Upcoming Games

From the Floor: Freeverse Gameplay Videos

As promised yesterday, we’ve posted a few rough gameplay video clips taken from the noisy Macworld expo floor of the upcoming iPhone titles that Freeverse is displaying.

Slotz Racer

Days of Thunder

Flick Sports Baseball

Not on display at the Freeverse booth is a fourth game that’s currently in the works, a futuristic RPG / trading game set in a post-apocalyptic United States, 15 years in the future. In Roads of Ruin, the player is a motorcycle courier that delivers goods amongst the various, warring regions into which the US has crumbled.  Freeverse tells us that, of their four upcoming titles, Roads of Ruin is the furthest out from App Store release and should be available several months from now.

I was really hoping you have footage of the baseball one, since I'll be buying that for sure

  2. Finch

bummer, I'm really interested in that 4th game.

  3. arn

I played slotz racer briefly. thought it was really fun.

I agree with Arn. Slotz Racer is a great play. I can see myself spending lots of short game sessions with that on the morning commute.

Slotz Racer looks pretty cool, but I'm disappointed in the lack of loops, banked turns and other cool elements of slot track racing. Personally that was my favorite part about playing with the actual toys, the exciting loops and such. Hopefully they will be included but not shown yet, or in an update at least. Days of Thunder looks pretty good, the physics and car explosions are amazing. Flick Baseball also looks awesome, I'm sure the controls will be spot on.

Thanks for the heads up Blake and Arn, Wish we could be there with ya, I am stoked about slotz racer, Looks shweet! Did you get a chance to try the level editor???

days of thunder look pretty smooth..

I love sports games from Flick, got hooked on their fishing game and their bowling is fun too although not nearly as replayable.

Just curious for Slotz Racer, to run the slot car you just tap to move and release to slow? If so, I suggest that freeverse make a slider so you can control the constant speed. I remember slot racing quite well. Speed is a huge part of the strategy for making the corners. If you completely let go of the trigger I believe the racer would stop completely.

Days of Thunder honestly looks great. Can't wait to hear more about this title.

days of thunder remind me the SEGA daytona USA..

I'm liking the zip ties that are holding the iPhone to the stand. Its really, creative. No hard, and covering case or something. Zip ties.

    Yellow and black uniforms? Seriously?

  13. SalsaMD

    @ Galley

See forum on Flick Baseball. You have extensive uniform customization.

"Roads of Ruin" starring Kevin Costner. Not content with just playing a postman in a post-apocalyptic United States, Costner returns as a motorcycling merchant.

hehe just kidding, but "The Postman" was the first thing I thought of when I read the description for "Roads of Ruin"

  15. Zadillo

David, the first thing I thought of when I read it was AutoDuel/Car Wars (except you're on a motorcycle I guess). Especially since Car Wars was also heavily focused on things like courier missions, etc. Have to imagine it's at least on the minds of the people creating "Roads of Ruin". I hope it is though, something in that vein would be awesome.

    That game seems darn colorful!

  17. Marc

so how do wii/iphone graphics stack up? that video's pretty shiny! will the iphone version be able to give that "look"?

  18. arn

the screenshots appear to be iPhone screens.

  19. Two Tribes

Apart from the photoshopped finger, I can confirm that these are indeed screenshots taken from the actual device.

    Cheers,

    Martijn

  20. Vende

I like it. Hopefully it'll be relatively inexpensive like Bounce On (such a great game btw)

  21. Two Tribes

Aren't most games relatively inexpensive on the AppStore? ;-) So what would be a fair pricing for a game like this (a game that keeps you busy for 10+ hours )?

  22. lopches

this game looks cute. think im gonna get it when its out haha

  23. Luke

    Two Tribes,

  24. Luke

    oops. continued:

A fair price for a game like this is $5-6. Obviously, the less you charge, the more you will sell, but you need to spend some time researching games similar to yours and their price points and their relative success.

Looks awesome, I'll buy first day!

  25. spiffyone

    @ Two Tribes,

    I'd say a fair price for a 10 hr. + game on this platform is $4.99 - 7.99.

Bobby Carrot is $7.99. Hero of Sparta and Brothers in Arms were both $9.99, but dropped down to $5.99 (business-wise, I would say too soon as they never even tried $7.99), as did Rolando. Archibald's Adventures went from $7.99 to $4.99.

It also depends on what you are going to do with updates to the game. If the updates are only going to be bug fixes and the like, then the lower end of the spectrum is the best bet. If, however, there will be major updates like, say, additional levels and such for free, then the higher end of the spectrum would serve well.

I think, tbqh, something along the lines of $5.99 or $6.99 would be a good price point.

  26. PoV

I was always in awe of the original (easily one of the best looking Gameboy Color games). It's great to see they're still around and so is their game. :)

  27. Jayminer

I absolutely adore the Wiiware version and think it's one of the best games for the Wii, including full-priced games. I hope there are some new levels exclusive to the iPhone-version? Anyway, wonderful news. I will definitely buy the iPhone-game, if not only to support the developer!

    Wonderful news!

  28. Two Tribes

Thanks guys for all the helpful answers. Got another question for you ;-)

We've seen quite a lot of titles that start with a lower introduction price and later on they raise the price. On the other hand, some do the exact opposite: start with the normal price and reduce it later on. What would be a good strategy here?

Also we're thinking of releasing a lite version that people can download for free to get acquainted with the game and its character.

  29. Steve Sabol

Two Tribes: Definitely release a lite version at some point, I personally (and I'm nobody but an armchair quarterback) would couple the Lite with a price cut or "sale".

Watch Dan Gilbert's talk on TED.com where he talks about pricing. If you start out at $10 and then drop to 8, people perceive they got a 10 dollar app for 8 bucks which equals a good deal. If you start at 8 and then jump to 10, then they perceive they just overpaid on an 8 dollar app.

Also, just an FYI... When I saw this on the Wii I immediately looked if there was an iPhone version and was saddened that it wasn't available. I am PUMPED to get the iPhone version.

  30. Abi van Tamelen

    Cool!
I still sometimes play the very, very 1st released edition of this game: Eggbert for the MSX system!
I still remember i made some levels with the level editor.
Hope this will be a great hit for the iPhone as it was for the MSX!
    Greetinx to Collin ;).

Thumbs up for the Two Tribes team!

  31. Patriek Lesparre

    Indeed Abi!
Way to forget your heritage :/

Would be nice if ex-MSXers would give it some credit some time, in stead of forgetting it like the rest of the world.

Just because MSX computers weren't released in the United States, doesn't mean MSX didn't have a HUGE impact on the history of computing.

I for one am proud that like many other great inventions, Toki Tori/Eggbert originated on the MSX platform!

  32. Two Tribes

@Steve: Thanks for the info! We're planning on releasing the Lite version alongside the full version. Are you saying it's probably smarter to wait with the Lite version until we do a pricecut? The idea behind the Lite version for us would be to get the name Toki Tori out there, so people will pick it up and say "hey this is a great game, let's buy it" ;-) Since the name Toki Tori doesn't really ring any bells, we feel we need to release the Lite version alongside the full version. But hey, it's our first iPhone game as well ;-)

    Thanks again!

  33. dixie

I am waiting for this game too release does anyone know when that will be. They keep talking but i have not seen it in the app store
