One of the more interesting titles I was able to play at the Glu iPhone Games event is called Magic Life. Imagine the colorful, cartoony world and customization aspects of Animal Crossing; add in heaps of RPG elements, quests, and magical spells; and top it off with a strong social integration and you will start to see what Magic Life is all about. You’ll begin the game as an amateur magician, but can slowly learn new spells as you complete quests and level up your character. New spells have a certain “recipe” and you must find or buy the ingredients while exploring each world, and then combine them in cauldrons in the Guild Hall of whichever town you are in. There will be plenty to do in the single player portion of Magic Life as you evolve your character, get new items and spells, complete quests, and explore multiple environments.
A major aspect to Magic Life is the personalization of your character and living space. There are quite a few different options for body and clothing customization, and many more can be added during the lifetime of the game. You also have a living quarters that can be adorned with various furniture, windows, and other décor to make it personalized to your tastes. Sadly, these rooms aren’t 3D spaces like the rest of the game, and are more single-plane side views of a room. The feng shui factor of placing objects and furniture in Animal Crossing was one of my favorite parts, but the room and character customization in Magic Life still seems really cool.
The social part of Magic Life lets you import your friends from Facebook into the game. Even if they don’t actually play the game, it will import their name and generate an in-game avatar for them, so you can see your buddies roaming around the world as you play. If they do play Magic Life, then it will import the actual character from their game into your own. You can cast a spell on one of them, then they will get a Facebook notification that they have been turned into a toad or whatever the case may be, and will be able to fire up their own game and turn themselves back (and most likely retaliate against you as well). Also, you’ll be able to visit your friends living spaces and check out how they are decorated, and vice versa.
As a huge fan of Animal Crossing on the DS, I really liked what I played of Magic Life as it definitely had a similar feel. The one thing that worries me is that the game did not run very smoothly on the iPod touch unit that I played it on, but there is still plenty of time for optimization before release. The game will be free, with optional IAP for people who wish to progress faster, but it is in no way required or limits the game for those that don’t wish to pay. Keep your eyes out for Magic Life to be launching in early October.

I think that little hole above the apple would kill the acoustics.
Great news re. the Touch. Wondering if it will have an internal mic, instead of having to don the earphones with the mic as with the 3rd gen?
So I'm wondering... If I have an itouch, would I be able to upgrade to the newest version having the apple care insurance
Not sure what that has to do with my query, but in answer to yours.....no.
your interpretation of 'insurance' is curious
Yes, of course there's a MIC! There's a vid camera and facetime. Therefore, MICROPHONE!!!!!!!!
Oh yeah and the exclamation is happiness!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D
Great news and i like the designs, But i have a question: Is there going to be a difference between the 8gb model and the 32gb model for the ipod touch in processing power or other specs?
Apple dissapoints me with the nano and shuffle.
The nano looks disgusting and the shuffle looks like the old version.
The new nano should be the new shuffle.
I like the new touch though.
Yeah. They're alright. They got rid of the video camera on the NANO and no wifi for the nano?! Surely someone can dissect the nano and find a wifi card in there, right? The shuffle isn't that great either. They could've added a little more to it like a radio AT LEAST. I'm satisfied now that there's a camera for the iPod Touch. XD
The Apple TV with Youtube support sounds half decent.... It's the paying 99 cents for every movie you stream thing that's kinda iffy. But the $99 pricetag isnt bad.
That's why everyone will use Netflix. :)
Geez, its $99 and £99 wtf...
No, I don't think it will be that expensive in Euros.
Either Jobs has no musical taste, or he wants to give that impression. As always, Apple Likes what they can sell. Coldplay is about as generic as you get; Martin himself can barely end any song he's written, but at least has the decency to right call his second live song "a pile of something terrible" just as the same thoughts are creeping in just as the first bit of piano strumming gives it away.
F$*@ you. You're just a Coldplay hater. That's only your opinion. So F#$k off. Some people like ColdPlay.
I don't hate anybody. They were just a lousy and obvious choice for an Apple keynote event.
Please be quiet. Don't be a hater. Coldplay is a great band and the fact that you have to diss the band on a site about iOS gaming is pretty sad!
Coldplay rocks! they were a great choice. You just dont like them.
I loved the new iOS based iPod Nano. If I was still in the market for a stand alone MP3 player I'd be rushing out to the nearest Best Buy the second they were in stock. That thing looks small enough that you could potentially be clipped to a wrist band to be used as a watch. The Apple TV was a massive letdown though, they took their worst product stripped it bare and added netflix support. My parents own one strictly due to the iPhone remote app but they don't have an always on computer and require the analog outputs to hook it into their stereo system so this new model would be useless to them.
Maybe the most important thing here is that the iPod touch finally has a camera meaning it really is "an iPhone without the phone" now.
Were you watching the keynote. Steve said that one of the guys is going to get a wrist band and strap the nano to his wrist. :)
I was watching it on the iPad and it kept jumping back to the start and flickering. I missed most of the iPod Nano stuff because I thought it was a server side issue.
None of the reports I've read so far mentions whether the new iPod touch's rear camera takes pictures or not. I really hope it does, that's exactly what I've been waiting for. If it doesn't, well... I still want me a new iPod!
new ipod touch is epic failure again suck. Also doesn't mention 256MB memory like iPad or 512MB like new iphone4. I'm guessing 256MB otherwise they'd mention it.
front camera VGA photo 640x480 = 0.3 megapixel
back camera 960 x 720 photo = 0.7 megapixel
yea think I'll pick up a real camera with 27x optical zoom for like $150 to $200 instead that has replaceable storage. Sticking with my iPad sucks though have to wait till November for ios 4.2 though.
oh, I hadn't realised that. So no 5 megapixel camera like the iPhone 4? 0.7 megapixels sounds pretty lame. The most basic phones from companies like Nokia etc have at the very very least a 2 megapixel camera these days.
That is such malarky! Half of the sales pitch of the iPad was all of the great features you'll be able to experience once OS 4 was released in June...and only at the last minute do they drop..oh, this OS 4 will not include the iPad system...sorry about that. ;-(
I'm sure it's 512MB like the iPhone 4.
*YAWN*
The next cool Gadget IMO is going to be the PSP/Droid phone. If it comes out in October bye bye to my iphone 4
Get real. If it comes out in October - or even next October - I'll buy you a house to play with it in.
And I'll buy you an island to put your house on
Now I'm in a bind... I was all prepared to upgrade my ipod touch and got really excited when I found out it was going to have cameras, a better display, etc... and then I found out that the largest capacity is STILL 64GB. C'mon! I'd rather have an ipod touch the same size as the current one, if it meant I could get more capacity. No need to slim things down so much that they become tedious to handle, eh?
I would like to point out that the reason it probably outsells either of the *gaming* platforms is the fact that it is a phone. With multimedia features.
I certainly didn't buy the iPhone simply to buy games on. I don't know about anyone else, but..
No, the iPod touch is what is said to outsell the ds and psp, not the iPhone.
Owning an jailbroken iPhone 4, I could care less about iOS 4.1 or the iPod Touch changes right now, but what really excited me was the news that the iPad will be able to stream (presumably DRM'd) iTunes content in iOS 4.2. If it does work with iTunes purchased video content it will completely sell me on buying HD TV shows from them. I was pretty disappointed to find out there was no way beyond copying the GB sized files over manually to watch them, but this would, in the words of good old Steve, "change everything".
Bringing Chris out to do a new song made my day. On the topic of gaming, anyone realize how the Game Center demo accidentally revealed Dungeon Hunter 2? See the eleven minute mark.
I'm glad they made the iPod Touch even thinner so that they could attach a still camera unworthy of a Samsung flip-phone.
What I want to know is if/when Skype is going to be able to use the front and back cameras for video calling. FaceTime looks cute but without the ability to call anything but another iPod Touch or an iPhone it's 100% useless for my purposes.
Exactly my thought. Besides, without mobile internet option video chat sucks, being too few WiFi hotspots in my country to be useful. Snazzy graphics display is ok with me, but with that toy camera they completely lost me...
I think that the new iPod Nano is much worse than the previous one.
1. What's the point of a multitouch screen if you can only fit one finger on it to begin with?
2. I can't think of one logical reason why they would take away video playing and recording.
3. The interface looks so darn cramped! You can only fit four icons on the screen, which last time I checked, results in much more flipping around to find what you want.
4. What's the difference between it and the iPod shuffle now except for the fact that the shuffle contains BUTTONS so that you can change the song in you pocket?
Im satisfied with my touch 3g. will wait for nintendo 3ds.
$399 for a 64GB music player...they've gone crazy.
Well, I think that I would be a little more excited if they had put the camera on the LAST YEARS Ipod Touch 3g model, like we all thought they were going to do.
And now this comes out, with an upgraded display. But a camera that is barley on par with older flip phones? Why do they do this? The front camera I can see to keep it simple. But the back camera? Come on. Throw in at LEAST a 2 or 3 MP camera. How embarrassing.
Like I said, last year, these specs would have really been something. But with all the different Multi-Media smartphones that have come out. These specs are kind of on the blaaaahhh... side.
And the price? Needs to be more competitive.
And they say the Ipod Touch's sell more than Sony and Nintendo. Sony, I can believe as the PSP Go is a joke. But Nintendo? Come on, give me a break. Nintendo sells a sh*tload of DS's for a WAY cheaper of a price. If it's a choice between my 7 year old getting a DS or an Itouch. I'm thinking for durability and COST wise. The DS will be the way to go.
But there are people that will eat up Apples quotes as gospel and will love what they put out, no matter what it is.
Don't get me wrong, I like my 3rd Gen Itouch. But with the sub-par camera specs of the Newer 4th Gen. It looks like I will be holding out for the 5th or 6th Gen. before I upgrade......but to each their own I suppose....
;
If I preorder an iPod touch 4g from amazon, wil it arrive when the iPod touch is released in stores? And when will it be released in stores?
