I recently started playing Pocket Planes, and I am now level 12 and I am finding it very hard to advance at this stage of the game. I currently have all of Australia covered airport wise, and I have a single airline running from San Fransisco to Boston (via Kansas City), but I am finding it really hard to make decent experience at this level and I don't know how to fix my airline to advance a little quicker then I am now. (its soooo slow). Basically I would just like some advice on what to do now and a explanation of why as I'm finding it difficult to understand what to do to resolve my low income and xp issues. I have tried to read through the thread here and quite a few tutorials from peoples sigs, but with 1200 odd pages it is a bit hard to find out what to do. Sorry to anyone if this has been asked and answered multiple times. Thanks all for the awesome thread.
Cloudliners are also good for fun images The San Francisco 49ers were dismayed that their team charter to New Orleans wasn't a direct flight.
Hi all, I've been out of the posting game for a while but not (at least, not entirely) out of the game. Sad to say, but for the first time ever I've taken a raincheck on a global event, the Livingstone one. Going for the Bobcat part now, as I've traded away my Bobcat and it's the only plane I haven't dressed up in Merlionine colours and put in the hangar yet. (Anyone got a spare Bobcat engine?) I've traded quite a bit and am now flying from 52 slots, with a fleet consisting most of the time of 12 Concordes and 40 blimps. Boredom is still an issue so I'll probably switch strategies very soon, only thing is this one works so well, I don't what to switch to yet. Open for ideas! Sound strategy, adopted by most of the crew as far as I can see, but one warning though: once you start adding serious numbers of airports, your number of similar destined jobs will go down and you'll need ever more refreshes. So this won't work if you go down to the Class 2 airport level. 'Something similar'? This is exactly what I've been doing! Including things like making sure that every plane can go everywhere, and the layover buildup in Class 3 airports. Only difference being that I'm a bit later in the curve, with 52 slots and 85 airports. I too like the little logistics puzzles that every sortie poses. And I've solved the time factor by going exclusively to blimps, Class 1-wise. So I know what lies in your future, Matma One thing I can predict is that as you're opening ever more Class 1 airports, your available jobs will not only fragment, but also gravitate to Class 1 jobs. So you'll need ever more Class 1 planes, and fewer Class 3 ones. This is why I went from 30 blimps to 40. I'm flying Concordes mostly for the fun, although they're leaving useful Class 1 bux layovers in their wake. That said, I'm getting forever more bored. I've tried to keep boredom at bay by trading but there's a limit to the number of planes you can stock in anticipation of alternative strategies, or better, in anticipation of a serious upgrade. NimbleBit?!!! So again, open for alternatives. Twin cities bux sitting? Been there, done that. Not my cup of tea. The Merlion strategy (also known as Matma-plus-Blimps)? Done, works for me. But jeez Louise, am I ready for a change... Cheers, M.
Welcome to the club! I'd say either kick the SFO-Boston route and expand out of Australia while staying connected to your Ozzie network, i.e. start with opening Jakarta going on to Bangkok and Manila or so; or kick Oz and expand your shop in the US southward. You'll find you can make a lot more, both bux and coins, if your planes can fly long routes. Especially if you diligently fill 'em up for the 25% bonus. So keep your network in one piece. Also, be fanatic on bux jobs. Pick 'em up when you see 'em, don't leave them by the wayside. Chose one or two hub airports where you drop them for use with similar destinations, so you still get the 25% bonus while delivering the bux. Oh and don't forget the most essential ingredient in the Formula For Success: sign up to the TouchArcade1 crew, Home of Champions, and add your name to the spreadsheet! Good luck! M.
Im not the expert but I'll try to help First thing is XP is gained strictly from coin. The more planes = the more coin. Bux (can be) worth a lot more than 500 coins so take every bux job you get. Next rule especially at your level is to remember the 25% bonus and always aim to get it. If I were in your position...I would close Kansas city and SF and focus on where you are at. I'd aim to get jikarta as quick as possible and I would aim to get aero planes as quick as possible. If you are already there, then I would focus on grinding until I has alot of SE Asia. After that start stretching out and just trying to have fun with it. I personally started in Detroit. I grabbed as many small cheap airports inCanada as I could and opened as many slots as I could as son as I could. Then I realized this crap isn't working. So, I saved and bought NY then goose bay, Reykjavik and the others to make the hip to London. Then I closed all of the small Canadian cities then I got stuck until I opened Atlanta. Then I opened Boston, DC, Phil, and Toronto and grinded on that tour for a bit. Then I closed the London route. THEN...I found the boards! Then I spent like a week literally reading every post because I was afraid to miss something. Your best friend at your level are these boards and the people on them because they have so much great advice. For you there are also a lot of people that love to gift (I'm on Android so for me it sucks). But please don't be a beggar because I hate reading that crap. Overall, have fun with the game. It can be frustrating for some people...me... But if I were you if take the Merlion approach, open as many cities as possible and run the game, don't let it run you..
Attention TouchArcade1 Flight Crew. With 2D, 1H remaining in the Punxsutawney Air Show (did Phil see his shadow??), TA1 is in 3rd place by almost 15K, and 4th place is closing in with less than a 7k gap. What's a Pocket Plane's pilot to do? Ah...that's right - FLY! Weather in Philadelphia tomorrow morning, expected to be a brisk 28 degrees F. Plane departing for Puerto Rico, where it will be a lovely 83 degrees F Have to laugh that it takes an Aeroeagle 2 minutes to do a round trip from NY to Philly & back, considering it will take me 1 hour 35 minutes to get from my house to Philadelphia Airport....oh, and I'm equal distance between Philly & Newark. I'll be able to play while I'm on the plane, and tomorrow in San Juan at the hotel. After that...it's lights out for Nalazoo's TouchArcade Airline for one week Wishing you all Happy Flying. I'll file a cruise report when I return.
Well THAT was odd that I was typing my diatribe and the person I probably respect the most for sound advice and game play style was pretty much giving you the same advice only quicker than I could give it! Sooooooo yeah, what Merlion said!
Holy crap, that's awesome! BTW...thanks for the gift, SuperPenguin! I appreciate it! I have also cut down on my airports (I think I have 6 or 7) and my flights have been very cost effective....a lot more revenue too overall.
small digression, for those of you who enjoyed Tiny Tower, you definitely should check Pixel People. http://toucharcade.com/2013/01/31/pixel-people-review/
How many plane slots do you have, and what planes do you own? Australia is the most difficult starting point for earning as it takes a while before you can reach sizable cities. To maximize profits, you want to carry jobs long distances in planes with low operating costs. At your level you're probably tempted by the fast Equinox and Birchcraft, but the operating costs (faster planes cost more to run) are not balanced out by profit because they carry so few jobs. You would also have to open blue and red airports (both of those planes are class 2 and can't land in places like Kansas City). The real workhorse at your level is the Kangaroo. It's slow but that means it's cheap to fly and you'll make more profit per flight. Mohawks are also great. Get rid of Wallabys, Navigators, Anans, Airvans, Bearclaws, and Griffons - scrap them and sell the parts. Create long straight-line routes. If you're using class 1 planes, open a big city at each end of the route and class 1 cities in between. Only load planes for the end points of your route, and only send planes that are full and have the 25% bonus. If you grab a bux job that falls in one of your intermediate cities that's fine; land to deliver it and then pick up a job going to your final destination so you get the 25% bonus at the end. At this stage, though, coins are more important than bux (in my opinion). In your case, I'd focus on one region and close out the other. If you keep Australia, create a straight line route that takes you from Sydney/Melbourne and hops up to Jakarta, then keep expanding up through Southeast Asia. If you keep North America, start expanding south. You can hop a profitable route from San Francisco down to Rio/Sao Paulo. Once you reach level 16, you can start buying Aeroeagles. They are a worthwhile investment. Sent! Oh great, like I needed another game to obsess over... so much for getting laundry done.
Of course I had to go install it ... My poor Blockhead will prolly suffer. Can't wait for the Philadelphia event to end. I dislike this type of event due to the quick turnaround time for planes to land, causing my game to freeze/pause more frequently while I'm playing.
i am thinking of doing a all sequoia also but currently I am just using a mix of Seq and cyclones I want to replace my cyclones with cloudliners
Isn't it February 2nd when he looks to see if he sees his shadow? (All I know is that Groundhog Day is set on February 2nd 1993.)
Coastcat and Merlion already gave you some very good advice, so I just have one thing to add: close your unneeded airports. This will help streamline your operations and minimize the lower paying jobs in your job list. You mentioned you have all of Australia covered. What I would do is close most of them, and just keep the ones needed to have a straight line from Australia to East Asia. Your next expansion goal is Jakarta. It's expensive so you'll have to grind through in Australia until you save up enough. Keep Sydney as this is your biggest city in Australia and will generate the most jobs. Until you get Jakarta, your longest route will be Geraldton to Wellington, so keep both of those cities to maximize coin. You might also consider keeping Broome or replacing Geraldton with Broome, as this is also a long route to Wellington, and Broome is closest to Jakarta in case you need to hop cities to get to Jakarta. Australia is the hardest beginning point out of all of them, so don't feel bad that you are having a hard time.
Thanks Nalazoo and Faye, for the parts! Anything you guys need, just let me know. This was the last part needed for the achievement 'Airpedia Complete.' NimbleBit, we're ready for an update, or some new planes, or both. Give us that Class 1 6-seater, or a Class 3 24-seater, or something hideously fast, or just hideous. I don't care. Just break the boredom. Cheers, M.
And thanks to Igerera as well! Case closed, people. I have all the Bobcat engines I need. Matter of fact, if someone wants one, or wants his returned, just shout out! Cheers, M.
Ok going to sound like a complete noob but I can't find a post saying how you find your gamecentre ID. I want to join Toucharcade1 and also have some parts to trade.
Sorry to TA1 for my slow contribution this event. My device has gone missing *fingers crossed* It turns up tomorrow otherwise my last backup was about 2 weeks ago :/
I don't know if you have one, but when you start PP, a box drops down saying, "Welcome back <GC name>". I suppose you could also open the GC app and find out from there.
Thanks, I thought it might be that but wanted to check. Am going to join TA1 after this event as TA has got boring
