As an alternative for this, why can't we unlock mods for weapons forever, and switch them out in different slots without having to pay a bunch for an extra slot? As the game is now, it discourages trying different tactics because the game penalizes you if you want to switch mods. It might be a subtle way to encourage users to pay (and I did use IAP), but it also just makes me feel cheated as a customer. Just a thought.
As far as Shadow enemies go, why not just make a "proximity detector" mod for one of the spotlights that let's it automatically target any enemy (shadow or not) that is within 5 blocks? That still gives them an advantage without being totally immune to turrets. I don't think it would be a good idea to put it on anything else except maybe the flamer. This would actually give me a reason to use spotlights again too!
First IOS Game where I made it into the top ten :-D wave 32 on Rocky Mountains. Big step for me but a very small step for mankind!
I'm on my 42'th level, and just got my charachter to level 50 and still going strong without any problems. I used up all the mines, but i already have a steady income of 90 minerals with 9 drills going. I know it's lazy to not read through all the other 80 pages, but what is the record round so far overall?
Don't post pics of bugs man. U can just Private message to Foursaken Media rather than spread it in the community.
Magic Carpet influence and a suggestion mapp... Foursaken, I realized today this game reminds e of Magic Carpet series as well... any inflience from there? I loved the hunt in that game for the spells you would go and have to take out certain monsters to get bonus weapons.. could be fun to have to go to far corners of map to gather rare minerals from "boss" monsters... Also, an undergoround map /caverns might be a fun one to defend... lots of caves and enviromental danger possibilities!
I use modded light block. it's 10 gold but no minerals Learnt to use it in quickstart mode becouse I had nothing to do with collected gold (I don't use mines)
I would really love to see a versus multiplayer 1 vs 1 where both players have limited time to build a base and then battle each other by sendig out creeps. The players can only harm each other and not structers or the main base. You have to buy the creeps and in return for sendig them out you get a higher money or mineral income. Killing the other player just gives you money. Or you could also get xp to buy new abilities... A little MOBA stile. But I trust the guys from foursaken to release awsome addons anyway
Top 10 Tips Hey guys, I wrote up my Top 10 Tips for Kicking Ass at Block Fortress and toucharcade was gracious enough to publish as an article. See http://toucharcade.com/2013/03/15/heres-some-more-block-fortress-tips-from-giggles-grimm-a-very-dedicated-player/ Would love to hear what others think. Giggles Grimm.
Bazooka is vastly inferior to modded Heavy Plasma Rifle and Plasma Rifle... Plasma rifle has 10+ rof and does about 30-60 damage per second so 300-600 per second really, its range and splash is great. Heavy Plasma Rifle is like a free nuke every 20 sec. Both vastly superior to the Bazooka.
I'd be interested in seeing some screenshots. Particularly, the mining pyramids, and the plasma booms that you mentioned. Nice tips!
To all of you complaining about shadows, Trust me, they become extremely easy to deal with later on, especially with spotter and a certain level 50 gun... Another tip: some very cheap turrets can actually be used very effectively to stun or slow targets once modded
Some of these tips are good for starters to reach lvl 25 or around there but definitely not to round 40 or 50. Some things you want to change are farms since you dont really need them when you have stimpack with health mods. Also, it is imperative to get lvl 2 barracks ASAP and start working with the drills. My tip is to get a plasma rifle with energy core mod ASAP to defend your base as long as you can w/o turrets, upgrade barracks, and place drills(with no power/salvage mod) to the farthest mines from your base WHERE THE GOBLOCKS are not spawning. That way, your mining drills will be safe it will be easier to defend your mines in later parts of the game since you used up the mineral deposits away from your base. When you get to level 20, goblocks spawn from all four sides so its best to be able to get as many mineral deposits from the outside as possible before this happens. The best place to position your base is in the center of the map or close to it where the terrain has the least interference with the line of sight of your turret. This is best because goblocks take longer to get to your base to give your turrets more time to pound on enemies. It also lets you spot enemies quicker with your spotter(it has a limited range) and allows you to shoot goblocks from your base. If your base is too close to one side then goblocks that spawn from that side can reach your base quick and wreck some havoc if you arent paying attention. For turrets, I would go with lasers(damage/detector mods) for earlier levels, transition into orbital lazers(detection, damage, rof mods) then Howitzer to deal with high hp mobs. Ordinary lasers are good for early parts of the game and they help out for later parts too. Orbital lazers are a MUST because they have unlimited range and have a HUGE aoe and high damage(enough to one shot most groups of monsters). I would also recommend having some mortars or MIRV turrets with slow/stun mods to slow down enemies to give you more time to react to their attacks. Turrets with small range are not ideal because you want to kill monsters before they are able to get close to your base. As for equipment, I would go with a modded plasma rifle(damage/tactical light/energy core mods), spotter (identification/status, range mod), stimpack (move speed x4/ regen mods) and heavy plasma gun(Damage mod x5). The heavy plasma gun is good as it as a 9 block radius and deals around 750 damage every 20s. This is great as it basically allows you to obliterate a whole group of goblocks(such as shadows!) in one hit. You use the plasma rifle to kill monsters the rest. Spotter and stimpack equipment is a must because you need to be able to spot the enemies(shadows, disintegrators, etc) and need to be able to move faster(your base speed is really slow). I wouldn't recommend armor because it slows you down and the damage reduction isnt really that effective unless you are getting hit by 5-10 strong mobs at a time(which is really rare). The regen from the stimpack and kiting mobs are enough to keep you alive for all the rounds.
Nice writeup. I will just add that for later waves you will have run out of any mines. Move your mines next to your base and cover them because they can still mine M just alot slower. Max mines and drills give about 50-70M per round If you are building defensive walls build some away from your base where some of your tall turrents line of sight stops. Most effective walls for later waves is ones that cost $$$ especially the 100 hp $1 ones as most enemies later on can do more than 100hp damage in one shot so the more blocks you have the longer they delay enemies and distract away from your turret. When you do build walls place them in a chessboard pattern (all on black for example none on white). This is because when one block gets destroyed the blocks above it fall down to fill the hole. It is also a great way to tell at end of round which side of map is doing more damage and can place more turrets facing that way. If you build a side by side wall if a enemy destroys 1 bottom block they just walk through... If you build chessboard x pattern then they would have to destroy every block in the column. It also slows down shadows as they have to climp up and down to get to your base. I usually build a double layer that is decently high so shadows have to climp up, climb down then climp up and down again Heavy Plasma Rifle can do 2000+ hp per shot every 20 seconds modded for damage and walls slowing shadows/enemies allows for a second shot before they reach base. I disagree that Orbital Lasers require ROF, or the self power mod. I only give detection and full damage on my orbital lasers. I power them manually is really no hastle but they can kill hard enemies in 1-2 shots rather than 3+ is really helpfull. I also do not use self powered mods for Howitzers as it allows for one extra damage mod and full rof. The 1 damage mod allows them to kill some enemies in less shots and others in 1 shot instead of 2. I would also suggest building cheap light blocks for $10 around your base because shadows will attack that before they try to kill your base/turrets and it allows you more time to deal with them. Throw in some HP and regen HP on lights is decent. Another amazing turret is the Flamer moded with HP regen and max HP. It will have over 260 hp and heal itself! Put it around your base to distract shadows if they are causing you trouble. High waves, the biggest threat is long range mobs and the very tough to kill melee elites. You need high damage at far range and high damage at medium range to kill them before they aim for you. As you get into higher waves the enemies have more HP/armor and do more damage so your plasmas and lasers will do ok but your Turrets sith lower armor penetration will start to help less. If you build your base well and have decent level/hp and spotter/stim pack and armor you can try to collect the gold on a safe side of the map where enemies die quick and "shoot at your base" with Heavy Plasma Rifle to clear Shadows. I build a mound on my base and create a + sign shaped cross with some lights directly above base so i can aim Heavy Plasma Rifle there to clear base of Shadows while I'm collecting $. You really need to so you can keep affording to repair your chessboard walls after every wave or you will eventually be overrun! I go through waves with over 150 blocks lost! These lost blocks are key becuse they draw fire from your important turrets!
Yeah, the walls around the base in the checkboard type fashion is a good tip as well. Heavy Plasma is a MUST as well haha. especially since it one shots almost all mobs ROF on turrets can be effective as well. Sometimes its better to have 2x damage, 1xrof then to have full on 3x damage mods. I find that an orbital with 1x detection, 1x damage, 1x ROF is enough to oneshot almost all mobs(except for the beefy ones) plus it has an 1atk/8sec rather than 1atk/10s. I think it is safe to say that for 1x damage mod, and 1x rof mod, the dps given from that would be even(given 100% is base damage and 1.0 is base attack speed @125% damage/0.8 attack speed= 156.25% damage) Theoretically, a damage mod + 1 rof adds more damage than 2x damage mods (150% damage). However, in some instances more damage mods allow turrets to one shot specific monsters as oppose to two shotting it so it can be practical for a turret to have full on damage mods. However, since we dont know the exact health and armor of each goblocks it would be difficult to do the math to find the most optimum mod arrangement for turrets. It would be helpful if the devs were to include more information on the monsters such as HP, armor, damage, and range. That way, it would be easier to know what type of mods a turret needs to possible one shot a certain monster. The light around the base to distract the shadows is a great idea! i was using cheap turrets to do that but the light block is a lot cheaper.
