Thanks Infinity I have to say, good star ratings really help. There's so much i'd like to do that i cant, so i just put it into a list and i make the changes one step at a time. High star ratings are kind of like support for developers because they help convince people to give the game a try, which encourages me to keep working on it. It's a great way to support and feed the development process.
I bought this game because i like open world games, and it was on the launch price of 0.99 cents. Then it crashed. I tried a few times, and it still crashed. I have a 1st gen ipad mini, and its on the latest ios version. If you can fix it, thanks a lot. It looks like a really cool game, too
The review made me want the game mainly because exploration IS my favorite part of a good RPG; although I still need some kind of goal structure. I long for a game with a huge in-game world with great lore, that's only quests/goals were exploring the whole world. It would require finding an animal to ride, gathering food, building a boat, etc, but all with the intent on exploring every major element of the world, and discovering the reasons for things being the way they are. Sort of like Myst, meets a MMORPG, meets Ico/Shadows of the Colossus.
Thanks for the support TheNoobOfTheCentury yeah, There's unoficial A5 (ipad mini, iPhone 4s) support and Ive had it running on all those devices, as well as a few players. When i get feedback from it crashing, restarting the device and then playing it has solved the problem most times. But some people have restarted it and it crashed after a few minutes. I know that's super frustrating because we just want to get in there and go, so I'm continually working on optimizations and I'll be trying to get even better performance on all devices. Can you try restarting the ipad and try it again, and let me know if it works?
That would be a fantastic game I like quests and some structure too - its a way to guide us around the worlds and get to know them, interact with them in a meaningful way. I'm working on updates 1.2 and 1.3 which have new mechanics. then when they are settled and ready, version 1.4 will have quests. A bit about them, they'll be focused away from violence but some will have combat - i want to try and keep things balanced. they're based on the 3 skills from my HTML5 RPG at http://nimianlegends.com - the world this game is based in - so Speed, Spirit, and Skill. And it involves a larger overarching story spread between all four chapters (BrightRidge 1 one quarter of the original game that was too big and so i split it into 4). I've been working hard to make short digestible quests that will work together (hopefully) to communicate more about the world and your place in it. I hope you'll keep posted on updates btutterrow and thanks for the feedback PS Shadow of the Colossus is my favorite game
Hi orangecan - I actually bought an iPod 5th generation a few weeks ago and have played BrightRidge on it, although it defaults to lower detail settings. Technically it should play on all A5 devices with the lower detail, but in practice Ive been getting feedback from people where it does work out of the box, where it works after a restart, and one or two where it didn't work at all, so in reality it's a bit of a crap shoot. If you want to give it a go it SHOULD work, but if you can play it on a newer device you'll be safer, and the detail will be higher.
Touch Arcade Review!! I got a review on Touch Arcade! It was a real surprise http://toucharcade.com/2014/08/12/nimian-legends-brightridge-review/ I want to thank everyone on this forum for your support and for interacting with me, the game, and giving me feedback, criticism and encouragement. Having a Touch Arcade review is one of the coolest things in my book and, as a side bonus, i now have a game review on MetaCritic! This is all very encouraging and I'm going to keep moving forward with the update plans Thanks!
Thanks a lot, it works now. There's just one thing: if I adjust my sound while in the game it will crash.
Like if you change the volume? That's good to know - I'll test that, do some research and see if I can find a fix. thanks for getting back to me with that detail - it helps a lot
Well if anyone deserves this things it's you. You've been listening and sharing your views and ideas all the way. Even for the game as it stands at the moment it's still extremely reasonably priced and look forward to see what comes next.
Congrats on the reviews you been getting ! yeah i think most people are hungry for quests/story/goals from what I'm reading in the reviews but i don't think they know about your website which has a ton of story and stuff to work with refining the story and action mechanics sounds awesome ! and i don't think having action in the game is a bad thing as long as exploration stays as the core it probably would drive players more and give purpose but! i know you're hard at work as always haha so this game is only the first stepping stone to your future work keep up the good work !
Wow, I would love to play this game!!! Thing is, I have an iPhone 4s. Will there be a future update that will allow the game to run on a 4s device?
I'm glad it looks interesting nkdekker It runs on my iPhone 4S but in the field it's touch and go. It runs at a lower detail level on A5 devices like the 4S but for some people it works perfect, some it crashes and works only after a restart, and for some not at all. There's no way to restrict apple from letting people with A5 devices download the game, so i worked really hard to optimize it in the last version (1.1). Unfortunately it's still a bit of a crap shoot on A5s. So if you can spare the money and want to try it, go for it, at the very least it'll be tied to your account and when you get a newer device (if you do) it'll work very smoothly. I'll also be optimizing it as i update so we should look at better performance with each one.
Thanks bigjack You've been really supportive from the start and I'm glad you're still here. I'm going to try and focus on making the updates - im pretty excited
Thanks yeah, that's exactly how i want to take it. Im adding a few more elements that people understand and that can help guide the player and reveal the world but sticking with an exploration base at the core.
I think this is wonderful! I just got it a few hours ago, and am enjoying it so much! Exploration in a game is one of my great loves, and I really like being able to just explore without worrying about being attacked all the time. This is marvelous, and I think it's a very pretty world! I also love the concept of the spirit views. Would you consider making it an option to play as a female character? I don't know how involved that would be, and playing as a male character is perfectly fine with me, it's just that as a female gamer it adds a little to my feeling of being part of the story when I do have that option. Just a thought--this is a wonderful experience as is, and I foresee many happy hours of wandering your lovely creation.
Wow that's wonderful feedback Valentia Im really glad ou enjoyed the exploration because thatÂ’s where my heart is. I love the spiritviews to (and coming soon, the ability to become the animal as well). That was added relatively late in the process. I removed flying when i chopped the original game into 4 parts, 1 being BrightRidge. Then about halfway through I added it back in (and im glad i did because flying is a fan favorite and mine too). Then i was on an animal kick from the return of the eagle and spiritview was born I'd love to have a choice of male and female characters. When i began this game i bought the barbarian model because it was great quality construction, had good animations, and i do have this barabarian character named Rando that's been in a lot of my games. But as the game became more about exploration, i realized that he was a great character (He's a master hunter) but he's a bit "God of War"-ish for this kind of game. In fact, i think seeing him in screenshots gives the idea that this game is more violent than it is. Anyways my animations are tied to that particular model so if i bring in another character i have to get all new animations for her .. so first i need to update the legacy animation im using now to Unity's Mecanim system, which will let me use multiple characters with the same animations. That's a big upgrade so it might not be in the next few updates, but all this to say it definitely will be in the game at some point, and the ones that come after that. the great thing about feedback is it causes me to consider things i might not have thought of before, or to push things forward in the pipeline. So it might make an appearance sooner too depending on how smoothly the game updates are. It's great to hear from a gamer who is female. You know, i kind of assume most players i speak with are male - old habit - but many of them could be female too and i wouldn't know it unless i asked. I'm glad you mentioned it and it's great to see women enjoying games
Okay, do you want me to play test it for you? I could go through it and try to find the bugs or what not, then email my findings to you! (I am a dev, so I enjoy such things as testing a lot!) What say you?
