Back in September, Square Enix released Dragon Quest 3 ($9.99) on the Japanese App Store, and now the game has been released worldwide in English for people outside of the game’s home country to play. They got the spelling right on this one, too – no DARGON QUEST shenanigans this time. While there’s kind of a wonky release order – we got the fourth game before we got the first three – at least the collection is starting to fill out for fans of the series. Like other ports in the games, this has been optimized for portrait mode play. As originally reported by our Shaun Musgrave, the graphics are based on the Super Famicom (Super NES in the US) remake, and not the Famicom original, and the music is symphonic remakes.
This one costs a bit more than the original 2 games at launch, but does boast some better production values and is a bigger game than the original 2, though it’s still cheaper than later entries in the series. Still, most of this classic RPG series is on iOS in some form for relatively cheap considering the length of the games, and they’re not just straight-up ports, they’re actually optimized for mobile.
