Sorry to say this but you can't play the iPhone version on iPad :S, Square Enix blocked the iPhone version from the iPad

  2. Yeah, don't have it yet, definite interest since I read close to 40 pages of this thread and also videos. But it does bug me a bit that it isn't universal, but moreso that they locked the iphone version from playing on my ipad. Also, the filesize is pretty big without icloud saves.

Anyway, not really buying games too much in the first 2 months anymore due to early adopter burnout, just doing more window shopping. Have to say, I love the music and the cutscenes, Square always does that really well.

Game looks cool though, hope you all like it!

Edit: shero, how do they block you? Does a message come up that says you can't play on the ipad?

I highly doubt it even when the next generation iPod comes out it will probably be the only iPod that will support this game

iTunes won't let you download it to your iPad because it "requires a flash".

May I please go to ****ing bed now? It's 1:40 am here now, I have to be up early and "oh, just a couple of minutes" turned into an entire "Day" (in-game) of TWEWY.

Before I answer that question with one of the most decisive yes-es I've ever given to a price versus worth analysis, I will preface by saying that I am usually definitively not adverse to going quite high above the usual App Store price point, and this, of course, influences my definition of the worth of an iOS game.

Now, that said: YES! :) Perhaps especially so if Chaos Rings disappointed you, or if you've grown tired in general of the now formulaic FF experience.

I believe it might be one of the best buys for this platform so far, right up there in dollar to fun ratio contentment with (or even above) Ravenmark, Starbase Orion, Street Fighter IV Volt, Mage Gauntlet, Dangerous, Final Fantasy Tactics, AC: Recollection, Playdek's offerings, Wild Frontier, Puzzle Quest, KoDP, Carcassonne, MC3, iBlast Moki 1 & 2, Bug Heroes, Air Mail, and many of my other favourites for the platform.

In many ways, TWEWY is much closer to action-RPG hybrids such as Square's own Secret of Mana and Bastion (to leap quickly and erratically across the chasm of history :) ) than most of Squeenix's classic titles. But with the depth commonly associated with RPGs. For someone who quickly grows tired of turn-based combat engines that offer less sophistication than complex TBS games such as FFT and Ravenmark, TWEWY is a very welcome hybridization, and a perhaps near-perfect mesh of skill- and twitch-based combat and extensive roleplaying, character/equipment development and adventuring.

You'd be surprised. We might not be legion, but our numbers might even be growing ;)

Oh, yes. Oh. Yes. This might be one of the deeper and more sophisticated gaming experiences for iOS (might, mind you, as I base this the parts of the game I've seen so far, and the word of others). Perhaps not on a par with Dangerous, FFT, King of Dragon Pass or Starbase Orion (in as far as any of these titles are comparable), but the heavy emphasis on story, the improvable pin system, the style/clothing bonus system, plus many other innovative mechanics, a clever new game plus mechanic, all topped off by a very skill-based combat engine that while, as Haruhi describes, is not quite as frenetic and confusingly but interestingly chaotic as in the DS original, is still a rather deep and both tactical and twitch-heavy (based on precision and reflexes), all add up to a game that will last for many, many hours, take perhaps even more to master, and will provide ample of variation along the way.

Ah, so with the (notable) exception of the dual character combat mechanics, and the addition of the substitutional partner attack, even the actual battle mechanics are much the same in the iOS version?

In the end, compulsive comparisons aside ;) , it matters little, as the game clearly (even to my TWEWY-untrained eye) is a competent, complete (not to mention wonderful) experience. I must say, with the exception of the occasional hassle of moving Neku, I enjoy the combat quite a lot, and I usually place very high demands on variation, depth and skill requirements of a combat engine.

And for some, it would seem, the single character focus of the battles seems to even have improved the experience, hopefully not only for matters of simplification.

Umm, how do you get your partner to attack exactly? I thought it was a tap on her "pin" but I can't get it to trigger.

As someone who truly could not get into the rub your head/pat your belly nature of the combat in the DS version, TWEWY on iOS is a revelation. And yes, I know that you could change the default setting and make your partner AI controlled, but that always felt like playing the game in a way that was not intended. On iOS I feel like I'm playing the way the game was meant to be played on this platform. And, unlike with the DS version, the more battles I fight the better I'm getting at it. I can't think of a more frustrating experience than playing a game and not being able to improve.

In any event, let me heartily agree with you on your price/value assessment of the game. Also, I'm with you about playing on the smaller screen: given the option between an iPhone and an iPad version, I will go with the iPhone every time. Something about the intimacy of the format, or the fact that the phone is always with me. Whatever the reason, you can add me to the list.

Tap on the enemy, not her pin.

It's funny - I liked this game on DS, but I have no recollection at all about having to control both your character and your partner. I assume I put it on AI control early on.

It depends on the game for me. This one, I got for iPhone, but some I prefer on iPad - mainly if things would look too small on the iPhone or less of the map would fit on screen on iPhone I get it for iPad, otherwise I'd get it for iPhone.

That makes sense (about the larger screen). I'm not saying that my preference for the smaller screen is rational. I've been playing on handhelds since the GameGear (for some reason I never got into the Gameboy), and I guess I've always had a soft spot for a cool device that I can hold comfortably in my hands.

Looks like everyone is having a blast with this game. I'm depressed now. I see this everywhere with great reviews and the gameplay looks amazing, yet I can't play it 'cause I only have an iPod Touch 4G. It's a sad day to be an iTouch owner. I need to quickly find another game that can compensate for the emptiness that resides as of right now.

Puzzle Craft? It's amazing. The IAP is not needed at all, so don't let that scare you off.

The trading seems to be in the game - but it seems you actually need to have someone on the same network (I'm guessing it's just using WiFi since it doesn't ask for me to activate BT), in order to start a trade. I'm not even sure you get mingling points at all, since I have no one to try this with...pretty depressing this....I was hoping for some game center integration - finding friends through it, and sharing data should not be that hard, they could take advantage of the turn-based system to send the shop data.

Anyways, I can't test the trading system, nor the Tin Pin Slammer (which could've also used some Game Center love...).

Points earned from closing the game are in, though.
This is the only weak spot I found with the game, the lack of trading/tin pin slam through gamecenter (or any other service, as long as I don't actually require to be on the same network as the other player...).

The rest of the game is awesome! ;)

Someone mentioned in the comments to the latest front page TWEWY story that the iPhone version prevents running on iPad by checking for the camera flash.

That at least used to be against Apple's Dev License.

    http://www.scribd.com/doc/57624048/iOS-Developer-Program-License-Agreement-2011-06-06

That's a 2011 license, but I bet that language is still in the current one. Apple has an overriding interest in making sure that your iPhone purchases move forward to iPad. I don't have a current license agreement, but bet some of the devs here do and can confirm.
