We live in a world where Game of War (Free) has had both Kate Upton and Mariah Carey under its wings and Liam Neeson has been in a Clash of Clans (Free) SuperBowl commercial… So, is today’s news that UFC’s Ronda Rousey is coming onboard as the official Taichi Panda (Free) spokesperson really that weird? I mean, Taichi Panda is a free to play beat ’em up sort of thing and Ronda Rousey is really, really good at beating people up so as far as celebrity endorsements and tie ins are concerned, this makes more sense than most. If this is the first time you’ve heard of Ronda Rousey, I think the best introduction is this video where she wins against Cat Zingano via submission in 14 seconds:
So, yeah. Here’s the first thing their new spokesperson has to say about the game:
In Taichi Panda, you have to beat down opponents using kung fu and magic. The game is about building up your warrior, taking on other players in matches, learning their weaknesses and playing up your strengths to win. In a lot of ways it’s similar to my own experience with MMA. You’ve got to strive to be the best, work hard to find that inner fighter and let it loose.
It’s anyone’s guess if Ronda Rousey is going to be playable in the game (That would be pretty cool.) but she will be appearing in future TV commercials. …And now we have an excuse to post about Ronda Rousey on TouchArcade. I didn’t think I’d ever be able to say that. Does that mean going to a bar and drinking tons of beers watching her upcoming match on August 1st counts as a business expense?
I’m going to say… Maybe.
