Curious about this too. Offline mode would be nice to have now so I can practice on the iPad (WiFi only) when I take it out of the office to show it around Q
Just a word of advice, Kyle...I think SE deserves to be frontpaged on TA, for sure. But continuing to imply that it should be, that you expect it, is going to be a turn-off for the TA staff. Even if it is (and it is!) deserved, it comes off as entitlement. Just FYI. Keep up the great work, and you'll be rewarded regardless!
TBH keeping this thread alive is much better than a one-day advertisement on TA. Alternatively you can pay for ad space and I'm sure that'll get some attention.
on web Ok, this is getting tiresome. I figured, go to web and examine deck there, maybe play a game or three, whatever. I enter email and pw and am asked to dl unity web player. Fine, do it and nothing happens. Every time I go to play, the only thing that happens is I'm asked to dl the unity web player again. Am tired of the runaround. Can anyone help? tia.
I have to agree with you, deadclown. I think SE is great and should definitely be featured by TA, but in the words of the great Dale Carnegie, "If you want to gather honey, don't kick over the beehive." If you want to get someone to do something for you, please don't insult them, Kyle. BTW - I have bought Shadow Crystals multiple times, and I've told most of my TCG playing buddies about your game. Great stuff, but the upcoming update can't come soon enough!
No way, I absolutely will call somebody out and defend my game, even if they are an almighty TA-God. If they don't like that, then they shouldn't be a journalist/writer/guy-that-plays-iPhone-games-and-writes-100-words-about-it. I read TA every day as my main source of iPhone release news, and now I'm wondering what other big news I'm missing out on... From http://toucharcade.com/toucharcade-advertising-and-editorial-policies/ (emphasis mine) "All reviews, news and coverage are based entirely on our own beliefs as to what is relevant or interesting to our readers" "[...] we want to reassure you that we are working very hard to provide you with the most comprehensive and objective coverage of the iPhone gaming scene." @hodapp on twitter: "After playing CCG's competitively for so long all these other games just feel like knock-offs to me. Hard to compete with 20 years of R&D." 1:55 AM Feb 24th via Twitter for Mac "Playing a pre-release of iOS Shadow Era really makes me wish they could just use the game engine for a real M:TG game instead of this. " 1:51 AM Feb 24th via Twitter for Mac Seriously, hodapp? You know that M:TG was the first CCG, right? So that, like, all other CCGs are knockoffs? You're looking for an iPhone game with 20 years of R&D? Seriously? You think that all your readers play CCG's competitively? So hodapp, I'm calling you out! Yes, you! A game of M:TG, you against a "competitive M:TG" Shadow Era fan. If you lose, you have to post about Shadow Era. If you win, then your readers will never have to know about CCGs on iPhone until the real M:TG is ported to the iPhone 8.
I gotta say, I agree with Kyle. TA reviews tons of ultra-basic 'blah' games on the front-page IMO. While Shadow Era is far from perfect, its at least ambitious and deserves some more attention. Comparing SE to M:TG is only relevant if/when M:TG comes to iOS.
2 things: 1) I bet a lot of people are like me and really only come here for the forums. That's where the real scoop on games is. Touch Arcade is really doing themselves a disservice if they want to be taken seriously as a gaming news outlet by ignoring Shadow Era. Maybe if you put out an endless runner or changed your name to Square you might get noticed 2) Kyle, I love Shadow Era and Wesnoth. I think they are 2 of the best games on the platform but you have been hounding Touch Arcade from the second Shadow Era was released to feature it on their site. It's just doesn't come off as very professional. Nor does putting down other people's games to elevate your own. Again, I want to root for you. I love your games....you just need to take it down a notch. Keep putting out good games and good updates and we'll keep buying them
i disagree. i think you gotta keep hounding and maybe take it up a notch so you keep getting noticed by them. as should we all keep on hounding Toucharcade to do a front pager.
Of course I have to hound them, and give them a hard time, and put forth conspiracy theories, so they don't forget about the game! All in good fun, I hope... Don't take me too seriously please! Not sure when I put down other people's games, unless you mean my offhand comment that Urban Rivals was like rock-paper-scissors. I sincerely apologize to rock-paper-scissors, that wasn't a fair comparison. Heheh well I just meant that comparing Shadow Era to Urban Rivals is like comparing Magic: The Gathering to Yugioh, if you know what I mean... I have played a lot of Urban Rivals, it's a good casual game, and they even talked to me about potentially publishing Shadow Era. They have an absolutely huge player base and are fairly highly ranked on iPhone as well so they must be doing something right.
Hehe. I don't blame you for wanting your game to get noticed and sometimes things don't come across in print as being in good fun when you really meant them to. I hope Touch Arcade realizes what a huge mistake they're making if they continue to ignore Shadow Era like this. Good luck, man!
As a former MTG player, i would say SE if really good n fun. The cards price are very competitive compare to other TCG. Most importantly, this game can be played mobile. I dont have time to open my laptop just to play one MTG game online. To me SE is not as deep as MTG.. But all of TCG players know how many MTG sets already available and its been around for years. But SE still very good n more cards n decks are coming which is more important to realize. I registered this forum and other forums mostly to see the forum discussions, not the home page with few words. Sometime ok, but when i really want to consider a game, forum discussion is always my main source. In summary, rather than making efforts to be in TA front page, please submit the updates. Cant wait to get new cards.
I definitely agree with this. The current reviews done and purchases I have made due to TA front-page reviews have made me wonder if there's some funny business going on in the backrooms.
argh, this Eladwen madness is driven me crazy!!! but i got locky today, i defeated 2 eladwen decks with my warrior deck ^^
Hodapp said that he's planning on doing a frontpage story about Shadow Era, but things have just been so busy and crazy at GDC this week that he didn't have time yet. Well, he didn't really say that... Didn't reply to my pm... But I like to imagine that's what he would say if things weren't so busy and crazy......
He's taken the perfectly sensible approach of ignoring CCG games that don't have 20 years of research and development behind them. What's wrong with that? One of those will be along any day now, so why waste time reviewing a popular and fun CCG that has less than 20 years R&D?! That would be mental. Might as well just ignore it completely.
Web Play Second request: HELP! I want to play on the web rather than the phone or at least go over my decks. The website ALWAYS asks me to download the Unity player as soon as I enter user name and password. I have done so ten times and still, nothing happens. I am always redirected back to the download page. In the Unity folder on my hard drive, I show a WebPlayerPrefs folder, inside a game_2eshadowera_2ecom folder and inside that, one file named prefshadowera117_2eunity3d.upp. Thanks.
