already a fan be sure to check out the new content, and if you’re not a fan yet, definitely consider hopping on the Pako bandwagon.

Nice! Since Kemco devolved into making shovelware RPGs, someone else should handle making the newest successor to Top Gear (the arcade racing game obviously, not the reality TV show with those jaded British car nuts), spiritual or otherwise. This certainly looks like a worthy successor to me.

After just having bought Outrun 3D for the 3DS, this is total instabuy material for me

Reminds me of Turbo Outrun and Chase HQ. I remember I had that Chase HQ 2 that came on a cartridge you'd plug into the port at the back of the C64. This looks great!

It would be really, really hard to dethrone Final Freeway 2R, but this is definitely exciting!

There is something *so* gloriously "Star Rider" (Williams 1983) about this. Maybe it's the huge polygon trees...

Looks fun. I've been an fan of retro style racers since before they where retro. I still collect and in joy them for the SNES, Genesis and NES as well as many Pre-nes systems. The Genesis in particularly has some of the best. I agree that capturing the spirit of these older games is more important that coping them exactly. I've played games that have really captured the feel of retro games, but with a modern graphic twist and also have played games that capture the graphics of older games perfectly and yet felt nothing like them. I can say I enjoy the former more than the latter.
