I do think it's fair to say that the interface they chose doesn't work well on a small device. Personally I think they could have designed a better selection method than having to tap on the left or the right of a teeny tiny icon.
Sure, but he actually said "The game's other flaws are mainly due to the decision to make it a Universal". UI flaws would be there whether the game is universal or not. So it has nothing to do with making it universal - it's simply because Playdek didn't polish the UI for the smaller screen well enough (though personally I think it's not that bad - not as good as ipad, but still very playable).
No, I disagree. if they had made it iPad-only then the problem wouldn't really exist at all. It's entirely a function of trying to support a small screen with an interface technique not very suitable for the small screen.
Well, ok, yes, if they hadn't tried to bring it to the small screens the problem wouldn't exist. I was talking about universal vs. two separate versions. The issue still isn't about it being universal - it's about it being on the smaller screen. But the way he wrote it made it sound like making it one version instead of two was the source of the problem.
Why is there a button on units for "Move 0 spaces"? Unless this is for some weird spell card, this seems completely useless. What's more, multiple times I've accidentally tapped on this when going to leave zoom mode, thus screwing up my turn. It would be really nice if there was a confirmation dialog when tapping on this button.
I thought it was clear what he was saying. You just misunderstood. He compared it to Magic 2013, an iPad-only release, which avoids having the same kinds of problems because it just doesn't run on iPhone at all.
I have to agree with the review this time. The problem is in forcing the game to be in the small screen. But that isnt necessarily a bad thing, as it lets people with the iphone (which is more portable than the ipad and carried with you all the time, duh) get on the action on the go, hence the async feature. And the Event cards need unique artwork for each one. Other than that, Summoner Wars has the gameplay of titans, and an async multiplayer well implemented.
It's a poorly placed button but it's for use when you want to activate a movement ability like Plague against the enemy you original started the turn against in the same position. Also, there's no point in caring about the TA review. It's clear it was just an obligatory review, as expected.
What's the difference between an obligatory review and a non-obligatory review? Every review is what the reviewer thinks, right?
I'm really glad they made it Universal. I'm an Ipad owner but obviously the Iphone is with me all day and I can sneak in turns here and there. Yes the UI is not optimized for the phone but is far from unusable. Plus I hate double dipping.
There's an update available from the AppStore now (or soon, depending on your region). You'll be able to connect again after updating.
Thanks for the update.. You should definitely put some kind of message in the app though or you'll get lots of frustrated players.
Yep, we did. Tested pretty thoroughly, too. Then ran into issues with our firewall when transferring to the live server. Working on a fix now...
