One of my unexpected favorites of 2014 was Checkpoint Champion (Free), as Protostar nailed pretty much every aspect of their game from top to bottom, earning a five-star review from me. The two-person Australian team has been hard at work on their next game, Sling Kong, and it’s looking fun. You’ll be slinging cute little characters from one peg to another, dodging all sorts of hazards. Along the way, you’ll be collecting coins and unlocking a number of additional characters as well. Check out some video footage:
Checkpoint Champion was fun in large part because Protostar nailed the feel of the game, and I can already see a lot of the little touches, like feedback when characters are being slung, that makes me really excited to play this. Making a game that just feels satisfying to undergo the physical act of playing is a challenge, but can elevate familiar concepts to very high levels – Crossy Road (Free), anyone? Protostar is hoping to have this one done by August, and it can’t get in my hands soon enough. Check out the forum thread for the game for more.
