Wind-Up Knight 2 (Free) creators Robot Invader have been doing some experiments after that game’s release, making some smaller games, mostly on Android, with Cybergon and Tapthello over on Android. But a new small game is making its way to iOS soon: Dungeon Slots.
Essentially, the goal is to crawl dungeons and fight enemies, with the combat all taking place in slot machine battles. You spend coins to pull the lever and spin the reels in each round. You can lock in the reels on each spin, so it’s possible to strategize: are you trying to attack the enemy, so you lock in attack reels, or if you get good results on your first spin, do you try to improve them?
The game was was made in about a month, with prototypes made within a week, and refinements and content having been developed since then.Dungeon Slots will be free-to-play, with a free coins countdown timer. Robot Invader’s Casey Richardson assured me that the system wasn’t going to be aggressive with the monetization. The game’s currently in the hands of Apple, so it’ll hopefully release soon.
While other games have tried to combine the randomness of slots and RPG gameplay before, Robot Invader certainly feels more adept at perhaps making an actual fun game out of this sort of concept versus a pure monetization machine, so this is one worth looking forward to.
