War Always Has Casualties: ‘Game of War: Fire Age’ Switches Kate Upton With Mariah Carey

TouchArcade Rating:

It’s a slaughter out there, apparently, as Game of War: Fire Age (Free) developer, Machine Zone, has decided to replace Kate Upton with Mariah Carey in its upcoming commercials, a move that many will find quite intriguing. For those who don’t follow the game or its commercials, Game of War: Fire Age is a F2P money-making machine that brings in about one million dollars a day. The game’s commercial for Super Bowl 2015 garnered a lot of attention both because it used one of the most popular models in the world and because it wasn’t about beer or Doritos but, rather, about a video game. According to the developer, Upton’s commercial has helped double the game’s IAP sales. In other words, Upton has helped Game of War garner media attention and also increase its revenue.

Knowing that the Upton-Game of War alliance was a fruitful one makes the transition from Upton to Carey even more intriguing as the two celebrities definitely represent different marketing strategies and are popular in different demographics. Mariah Carey was a huge superstar up until about a decade ago and is still very popular, especially after her stint in American Idol; however, she doesn’t appear in social media and celebrity news as often as Kate Upton does. The director in charge of the Mariah Carey commercials is the director of Terminator Genisys, and the commercial will feature music by Carey, although no word whether it will be older or newer songs. Finally, the deal is rumored to be in the seven figures, so not a bad move for Mariah Carey. What do you think of Machine Zone’s move? Will it bring more players and more revenue to the game, or was Upton a better “representative" of Game of War?
