I think maybe what the problem is here eeenmachine, is that you want to make sure that all content is available for everyone, even casual players, correct? That's why the rare items/dizzypad mechanic doesn't seem like a good idea to you. Might I suggest a compromise? My line of thinking is that casual users would not want the 'froggy metadata', or the more complicated Dizzypad game element, but might not want all the items as well. I'm not suggesting that you make the prizes from 'mini dizzypad' unobtainable for anyone who doesn't play that element of the game, but merely make them more difficult to obtain than other, more common items. Maybe they are more expensive, or require more breeding to unlock than other items (are you implementing an unlock system based on number of breedings?). I'm not trying to disagree with you, I'm merely suggesting an alternative that may appease both the casual and hardcore gamer. Achievements would be another way to award hardcore gamers for the 'dizzypad element' if you didn't want to award items. I believe this would eliminate the problem of alienating casual users, because I assume most of them would not be as attuned to achievements as the hardcore gamer. Again, you've been doing a ton of work on the game, and we gamers appreciate the clear time and effort you've put into this game to make it such a high quality piece of entertainment. Thank you for reading. Drkmaster
That's exactly what I was trying to say, but you word it so much better than me. It's possible to make the game appealing to casual and "hardcore" gamers.
I still think it will be without a clear cut game with lives and high scores. There will be many parts of the game that completionists will agonize over.
This looks really great! I'll be getting this one for sure as soon as it's available. I have a thing for frogs (in case you couldn't tell by my upcoming release and these look incredible!
Really? Wow, thanks so much! I think they may appeal to a slightly different type of gamer (as mentioned in the discussion in this thread), and I'm 100% okay with that...I wouldn't want to be directly competing with Pocket Frogs
Love it I have a problem...I started with We Rule and have not stopped. I take care of my tapbirds better than my children and this looks amazing!!! I really hope the devs will give out some codes. Any thoughts about price point for Ipad?
Nope, not a joke. The game will be free with optional consumable in-app purchases. Some more good info is in this Touch Arcade preview article http://toucharcade.com/2010/07/12/exclusive-pocket-frogs-sneak-preview-breed-an-army-of-frogs-in-nimblebits-next-game/
