Another wild week of iOS game reviews this week, and the games that scored the highest were both titles that were highly anticipated by our community since we first caught wind of them. The Mikey games are a staple around here, especially since they were created on the TouchArcade forums. Somewhat similarly, Alone is something I’ve had my eye on since we first posted the trailer. There was a bunch of other stuff we reviewed this week, so be sure to check the other scores at the bottom of this post.
Here’s the best games we reviewed this week:
5 Stars
Mikey Boots, $1.99 [Review] – The Mikey trilogy has had us running, swinging, and now flying around with rocket boots to compete against increasingly insane online leaderboards for the best speed runs. If you’ve played a Mikey game you know what to expect here, but each new mechanic seems to totally reinvigorate the game. Be sure to check out the disguises, and try your best to make your craziest Mikey.
4.5 Stars
ALONE..., $0.99 [Review] – It’s late 2014, and I feel like every possible iteration of the endless (fill in the blank here) has been done before, but Alone manages to make things feel fresh again. It’s super fast paced, but is oddly forgiving thanks to a rechargeable shield your ship gains. The art and sound design are cool, and the crazy handling of your ship will take some time to master, but once you do, the game really opens up in regards to how far you can go without crashing. If you ever wished Canabalt was in space, give this game a look.
