Thought so since I couldn't get it to work, but couldn't remember. Our girls are ready to leave for Elfheim!
I started using the same party I did last time I played (warrior, monk, black mage, white mage) and then decided it would be too easy since I had done that before. So I started over with four white mages. Still at the beginning (just started over), but so far so mediocre. The lack of damage thing kinda sucks, but they will become decent soon enough.
Does anyone know how the Monk's armor/weapon bonuses work? I read in Shaun's original write up that they get a bonus for not wearing armor, but can I equip them with gloves, a helmet, or a shield without interfering with their class bonuses? So far they are steamrolling through the game. Just took down Astos without difficulty, but I know things are bound to get ore difficult so it would be great to know how to prepare. Thanks all! Happy Playing!
Yes I was wondering the same. While I am not posting my current experiences with this game I am with you all in spirit and following this thread constantly. I simply will take longer than a month to play it. Too much other stuff getting in the way.
I'm not using a monk this time so I can't test this but, if I remember correctly, when fighting barehanded his attack is twice his level and when wearing no armor his defense is equal to his level. As far as I know, he can't wear any armor, shield, shoes, etc. to get the bonus. Edit: Also, I think he gets twice the number of hits when unarmed.
Nope. I remember figuring this out when I was a kid. I had the coolest aunt in the world because she played video games. She had all the best games so I would walk to her house all the time. I remember just watching her play Final Fantasy and she was complaining that her Black Belt (NES version of Monk) was doing less damage with every level up. I suggested that she take his weapon off because Black Belts fight with their hands. Suddenly he was doing more damage than the Warrior. I was so proud that I helped an adult figure something out. I've been hooked on RPG's ever since.
I do have a monk and I was wondering the same couldn't quite remember and so I'm about to unarm him see what happens
The monk is my favourite character of the six. I was disappointed not to roll one in my party. I need to evolve my two thieves pronto - they are truly mediocre as they are. My first experience with FF1 was actually on a 3GS when it released. I worked out the monk being better unarmed and unarmoured from playing Bard's Tale in the 1980s. Been my favourite melee class since then.
Day 3: Early in the morning my party went shopping: chainmail and rapiers for the Warrior and the Red Mage, a nunchaku and leather for the Monk. The White Mage did learn three white spells (Protect, Cure, Blink), the Red Mage three black (Fire, Sleep, Thunder). Now, the Princess is safely back at her father's castle. In the process I became familiar with the fighting controls. Even my old friend the alien mothership doesn't scare me anymore. Now, when moving, the party more often than not ends up where it intended to go. All members of the party have reached level 7. Two and a half hours game time have passed. Tomorrow I intend to try that bridge that the King's army of little Bob--the--Builders completed. What riles me a little bit is that there are things still hidden from me. The two chambers on the right hand side of the Chaos Shrine are still locked with no key to be found. Neither was I able to spelunk past the caved in part in the Earthgift Shrine. At this stage I am not quite sure what kind of game this is: The sort of game where one clears everything before moving on or the other sort, where one tries to remember everything in order to comes back with more knowledge later in the game? Anybody else met the suspicious looking guy (see image) who wouldn't even say a single word in the town? Notable quote of the Day: "Kee kee"
So amazing to read it through the eyes of someone not familiar with rpg's! I have a tip for you. Write down. For example someone tell you a bit of tip usually something on the lines of : "there's a cave down east where ..." Or "they say ... Can heal ..." That's not just random lines and I have no chance of remembering everything. So I write down everything that might be something and zi cross them out as I go. Places locked to you now will require something you get later. Yes, there will be backtracking
Monks and Weapons and Armor ... oh my! I did more research and found a bit more about monks. From about lvl 10 onward monks can unequip all their weapon and armor and they will fair ok to great in most fights. This saves you from having to spend $ on outfitting them and you can focus on other party members. If you are really looking for the nitty gritty info, I found this post about how each equipment slot breaks down for the monk and master. Essentially, keep your monks naked from 10 onwards for best results. When they are barehanded they gain multiple hits bases off their stats. For me, that's awesome because I have a team of 4 monks and at level 17 each one will hit 6 times for around 24 damage a pop which means I'm hitting for about 140ish damage each attack or 160-175 if they crit.
Very timely question! lol http://toucharcade.com/2017/01/09/rpg-reload-play-along-final-fantasy-going-strong/
Definitely join in! So for the update on my party of adventerous girls: I certainly miss a monk or warrior, but they're doing pretty well. The thief is mediocre like they are in the beginning, but I know from last year she will be crazy useful later on. Today we ventured into Marsh Cave and we got pretty far until I wiped them. Yeah.. Can't even blame them, I just forgot to heal them and got too into the fighting part. I spent some time around Elfheim too, I wanted to get a magic all spell for both mages. I think we're taking another trip back to Elfheim to stock up now and then we're heading back to take down that cave.
My monk now does about 70-80 more damage since taking away his weapon and leaving him only fists 7 hours 11 mins in and all characters level 20 And he's hitting about 30-40 more than my warrior
Wow, I wish lol. You can trade him with my thief lol. I'm three hours in, although I haven't played that fast. You often post messages, how do you do it? I get a sort of error every time. Can't comment on articles either any more.
