Any 'trailer' without gameplay is not a real trailer IMO. It's only a teaser, or maybe a commercial. Also, this: Same video, cut and edited to play backwards (sounds stupid but you know why if you've seen the first)
This is one of the best trailers I have seen. It really has taken off since being releasedd last week.
People who don't like this trailer are the same people who don't think video games are an art form. That was fantastic. If this is the style their going with the game, then I'll probably have to check it out.
I don't agree, I don't like the trailer, purely because it is a trailer for a game and it displays no gameplay. I can appreciate it as trailer for the story and cinematics, but not as an advertisement for the game, which is what it should be.
Well I can agree with you in that aspect. I feel that trailers with actual gameplay aren't really... trailers. I don't know. To me, trailers are supposed to focus on the story and style of the game, because that's what I feel it's supposed to endorse. The story.
Yeah, I'm not disagreeing that the story and style should also be displayed in the trailer, but for them to be the sole focus of the trailer, I feel, is wrong. On the same hand, there are a lot of gameplay trailers that are just over the top and gimmicky, kind of like "omg look, rocket launchers!" style marketing. But there are a tiny marginal few who manage a nice balance of both, giving you a feel for the story and style thru gameplay excerpts. I find it disappointing that generally, you get two kind of trailers, the cinematic, story and style trailers, and then the gameplay trailers; instead of multiple trailers combining elements of all three.
I've found that most of the time the trailers that combine both just feel... flat. If you have awesome cinematography and then cut into real time gameplay, it just doesn't groove as much as I'd like. It makes it feel "choppy." Imagine if in this trailer, it all of a sudden cut to a first person perspective of you killing a zombie. I dunno, it just wouldn't flow as right. That's why I like two kinds of trailers, one for the story and the gameplay.
It does take a lot of skill to combine the two, and the good trailers are few and far between. Definitely get what you mean with them looking choppy, generally for me, due to a gap between the quality of graphics for the cinematics and the gameplay; and the changing perspectives like you mention. Still, it can be done, take this trailer for the upcoming Deus Ex game for example: Got to say, it doesn't do as good of a job as painting a picture of the world and the overarching story as other trailers for the game, but it does give a far more realistic impression of what to expect from the game on a mission to mission basis. But as a proof of concept, it works, just expand the scope of the trailer to the whole game instead of one mission, slap an extra minute or two of content on it, and it'd be fully rounded: no need for extra trailers. Also it's the first trailer I could think of off the top of my head Admittedly, it can't be done for every game, and it doesn't work unless there's a decent amount of effort put into creating it. But it's just those little glimpses of what is possible, kind of a what to expect in the game, that make a trailer what it is to me.
its not a gameplay trailer. No offence to anyone but ye are just idiots if you are complaining about lack of gameplay. The trailer is amazing. if you want gameplay look at gameplay videos when they come out.
Oh hey guess what, looks like the trailer has pretty much next to nothing to do with the game: http://uk.kotaku.com/5775798/that-heartbreaking-dead-island-family-theyre-not-in-the-game
Kinda similar to my opinion. I've played Dead Rising and that got super boring after awhile, if I were you.. I'd get Left 4 Dead 2 (On the PC , free maps that are user created, and free dlc's )
I just realized these guys (Techland) are the same guys that worked on Call Of Juarez, which is not exactly the greatest game. Even the new CoJ looks kind of bad but I hope this game is really good when they show actual gameplay.
