This is absolutely superb. Unlocked the second stage on regular mode and I can see that this game is not going to be a walk in the park by any stretch. Going to try and avoid going casual and ruining it for myself. Little slowdown here and there on iPhone XS (as well as it completely crashing and never loading on 4th gen iPad, but whatever) but nothing game breaking. NathanMeunier likes this. Yeah, the texture/art assets are super high resolution, so sometimes there are minor blips (It pushes 60 FPS 99.5 percent of the time). I fully expect it probably won't run on older hardware because of that, but glad to hear it's mostly jiving! Cheers! -Nathan Gotters Well-Known Member Oct 27, 2016 114 31 28 #6 Gotters, Jan 10, 2019 really enjoying this - its very hard but the controls and physics are so perfect and satisfying it doesn't annoy me in the same way a touch screen 'meat boy' style platformer does - I particularly like the satisfying bounce you can do right up near a wall, like a squash shot. finished the first level - I'm not convinced the lvl 3 bigger weightier ball unlock gives any advantage over the smaller faster one ? Yes, some of the unlocks are useful, others are just weird, and a few just cosmetic. The larger Pung isn't necessarily easier or better, but it can be useful in a few later levels. I figured I'd give people an option to have a slightly different feeling character in case it suited some play styles. But yeah, there's no real benefit to him. One of the later unlocks does give you a temporary shield at the start of each new wave, and that's super useful later on. If you have a sec to leave a quick rating and review on the App Store, that'd be amazing and much appreciated. Thanks! Cheers! Anotherkellydown likes this. That’s the vibe I get when watching the video for this game, which is a very good thing. I’m hoping I’ll be able to buy this tonight - looking forward to some high score competition later! In the meantime, I’ll let y’all get some more practice. Anotherkellydown likes this. The first day I got it I had the word DUNKYPUNG stuck in my head all day. What an awesome name, sounds a little like DONKEY KONG I also love how you voiced the game and how many different vocal variations there are. Very charming Close to hitting that 10,000 points goal on level 1. Having a heck of a time beating level 2, though I’ve gotten close a couple times. This is really tough! I left a short App Store review yesterday. I’m hoping you have enough requests to implement Game Center leaderboards for individual levels. Loving it as is though and hoping to get my butt kicked by Andy C83 ASAP. NathanMeunier likes this. NathanMeunier Well-Known Member Apr 27, 2017 85 6 8 Freelance Writer / Indie Dev #11 NathanMeunier, Jan 11, 2019 Awww, thanks a bunch!!! Really appreciate it, as every review helps. I'm really grateful that people seem to be enjoying the game despite it being insanely hard. Def stick with it, though! I've found it's the kind of thing where the more you play and come back to it after taking a break, the better you eventually get. It helps, when I'm playing, to sort of be thinking a few steps ahead of where the ball is. I sort of pick a path and kind of aim for that, and then adjust on the fly as surprises pop-up. Also, it can be useful if you're just trying to stay alive and beat a level to not worry so much about the score stuff right away... I usually separate my runs and focus on either score chasing OR trying to just stay alive long enough to beat the level. If you do both at the same time it's very easy to die by accident. I feel like I probably made a mistake by not making this game F2P with ads+an option to pay to get rid of them. From what I've heard from other devs, a lot of people who play these types of games are used to not paying. Compared to my last game, Missile Cards, DUNKYPUNG is doing WAY WAY less sales-wise. Which is a bummer, because people seem to genuinely dig it. Making games is damn tough. Making games AND making a living is a lot tougher. Whew. I'm still only doing this very part-time. In any event, thanks for the support everyone! Hopefully I'll have some more projects out later this year! Quoad Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2015 1,108 217 63 #12 Quoad, Jan 11, 2019 I think there's a sort of double-bind here. You'd definitely widen your base of players. And, tbf, would increase revenue through ad sales. On the other hand, those of us who will literally only play premium apps (and who I guess may be more likely to pay) might not touch it, if it was f2p. Hands up this end, I skirted this initially, because at a look I thought it'd be F2P. It was only when I saw a price attached that I looked into it a bit more closely, and went for it. As an aside - I assume you can't *also* release a free version with ads / an unlock? I don't know how many of those who've already bought it would object to that kinda model - I certainly wouldn't, because I wouldn't touch the F2P version anyhows. (And tbf, if anyone did object, they could still reclaim a refund. So long as it's within the first couple of weeks following release.) Edit: in contrast, I very much doubt that anyone would have mistaken Missile Cards for an F2P. Which probably makes it very clear which market you were aiming for, for those (very few of us) who are specifically interested in premium titles. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #13 metalcasket, Jan 11, 2019 I think the game would’ve worked out as an ad supported + IAP unlock game, and I would’ve supported you regardless, but I can say that having it be a premium title makes it feel special, and it doesn’t feel like a throwaway game. I hope that amounts to something. Gotters Well-Known Member Oct 27, 2016 114 31 28 #14 Gotters, Jan 11, 2019 Its a hard game to sell from the video trailer too - I almost passed on it as you don't get how good it feels from just a vid - plus the whole 'this is the hardest game ever' schtick sort of pitches it alongside all the ad supported free tat in the store, but with a £3 price. Did you ever think about putting the score/progression stuff at the bottom of the screen at the top, sort of bothers me I'm tapping on that space and there is an empty space it would fit into up the top ?
