Asphalt 7 is extremely good looking on the New Nexus 7 (and i'd also assume this to be the case on retina-enabled iDevices. Does Asphalt 8 really look that much better? I'm asking all those who have seen the game in person.
Ryan, I took the liberty to create a simple, official topic for Asphalt 8 at NeoGAF, one of the most known internet gaming forums around. I hope that this will help elevate the game's perception of just another mobile, casual racer to a full fledged console experience in your pocket, since GAF is overall a core gamer community. Here's the link for the thread: http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=653267
Yes, much better in my opinion from playing it at E3. A7 looks more cartoony to me. A8 seems to have a more realistic driving feel to it, and graphically was very impressive. I posted alot of picts in this thread, but now all are probably lost in the hundreds of pages here, maybe I will repost them in my HDMI thread or E3 thread for you later.
It seems that the official touchArcade editors discovered Asphalt! Finally. After having completely ignored Asphalt 7 (because of the IAPs afair which are completely optional—at the same time they pushed and hyped Real Waiting 3… uhm: Real Racing 3 like no other game before and gave it 5/5 stars) there is already front page article #3 about Asphalt 8 before it even was published! http://toucharcade.com/2013/08/15/hands-on-with-gamelofts-asphalt-8-close-to-the-finish/ (I didn't read it btw but not because it's by tA but because I don't want to spoil the fun until I'll have it on my iPad. Personally I don't read any hands-on reviews and don't watch such videos. I just want to make all experiences by myself.)
Unrelated to A8 and I don't know if there's any history prior to this post...but why would you not read anything on the site "because it's by tA"? Why would anyone who frequents this site (let alone for 4 years) not read the editorials on the front-page? Again, I don't quite understand if there's anything I should be reading first and I'm certainly not directing this at you in particular, but if this is one of those "TouchArePaid"/conspiracy/whatever comments, why are you (not you, Habakuk) still here?
Good question. I don't always agree with the reviews myself and there are sometimes some odd decisions made and some notable stuff ignored but there are some top quality reviewers as well (Brad, Eric, Jared spring to mind) that I can't help but agree with a lot of the time as well. I thought they reviewed A7 anyway but I can't find it at the minute. I'm sure I remember they were annoyed by the iap element asking questions all the time but acknowledged the iap was totally unnecessary in order to progress and that the game was very generous with rewards and was in fact a lot of fun. Which I think was pretty fair. I may have liked it a bit more but one couldn't argue with that assessment really. I do put a lot more weight on user impressions on the forum than any review anywhere but the toucharepaid conspiracy is very amusing considering if that is ones belief, why participate at all because it is all about click throughs and expressing that belief on the site/forum is a click through. Even a review site is a business after all. That's not to say the publishing environment doesn't have unsavoury practices but I couldn't say I can find any going on here in that sense. Gamers do tend to have some very odd opinions and beliefs at times that tend to fail the logic test. I'm sure I've fallen in to that characterisation myself at times but do try not to. applying context and logic helps.
That may be so but you surely must be aware that not everyone who has played it extensively would be in a position to answer that at the moment due to certain factors. Some would (and Leegames has been very good to us in that sense) but some wouldn't. Even the E3 build was a long way back and a demo really. There was a lot more work done on it in the meantime that only improved it. If you're for looking some solid impressions, try Gamereactor.dk and translate the review of A8. Lee did a great review and gave a lot of detail on it.
I read everything by tA's editors believe me—except when it comes to racer games. tA's editors (and those of most other reviewing sites) are absolutely poor in that genre. That's my opinion. A7, one of the top iOS games altogether, has been completely ignored, the crap RR3 has been hyped. The A7 main thread is an unmoderated mess. But let's see it as some kind of positive progress that they seemingly "recognized" Asphalt 8. And there IS a history to this opinion. I told that politely several times before and I must say my postings never had been censored or deleted (the only thing I can remember is that they changed/splitted a RR3 thread)—but not commented either. Respect. Chapeaux. touchArcade is a great source for the majority of genres, I recommend it often, the forums are very good with some moderation lite, and there seems to be some advancement in the racer genre. So everything turns better after those years. I never commented on that topic, please don't try to insinuate something, metalcasket. But I know that tA makes revenues with public relations like (almost) all web based portals, sites and blogs; and that's not top secret. Despite the fact they are making money with any app you buy via an app store link you click @ tA I believe that the editor's are doing their best when it comes to rate and review games. But there is room for improvement like everywhere.
Ryan, will Google play game services be available in A8? I mean achievements, leaderboards, cloud save for Android players.
Oh believe me...I'm not trying to insinuate anything, and made that clear in my post. I just found that quote I commented on a little odd. It's no surprise that there are a lot of users who seem to hate on TouchArcade and come up with a million and one reasons to fuel that hate...yet they can't stay away. I haven't been following your posts on the matter and was just curious. You explained yourself well and that's cool with me. Oh, and before anyone gives me any crap for bringing this up, while being a moderator and whatever, I have a couple of comments: 1) I'm a gamer and a visitor of the site first and foremost, and I don't represent TouchArcade and they don't represent me. That said, it's still the coolest thing in the world to say "I'm kinda, sorta associated with TouchArcade" and I wear that Moderator badge proudly. 2) My feelings on the matter haven't changed. That MANOS review is still, and forever will be...a joke. Shhhh...I can't say I give two turds about the LIMBO review either. CONSPIRACY THEORY: TOUCHAREPAID DUN LIEK GAMEZ WIF TAYTULZ IN CAPEETULS~! I've derailed enough. BACK TO ASPHALT 8!
Too late!!......................The damage is done!!!!!.............. I may have to report you for off topic posts. (joking of course)
You are incorrect about the 5 stars to RR3. http://toucharcade.com/2013/02/27/real-racing-3-review-vastly-raising-the-graphical-bar-while-adding-loads-of-timers-and-iap/
