Digital-only CCG Solforge (Free) is continuing the Reign of Varna with the release today of Set 5.2: Varna, Immortal King. This release contains four new Legendaries, one each for Uterra, Nekrium, Tempys, and Alloyin. The Uterra Legendary, Everflow Eidolon, allows the player to gain health whenever the card gains health. This ability gives Uterra buffing cards double effect if Everflow is on the board, making you even harder to kill. His body is pretty decent too, which means with a little buff, he’ll be on the board enough to buff your health considerably. Dopplebot, the Alloyin Legendary, is a really fun one and brings a very interesting mechanic to the game: once a turn, Dopplebot can look at the creatures in the opponent’s hand and get all the abilities of a chosen creature for the remainder of the turn. In Level 3, he gets the abilities plus the creatures’ attack that is added to his own. This guy can be a serious game-changer when activated, and I can’t wait to see what crazy turns he can create, especially if he gets his hands on the opponent’s Legendaries.
Dragonwake, which we talked about a few weeks ago, is a Legendary Tempys spell that allows you to search your deck for a Dragon, which is then randomly placed on the board and gets Aggressive (alas, the dragon dies at the end of the turn). Dragonwake can make Dragon decks more consistent because he guarantees you access to your Dragons. Finally, the fanciest card of this set, Varna, Immortal King, is a Forgeborn, which means the card comes in four levels. As the card’s name hints at, when Varna enters the board from your hand, he brings along a random creature that was destroyed this turn – at Level 4 Varna first clears the board and then brings a random creature back to life. This card doesn’t excite me much until it gets to Level 4 because the board-clearing ability combined with his 18-30 stats and the creature he’ll bring along will really swing the game.
Dragonwake and Varna come as rewards to two new campaign missions – unlockable with both gold and silver – and all of the Legendary cards are included in two preconstructed decks that can be bought in the store. Stoneblade is continuing to release great cards for Solforge that are only making the game better. I can’t wait for the upcoming UI update that will hopefully match the game’s UI to its great card quality.
