It’s been many years since Guybrush Threepwood was last locked in a battle of wits with his nemesis, the zombie pirate LeChuck. His true love, Elaine Marley, has turned her focus away from governing and Guybrush himself is adrift and unfulfilled, having never found the Secret of Monkey Island. Hip, young pirate leaders led by Captain Madison have shuffled the old guard from power, Melee Island has taken a turn for the worse, and famed businessman Stan has been imprisoned for ‘marketing-related crimes’. Banter with old friends and new faces on familiar islands now under dangerous new leadership. Then, take to the high seas and explore the new and unknown as you work your way out of tough predicaments. Clever puzzles, bizarre situations, and devastating ripostes are all that stand between Guybrush and glory. Return to Point & Click Swashbuckling Bringing classic point and click gameplay to the modern-day, intrepid pirates will solve puzzles and explore the islands with a clever evolution of classic adventure game controls. Context-sensitive interactions, reactive dialog trees, and an easy-to-use inventory system make pirating a breeze. Embark on Archipelago Adventures Navigate the sometimes-friendly confines of Melee Island, a familiar place that finds itself under new management by leaders who have put the squeeze on old friends and new faces. Venture out into uncharted lands like the aptly named Terror Island and the chilling outposts of Brrr Muda to make allies and enemies alike. Created by a Legendary Crew The new chapter in the Monkey Island series marks the return of the iconic series’ creator Ron Gilbert, joined by game co-writer Dave Grossman, art director Rex Crowle (Knights & Bikes, Tearaway) and composers Peter McConnell, Michael Land, and Clint Bajakian (Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge). I admit that I was just a trifle leery of this earlier, since I’ve seen some “funny tactics”, from other developers, when new editions of their games would be issued, with no provisions for earlier owners of those games. Most of those affected games though, were those that had been removed from the App Store for a time, then reissued. sebgo and ste86uk like this. sebgo Well-Known Member Dec 26, 2010 759 336 63 Male 95% leisure. Somewhere in a town amidst the Amazon jungle. http://www.google.com #13 sebgo, Feb 18, 2024 Most games and apps, as stated before, keep their "premium status" for earlier customers when they switch to free-to-play or free-to-try. The ones that somehow "steal" from customers are the ones that drop support to an app/game version and then release a separate one that you have to purchase again. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is an example that comes to mind. Now I'm stuck with an outdated version I can't even play on my current iThing while at the same time the game is available for purchase on the store as a separate product. I know we're not meant to have eternal support but it still kinda hurts. Some developers, like Supergiant Games, at least allowed people to get the full game unlock for Bastion for free, for a limited time, in order to allow previous customers to "restore" their previous purchase and that's super nice of them, even though it might have caused them some loss due to new customers being able to get the full game for free, too. Sometimes, business is just like that. Some companies want to share their product with a wider audience, others just want to fill their pockets, and there are also some in between. David1953 Well-Known Member May 26, 2013 476 40 28 #14 David1953, Feb 25, 2024 I just found out that even though I already own the game, it is asking me to pay again to continue to play. There’s no “restore purchase “ option either. I will mark this developer down as one who “steals” from their customers, since the only reason they even did the update was to make the game “free to play”, with no provision for prior owners. I wouldn’t have updated if I had known this was the case. On a side note, I did write to the developer, hoping that they would offer a code to unlock the full version for prior owners, and if I hear back, favourably, I will re-assess my opinion. mastery51 Well-Known Member Oct 21, 2009 484 243 43 #15 mastery51, Feb 25, 2024 Last edited: Feb 25, 2024 I’m not sure why they don’t have a restore button somewhere. But in cases like this, I found out that if you hit the purchase button anyway and you already purchased it before, Apple will give you a pop up notification saying that you purchased it already. It will unlock the full version. But, “You have to make sure it’s same version of the game” (same developer). Also you need the same (AppStore account / login) that made the purchase. Because if it isn’t it will then charge you for it. David1953 Well-Known Member May 26, 2013 476 40 28 #16 David1953, Feb 25, 2024 Although tempting, I’m not going to try that option, mastery51, since I don’t really want to pay the $12.99 plus 15% tax, here in Canada, after purchasing it earlier, without being absolutely certain that I wouldn’t be charged. Normally, a restore purchase option would show up. I certainly understand that I should have played the game much earlier, right after I bought it. However, I had a big backlog of games at the time, which I still have, and never got around to playing it then. Also, I should never have even updated the game, and the only reason I took that chance was being too trustful that the developer wouldn’t try to pull off a fast one. I’m still hoping that I hear back from the developer, or at the least, they issue another update for the game with a “restore purchase “ option for earlier buyers. brerlappin Well-Known Member Feb 10, 2009 722 30 28 #17 brerlappin, Feb 25, 2024 I heard back from Devolver. Luckily I’m in the U.K. and I don’t have to worry about trying to buy things again to see if it gives it me back for free since I can just right of withdrawal things as long as I don’t do it too often.
