Yes Jerutix, thanks for that... Interesting tale.

Just a thought, but have you sent any press kits or anything of the sort to any gaming media sites? Best to get the word out there sooner than later, ya know ;)

I am rubbish at marketing. I really am. I just want to make games!

Case in point - if you guys hadn't said something TA would never have reviewed my last game!

Having said that, I've been doing this for about four years now :O

I have some great relationships with people from many websites who are really kind and generous and give me some exposure, for which I'm always grateful!

The trick is, I think, to treat people like people :)

Don't worry, once I've finished the game I'll be very busy making a video, sending out a press release, talking about the game on these forums, other forums, social media etc etc

But I have to finish first! :)

    w00t! :D

(p.s. - send me more screenshots!)

    Hello!

Just thought I'd post this for you for #screenshotsaturday

It shows off two unlockable thingies.

The first is 'Ultimate' mode. This is unlocked when you reach lvl 91 so it's pretty much near the end of the game.

I think I've mentioned it before, but it 'locks' the platforms in position throughout the whole game for the retro purists among you :)

The second unlockable you can see is 'Living Colour'. This is the extra colour mode after 'Stargate'.

It's been a secret up to now, but there you go. Now you know what it is. It basically drops the monochrome look and lets me give individual items a particular colour (in this example, the yellow ground, the green platforms, the red particles, pink FUEL instead of sheep).

I think it really actually adds something to the game. And it's a nice change/addition to the Air Supply legend!

I hope you'll enjoy them both!

Right, back to sleep. Then more work when I get up.

If I haven't melted by then!

    Have a great weekend all!

Holy Guacamole! There's more than one color in that screenshot! *head explodes*

Also, glad to hear you have a little bit of a plan when it comes to marketing :D

Hopefully TA will review this one right off the bat this time around

    It's crazy, right? :D

Had lots of very positive feedback from that one screenshot which is lovely!

To be clear, it's the 10th colour option - you get the normal white/red/blue/green etc etc, then the 'stargate' (which is all the colours cycling quickly) - as normal! THEN you get the 'Living Colour' option, which is new, and what you're seeing above :D

I've always tried to give as much value to my games as possible. The way the game are designed, the more you play the game the more options are available the more you (hopefully!) want to play ;)

To be fair, the marketing plan is exactly the same as all my other marketing plans! :O

Like I said, I'm not very good at marketing!

The wild card is you lot. Yes you! I'm pointing right at you!

    *points*

I hope that when you play the game you'll see just how much your support means to me :)

A TA review would be very lovely indeed and leave a warm fuzzy feeling in my sheepy heart! But there's no guarantee of that, or of being featured by Apple, which would be awesome of course.

I have to assume that nothing will go my way and that only you lot will try it! And that's ok! I'm already thinking about the next 20 games I'd like to make, and of how I can try and spread the risk and carry on doing this stuff while remaining true to my principles, ethics and self-imposed standards!

Having said that, this is kinda my SOS to the world. If you like retro style games. If you're tired of IAP and free to play games. If you don't want ads in your games. If you'd rather pay for a game outright and know that I won't try and rinse you for more money over and over again. If you want a game made with real sheepy love... then please try my game! :)

    *sheepyhugs all round*

    *curtsies*

    How kind!

I went on a bit of a rant there. Sorry. I just personally, as a gamer, don't like the way that particular business model is implemented.

I just wrote a huge rant about it and had to delete it. It does get my goat a bit and I went on for several paragraphs!

You can thank me for deleting all that!

Or, if you really want to see it, you can pay an extra $.99 per paragraph! ;)

Back to the game - I'm just implementing/testing the 'continue' option right now, as well as working out how to count the amount of levels you've successfully beaten without dying (for Survival mode - that could be a leaderboard stat for example!).

Hoping to send out a new build to testers tonight to check it works! Progress is being made!

    Cheers!

    Hey all, hope you're well!

The continue system is in and working (as far as I can tell) but I'm not sure about something so wanted to ask you guys what you thought!

Get a cup of tea and your thinking caps if you'd be so kind!

    Back? Yay! :D

The design for the 'Continue' feature was done so that you could progress through the game easier. Say you died on wave 29 - you'd normally have to 'Retry' the wave, or start that whole planet again when coming back to the game (in this case, from wave 21).

I wanted to let people stop playing knowing that they can get back to the wave they reached. If I beat wave 29, I can leave the game and start from wave 30.

So, here's how the continue system works.

When you complete a wave I save your score and the level number +1.

So if you've completed wave 12, when you press continue on the start screen you'll go straight to wave 13 with your score intact.

If you fail a wave, you have two options:
    1. Retry - sets your score to 0
    2. Go back to main menu

Same example as before - if you beat wave 12 and continue, then you would start on wave 13 with score intact of course.

But if you then die on wave 13 you can retry wave 13 with 0 score, or go back to the main menu where you can continue from wave 13 again, but with your score intact.

Does any of this make sense? Its' hurting my brain a bit :O

Anyway, the issue is that this kind of makes 'retry' redundant.

I imagine people will, if they die during a wave, choose 'go back to main menu', then 'continue' so that they start on wave 13 with their score intact, instead of using retry and losing their score.

My solution is to make it that if you fail a wave, and press either 'retry' or 'main menu' then your score goes to 0 either way.

Sorry to bother you with this, I should be working this out myself. After all, that's why they pay me the big bucks... oh, wait! :O

    TL;DR:

    1. If you're doing well, your score keeps going up and you can stop and continue later from the last wave you reached with your score intact.
    2. If you die, your score goes back to 0 but you can still continue from the last wave you beat, even if you leave the game.

Does this sound fair? I'm thinking it will allow people doing badly to still progress, but rewards players doing will with a higher score.

I'll be asking my testers to consider this too, but would love to hear what your thoughts on the matter are?

    Cheers in advance!

I think what you are describing is what I expected. Let me re-explain back to you what I think you are saying/what I anticipated.

    1. If you are playing and decide to stop, you can retain your score and continue from either the exact place you stopped or from the beginning of the level you are on.

    2. If you die, you have two options:
    a) Hit continue, stay on the same level, but have a 0 score.
    b) Return to main menu, start back from the beginning? or start back from the most recent 1 level (1, 11, 21, etc.)? with a 0 score.

    Yep, that's pretty much it.

There are 10 waves per planet - so if you died on wave 29 and then shut down the game, you would normally have to play through waves 21-28 to get back to that point.

The way it currently works is that you can now carry on from wave 29, but your score will be 0.

It basically lets you carry on from where you died, but without your score!

    Nice, dude!

(FORGIVE ME! I COULDN'T HELP MYSELF!)

And thanks for playing my game! :D

There certainly is! I'm busy making it right now! Except I'll be going to bed in a few mins. It's gone 6am here and I've been busy testing all night! :O

SOS will actually be the third Air Supply game. You might have missed the second one, Air Supply - Infinite which got a lovely 4/5 score on this very site if you're anxious to play more!

Each game is different to the last, but with some common themes/locations/characters/mechanics that tie them all together in the same universe and make them an Air Supply game!

There will certainly be more. But again, each new one will be different to the last. That's the plan anyway. I think I need to make some 'not Air Supply' games first.

Got to finish this one though!

    Just a quick update!

Hey all, hope you're having a fun weekend :D

Just a quick update - I've been really busy, and working hard, but having lots of fun too!

I sent off the latest build to my lovely testers on Friday, and got some useful feedback which has gone straight into the game.

One person mentioned they didn't like the teleporters much and asked if I could put in a perk that got rid of them.

So now there's an extra perk in the game. Except that would make it 13 perks.

So I added another 3 as well, bringing the total up to 16 :O

    Here's a sneak peek:

Additionally, I'm working full time on the bosses now. You've seen one before, but here's a new one for you (and just for you lot right now!)

Very excited. It's been a real challenge throughout the making of this game to get the bosses to appear where and when they're supposed to.

I think *touches wood* that I've cracked it.

    Onwards!

    Thank you sir! :)

Here's a look at the proposed first boss, 'Gary' :D

He's just the first one so will be relatively simple to kill! Just nine more to go!

Yep, love all of the above including the scoring. Still, cannot wait. A boss called Gary too is also quite genius. Not enough Garys these days.

Crikey - sorry it's been a few days - I've been v.busy working on this of course!

Just wanted to inform you of a weird thing that happened on the original iPad I have.

I was playing SOS for about 20 minutes and I had a crash.

Unfortunately, it looks like older devices may struggle a little with SOS.

It's certainly still very playable on an original iPad, but if I'm going to sleep ok with a clear conscience I will of course make sure to recommend iPad 2 and above for better performance.

    However, something cool kinda happened.

The way I've implemented the 'continue' feature meant that even though the game did unfortunately crash, I didn't lose any progress!

Relaunching the game I was able to get back to the level I was on previously with no loss of progress/score.

I was kinda happy about that!

Hope you have a lovely weekend!
