Not coming out on iPhone until sometime in the "next lunar cycle"? Screw it, I'm out. At least not getting it at launch like I have been planning to do for an f'n year. Working on it for over a year and don't even make it a universal app with and single release.
I heard in the trailer that the narrator mention this, "We'll meet again when the night and day are in balance" I guess the release date is going to be around june 21 which is the summer solstice (i.e. daylight = 12 hours and night = 12 hrs)?
Cmon... they are only human! small team, probably not so much money, and still they probably spend almost all time they humanly can on this game. When they first showed the game one year ago, they had nothing, just what they showed. So give them a break. We should just be happy that there is actually some developers still left in this world, that actually care more about releasing a fantasic game, then releasing a half-done game, that most developers seem to do these days.. They aren't waiting so long for the release it because they love to piss you of. They do it because they want the game to be perfect. And sense people complain so fu'king much, they just say: "hay, lets at least release it as soon as possible for one if the "I" devices. Instead of waiting with both devices. So shut your pie-hole! if you don't want the game, then don't buy it. But no one wants to listen to your idiotic barking. What "you" people don't understand is that the game you where longing for so much, just takes this much time to make. Anything that is released before, wont be "that" game, that you want to play, and will just disappoint you. Id rather wait 10 years for one really really good game. Then play a new crappy game every month. ("CRAPPY", not "capy" haha ^^) LONG LIVE THE SUPERBROTHERS!
OMG I really love the teaser! im really in love with the music, it does it all! you should give th sound guy like 80% of the revenue, haha (joke, joke ^^). right after they say "We'll meet again when the night and day are in balance" some really nice parts of the music kicks in and gives me an adrenaline rush and goosebumps! Would love to have the music even though I can't play the game until it is out for iphone And I really love HOW thay say "We'll meet again when the night and day are in balance". its just perfect. These guys aren't getting enough praise for the teaser haha ^^ They could possible offer the music like "pay what you want" on there homepage. if its as good as I hope it is, i'll pay the same amount as the game costs. People who do what they love and do it really good should get paid for there work.
Oh grow a pair, it's disappointing whether you like it or not. Superbrothers aren't the second coming of Christ, they may have made a great game here but you don't need to stick up for them. Releasing both at the same time or together in a universal app would have been a better move, there's no real denying that. So some people are a little upset at having to wait, why do you care?
I'm right there with you, this game has been pretty much finished for a year now, and you think they would release it universal, I don't own an iPad and I'm not going to buy this game if it's released in June or so. I won't support them if they make us wait another 4 months for the iPhone version.
I care sense I don't some few people who are shouting the loudest make the people at Superbrothers release the game before they them self, think its ready. And its not disappointing. Though It would be if the released a half finished game. And actually they probably are a little related to Christ. How else could they make such a game? And the music!! My good.. love it! Sense some people complain as hell, I don't see why I can't defend/stick up for the Superbrothers. It is probably true that It would be better releasing the ipad an iphone game at the same time. But you cant both the cake and eat it. The same people complain that its taking to long for the game to get out. So when Superbrothers decides to listen and rush out one of the versions. Then they complain about that instead. They don't realise that Its the complaining that has caused the split release. I'd also like to see the game released at the same time. But I would email Superbrothers and say that. or try to give constructive critique about it. Not bitch about it. If they would release them at the same time they would have to do it the month that the Iphone release is scheduled. Not at the Equinox. people probably don't realise that. I understand its frustrating to wait for it. I think that to. But this is a game, it takes time. You cant get everything you want exactly when you want it. Even though some people seem to think that.
If you read this: http://toucharcade.com/2011/02/28/gdc-2011-the-dirty-secret-of-superbrothers-sword-sworcery-ep/ or wach this (and listen, to what they say): http://www.gamercamp.ca/gamercamp-ke...-sworcery-team Then you would know that it wasn't "pretty much finished for a year". You see, what they showed a year ago was all they had. They just showed it to see if they would get positive critique. And they did, a lot of it. SO, they decided to make it. And have spent a year making a game.
The game has not been finished for a year. This was confirmed in the article on the front page of touch arcade. And also in the earlier posts in this thread. It's a little unfair to publically criticize them with incorrect information. iPad owners regularly wait longer for games, so I can assure you from personal experience that the wait, however frustrating, wont actually kill you. The devs released an awesome trailer which acknowledges and apologizes for the delays...and they've given us dates for their eta. They have finally communicated with us about their progress. Isn't that enough? Here it comes..... Yay!
Reread my post, I said it is vapor and I hope I'm wrong. Game still hasn't been released so don't drop your panties yet.
I'd have to say your first few comments are pretty much invalid. Battleheart was made by a three man team also and was universal out of the gate. Try again. Plus why do I have to align the cryptic messages in the trailer with movements of the sun and moon? Really? After a year I now don't even get a straight release date? And I am not the type of person that is so prideful that I won't admit when I'm wrong, but I'll believe S&S is done when it's up on the app store. Also @Erik, I'm not living in any delusion lol just stating that there isn't one fact about this game that should garner hype, I mean seriously didn't this win something something game of the year (can't remember the name of the convention)? How insulting is that, and then now to admit that it wasn't finished at that time, kind of sad to rob the title from another dev team. Lastly @Foehammer it's spelled Since, SINCE, not sense. Sorry but that one word made reading your posts very tiring.
I'm from Sweden, my first language is Swedish. And I have Dyslexia. But I think i'm doing okay. I try to improve my spelling everyday. You really could have said that more gracefully. And you don't have to read anything. Your free to stop at any time, your highness. And what, are you stupid? I love that they say "We'll meet again when the night and day are in balance" Its so obvious. it's not cryptic.. maybe for a 5 year old. And they even wrote "when??????? At the Equinox!" In the end. Even though I think its ruined it. Obviously some people need it.. And you cant compare games. Sense they are so few making the games, unexpected things that happen can really make delay the game. Like a death in the family, or whatever. Or that only one of them can program, or make the sound (like with Superbrothers). Or that superbrothers arnt as used to making games. So you cant compare them. And I do believe you are "the type of person that is so prideful that I won't admit when your wrong,"
Gonna fight it to the last, huh? All right man, fair enough. But, come on, you know you are just as stoked as everyone else for its imminent release. I don't think you would be here otherwise. As for the IGF award, yes, S:S&S EP won the Achievement In Art. At the time it was entered, the rules were different. Prototypes were accepted for entry. The rules have now changed and now an entry does need to be playable. Still, I will say it again, S:S&S EP deserved its win that year. Craig has some serious artistic vision. I admit, the exterior mechanics of Braid didn't really propel the industry forward, and in fact, started to frustrate me toward the end of the game. But that mechanic in conjunction with what was going on at a deeper level and the way it engaged the player intellectually, that was magic and seldom happens in games. Most of the game industry just cranks out this steady stream of prepackaged crap that we have all played hundreds of times before. Once in a while someone needs to push the limits of how games are perceived. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good dose of button mashing now and then, but I wish it wasn't the mainstay of what is produced. Looks like there is some faulty information floating around the forum. The game has not been done for a year. My quoting of Eli's "final version" comment I made earlier was merely to accentuate that the game sounds like it is truly (or very nearly) done. It started as a highly polished prototype. Then the team started watching others reactions to said prototype and added things as they went, based on those reactions, over the course of the last year. A bit deceptive? Yes. But no reason to get upset. If you really think about it, it is the way a lot of games should be made. It really feels like S:S&S EP is trying desperately to break a lot of gaming molds, and this is a very good thing both for players and for the industry.
Are you guys seriously arguing about this? Here's the facts: 1. The game is finished. 2. We'll have a preview next week. 3. The iPhone version of the game runs great on latest gen devices. 4. Among other things, what Superbrothers is doing is making sure the game runs good on older devices. 5. They've said this optimization is going to take around a month. I mean I suppose rock out with your bad self if you want to have a tantrum over this but the fact of the matter is the reason they're releasing the iPad version first is because it's finished. Would you people be less pissed if they held the iPad release another month to release along side an iPhone version even though the iPad game is ready to launch? I seriously just don't get this weird entitlement complex.
Because Superbrothers realizes their release date is entirely dependent on Apple's approval process. They're giving a vague date range because the game could either be approved in 3 days or 3 weeks. Any iPhone developer who gives you a solid release date is bullshitting with their fingers crossed that Apple approves their game by then.
They should release the game for both systems now and later add support for older devices trough updates
While that may benefit you, (I'll admit that that would benefit me as well ) I think it's smarter to be available for everyone to play right out of the box (figuratively speaking). This way, the devs. won't get bunches of stupid 1 star reviews from people that can't read and bought the game anyways, despite warnings.
