Isn't this the game that was out for the Sega Mega CD ages ago? Back when "movie-games" where all the rage. theunis Well-Known Member Oct 27, 2010 248 0 0 #4 theunis, Jan 14, 2011 Its 70% off which means the game wil cost roughly 3-4 dollars next week I'm guessing but I dont understand the gamplay, do I just swipe left/right hen that green arrow appears by the car HUD, and then watch a cinematic scene (as Gabrien said), or do I actually drive and kill stuff ? I hope you not right Leegames cause for four dollars I think its pretty awful if thats how the game is - but I haven played it so if anyone has impressions love to hear them Bad Hanson Well-Known Member Apr 13, 2009 513 0 0 Somnambulist The Westcountry UK #5 Bad Hanson, Jan 14, 2011 Last edited: Jan 14, 2011 Dragons Lair on wheels by the looks...and what's with those impressions -highly dubious!...I'm not buying it. zilog Member Nov 18, 2010 21 0 0 #6 zilog, Jan 14, 2011 A real shame cos when I first saw the screenshots I thought - they've found a way to render game graphics to look like a crappy 80's cartoon! I know this game and it's totally the same game as Dragon's lair and another game with a copter can't remember the game ! So it's more a movie than a game and it's totally lack of gameplay. ImNoSuperMan Well-Known Member Jun 28, 2009 10,506 19 0 #9 ImNoSuperMan, Jan 14, 2011 Wow. It didnt hit you that it might be a joke? Anyways, if its still not clear, YES, Those impressions are a joke. If they wanted to add shill impressions, they'd have chosen better names. Seriously, DeeCast, ukibear359, Retina69 and itelligent didnt give it away? As far as the gameplay type is concerned, it can be described as On Rails. They already have another Sega CD game out in the appstore - Cobra Command. Check out the review and forum thread to get a bit more idea on how these games work. Revolutionary Concepts Well-Known Member Nov 12, 2009 602 0 0 #10 Revolutionary Concepts, Jan 14, 2011 It's a recreation of a cult classic LASERDISC game folks. Not for everyone but that's the point. Diversity and catering to a wide range of tastes. If it's not for you or you personally don't want to try at any price that's cool, there's plenty of apps out there for everyone For those that do remember the original fondly or have a love of retro classics, or are intrigued by the art form/history of making games (or have actually played this version), they will probably be able to appreciate it for what it is; a balls out crazy marriage of japanese anime and gaming from an altogether different time that has a special place in history and still has the capacity to delight 30+ years on! The game JUST came out so of course the feedback is from those who've been kind enough to take it the beta for a spin! We're delighted with their comments but soon enough we'll post feedback from more recognisable industry bods. Cobra Command and Karate Champ were both perfect, and my instincts are telling me that this one will be as well. And HA HA HA at the youngsters talking about "control vs watching" in a Laserdisc game... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!! Ironically, Cobra Command had great controls (the iOS adaption), even though one is not "controlling" any of the filmed action in a laserdisc game! uh - any chance of ever seeing a tweaked "updated control" version of STAR RIDER?! It really is the next logical step, and still breaks my heart that it hasn't been emulated / re-released. I'm afraid the only people that could do it right are you guys. The arcade cabinet (there's one here in Hawaii) doesn't play nicely, the turns / centrifugal force is/are too much, but again this is something that you guys have successfully demonstrated (with COBRA COMMAND) that the gameplay can be significantly tweaked / improved. I don't know how much legal hassle it would be to get the licence (as Williams is quite dead, and I'm fairly certain MIDWAY is as well), but it would be WORTH IT. Again, it all comes down to making the bike not get thrown to the outside of the track with every turn, the only weak spot of the original arcade version. Sure, time hasn't been kind to STAR RIDER, but one can argue that it hasn't been kind to ROAD BLASTER (the original) as well - but somehow the Star Rider machine here in HI continues to swallow up dollars like some kind of monster... In all seriousness it's all good as we feel privileged to be in a position where every other release we can have fun mix it up and try different things - and if that means restoring some of our fave niche titles along the way (for ourselves as much as gamers like yourself) then all the better Ahh yes StarRider it's all coming back to me now. I remember that and Galaxian (cubed). As a kid that was like stepping into the movie 'The Last Starfighter'. (end flashback sequence). Unfortunately we have a fair number of as yet unannounced all new titles in the works and so I doubt we could get to it ourselves, but we're seeing a lot of demand for those kind of nostalgic re-releases so chances are if there's sufficient interest or someone can think of a way to breath new life into it it'll get done! I'll buy a copy and you will so hey there's two sold All the best! J'Star Well-Known Member Apr 8, 2009 179 0 0 App-forums.proboards.com Palm Beach Florida #18 J'Star, Jan 14, 2011 Great, great game There is a TON of gameplay here, lots of long levels, gamecenter leader boards and achievements. This game is priced ridiculously low for the quality, polish and game time. You can either tilt the device OR use the cockpit mode, steering wheel and turbo/brake. (which work perfectly). Revolutionary Concepts kick a**, keep up the great work ! (And yes, it plays out like a cartoon movie, but you are always interacting). And, on the edge of your seat. I never played Road Blaster, but I spent a boatload of quarters on Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. Ultimately, these are reaction/memorization games with really cool visuals. As long as we're requesting revivals, let suggest one of the last from the laser-disk era (and a personal favorite): Cliffhanger. About half the game is drawn from Castle of Cagliostro, one of Hayao Miyazaki's most entertaining films, and unlike other laser-disk games it had a full cast of memorable characters -- not to mention jaw-dropping animation and great jazzy music. Sadly, the one cabinet in my neighborhood was taken away before I could finish the game (I made it about 3/4 into it), so I would love an iOS version if only so I can beat the darned thing . I'll be picking this one when it hits the US... (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
