Impressions and answers from Slidetoplay: about gameplay depth: "It's definitely a "game" rather than a tech demo, despite its limited scale. The stat tweaks you give yourself and your management of weapons and armor go a long way toward making each trip through the castle feel like you're progressing and getting stronger. You also equip rings that allow you to use various kinds of magic mid-fight. The fighting is just as deep as the character management. Both you and the enemies have a good number of moves, and you're constantly on the edge of your seat, trying to figure out which way to dodge the next attack so you don't get hit. The fights are very fun, and can be quite intense. I'm not a big fighting game fan either, but I'm enjoying every fight in this game." Gameplay length and updates: "I still haven't beaten the God King, but I talked to Chair's creative director Donald Mustard, and he said his last run-through took about four hours. They're also working on a game update that will enable multiplayer. And if it sells well they'll keep adding new content in updates." File size: "The file is 309.4 MB." Is the game fun?: "It's very, very much like Punch-Out. Which is funny, because of how different the games are in tone. I've played a number of other boxing games on the iPhone that have similar control schemes to this, but the fighting in Infinity Blade is better than any of them." Boss placement is random: "You can't backtrack, unfortunately. Sometimes you fight different monsters at the same place in the castle, so they seem to be at least semi-random." Can you kill the GodKing?: "I haven't beaten him yet, although I got very close on my fourth attempt." All answers were taken from the article comment area. Thanks to Chris R, for providing these answers to many.
There is nothing disappointing about this game! People, last time I checked... it takes a long time to develop a massive RPG. Infinity Blade was made in four months with all the resources of the CHAIR team. Everyone stop complaining on what this game isn't, because I guarantee an incredible game is in the works... it just takes time! So what is Infinity Blade? The way I see it, it looks like a glimpse of what is to come: "AAA quality iOS gaming." The game looks like a lot of fun! It really seems like an epic scaled "Punch-Out" with lots of customization, and a ton of challenge. Chair wanted to make a game using the Unreal 3 Engine, and they said they wanted to make an addictive game that always has you coming back for more, and by the looks of it... I think they succeeded. Everyone who is complaining needs to just be patient; the engine is still very new to the iOS and it's just going to take time.
@ Pacificsun I also heard on the Touchgen podcast that there are 6 enemy types, and the enemies occur randomly and repeat as you progress. Also each time you get defeated, you repeat the game as a different person and the time period is shifted a couple hundred years into the future (although everything is still the same). And that's why it's called Infinity Blade.
Yea, basically when you die, you fast-forward into the future as his son and try to avenge your death. Then you keep doing that until the boss is defeated.

Good point. I'm starting to see a pattern with some developers. They'll exaggerate certain qualities of their game to get everyone talking about it, and when it starts to get close to release day, they'll backtrack, and try to underplay the hype they helped to create. "It's More Of An Action Game: Think of the RPG aspects of Infinity Blade as a strategic compliment. The action part of the game, which has you reacting to attacks from large and small foes, and then dispensing your own punishment composes the core of the game." -- Touch Arcade Interview (November 15th, 2010) They should have said from the start that it was a fighting game, period, instead of as the "definitive RPG action adventure for the iOS" as the trailer touts. If there is a backlash, it'll be their own fault.
Soooooo - there might be a . .. . Lightsaber lying somewhere around the loots perhaps. Future technology and suchlike. I'd expect a lot more smog also as well, and general pollution and decay of the environment in general. . . as being reflective of the reality that we do in fact presently occupy. no. Maybe fifty years later the god-king has gotten hisself a Dj and strobe lights and is all into house music - hardcore. That and the technological advancement through the generations that would enable some dude to build me(or my eventual next of kin) a lightsaber and leave it as loot lying around the castle for to eventually slay the god-king with. yes!?!
via their twitter: DonaldMustard : Infinity Blade is a whole lot of game in a tightly compact download size of just under 320mb!
that's fantastic! Deleted Rage HD after playing through each level once cause it took 1.2GB unpacked.
via slidetoplay: slidetoplay: They're also working on a game update that will enable multiplayer. And if it sells well they'll keep adding new content in updates. Guys please buy it and dont try pirate copies please
I dont wanna sound bad...but if the guys get less sales they might see we want virtual stick control. Lots of sales will make them think "wow our next game must be like this!"
This will sell extremely well, no matter what. All we can do is hope that they are just testing the waters with this game and make an open world RPG for their next game.
It's a punch out esque fighting game, there's no need for a virtual stick for the walking around bits since they are akin to a menu.
I'm glad I want this game for what it's worth. A very gorgeous Hack-in-slash with RPG elements, and a good deal of character customization(equips). Infinity Blade looks good for both casual play in spurts and/or more hardcore play in longer sessions. No complaints at the lack of free-roaming(though it would be nice) because everything else looks and sounds on point. I plan on getting this and Aralon because they are two completely different games and they both look well worth the wait. It's going to be a great week for iGaming.
