Don’t really need to post impressions for this. While it takes inspiration from Downwell, there’s really nothing like it on the App Store. This game is as fun as I was hoping. I can tell it will have lasting appeal just like it’s inspiration. Speaking of which, this is such a different game than Downwell but you used familiar mechanics in all the right places. Great work. Just one question: do I want to try to block right when a projectile hits the shield? Or can you still block when it’s in the circle? blabberf likes this. blabberf Well-Known Member Apr 21, 2020 47 51 18 #8 blabberf, Aug 2, 2020 Thank you again I definitely didn't want to just copy Downwell exactly! I thought it was interesting how the developer said he was inspired by Spelunky, and I can see the Spelunky influences even though it's a much different game. I wanted to achieve a similar kinda thing. And you can block at any time that projectiles are within the circle! sebgo and Anotherkellydown like this. Perhaps that’s silly, but I don’t care because I NEED TO UNLOCK JUST ONE MORE COLOR!!!!!! ———————•........•——————- Ok so maybe the timeline wasn’t necessary but truthfully this is a fun and addicting game that is easy to fall into. I love how enemies have [2] different attack patterns and timing isn't always the same, so it keeps the player on their toes all the time. And what with the crazy amount of different weapons and upgrades? I personally like this better than Downwell, even though they're totally different games (but the inspiration is there), mostly because Gun Rounds is way more friendly, due to its turn based nature and touch controls being mostly fool-proof, an aspect in which Downwell may not be as forgiving and demands more skill and getting used to (especially if you want to rack up a high score) because it's, well, a real time action game of sorts. Simply put, I don't see myself willing to go for another round in Downwell as much as I do in this new game (25 games in a row, it seems). Good job! Ps: Sometimes, I'd like to get the upgrade in the back without shooting the one in the foreground first. blabberf and W8rd3 like this. sebgo Well-Known Member Dec 26, 2010 835 399 63 Male 95% leisure. I was thinking that, maybe, a turns/shots counter could be implemented to each run stats? Like, there's been a few times in which I've used the right weapon to defeat all enemies on screen with a single shot (lucky shots with the lightning or bubbles). Also, it'd be great having a "Replay" button to go back to the action faster, directly from the Game Over screen. That way, players won't be taken back to the main menu. I'm surprised at the fact that, after 40+ runs, I'm still coming across new weapons and/or upgrades! Love the boomerang. I would've never imagined reading with my own 2 eyes that someone likes my game better than Downwell. Thank you so much for the praise!! And I hear you about the item purchasing, I couldn't really think of a good way to make it work other than make the item in front free. Maybe I could make it so the shopkeep just gives you the free sample when you arrive? I'd worry that it wouldn't be clear to the player what's happening though. That's super cool, I love your palette choice, and I see you got the demon skull + contract! That combination is killer! And thank you for the suggestions, those are excellent and I'll definitely see what I can do for updates sebgo likes this. sebgo Well-Known Member Dec 26, 2010 835 399 63 Male 95% leisure. That game is hard for me even with physical controllers. About the shop, now I think it's ok the way it currently is. After all, that recovery item is... always free (I haven't made it to the third shop yet, so maybe that guy will actually charge me for it! [Which I'd consider the most appropriate he he he]). I stuck to the Caution palette, even though I've unlocked up to the 29th palette so far. It's the one I've liked the most, as you can see. ⚠️ Again, thanks for this piece of fun. They’re incomparable and yes, there is no denying Downwell is an absolute classic (as @Rocco SE said), but I’ve always taken issue with Downwell’s portrait controls on iPhones. Again, incomparable, but you’ve not only nailed the concept and implementation of said concept, but the controls, too, are impeccable. Nothing but praise for the overall package. Literally the only thing I can nitpick about is I would rather have “Gun Rounds” and not “GunRounds” under the app icon on my device. sebgo likes this. sebgo Well-Known Member Dec 26, 2010 835 399 63 Male 95% leisure.
