Ah, Minesweeper, the game that is only second to Solitaire in terms of ruined productivity among Windows users. Now, Latis Global and Wipsoft are going to try and take this classic game and make it multiplayer with Spirit Sweeper, coming this week. The objective is a bit different than traditional Minesweeper, as the goal is to actually try and uncover the ‘mines’, as they are actually spirit stones, which must be colleccted in order to win. Finding a stone continues the turn, making strategic runs possible. The first player to uncover 10 stones wins. This video of the tutorial should help explain how it works.
It’ll be possible to take on computer opponents as well as other real-world opponents online in real-time games.. There will be special abilities from the eight playable characters available to try and get the upper hand as well. This all sounds like a curious enough mix that might just be worth trying. The game is planned to release soon – the 11th has been mentioned as the Android date, but the game hasn’t yet been submitted for iOS, so it might not be for a little while longer still. I just need to make sure my Minesweeper-addicted friend of mine doesn’t find out about this game, because he will probably just ruin my life by dominating me at this game endlessly.
