If you even vaguely liken yourself as a Sonic fan, now is the time to open up your virtual wallet and spray some dollars Sega’s way. Sonic (Free), Sonic 2 (Free), and Sonic CD (Free) all not only have received Christian Whitehead’s amazing remastering treatment… But they’re also on sale for a buck. If you’re not familiar with what I’m talking about with the whole “remastering" thing, here’s the highly abridged version of the tale:
A super Sonic fan named Christian Whitehead tossed a video on YouTube in late 2009 showing an incredible remake of Sonic CD. Like when most fan projects get too good, we fully expected the next chapter of the story to be, “Well, Sega just sent me a cease and desist, it’s been fun." Instead, Sega hired him, and he’s pumped out three Sonic ports that are so good, you could make a strong argument that they’re better than the originals.
Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing ($3.99), as well as both Sonic 4 Episode I ($2.99) and Sonic 4 Episode II (Free) are a buck, but the originals are truly where it’s at. Even if you don’t have much intention of playing through all three games, I totally recommend picking up Sonic, Sonic 2, and Sonic CD if for no reason other than to send a three dollar message to Sega that says, “YES PLEASE, MORE OF THIS."
Note: These sales just hit, so it’ll take a bit for the price change to filter through to the TA app and things like that. They’re 99¢ in iTunes, trust me!
