As long as you're interested in those aspects, I think you'll love it. The sprite art is some of the best I've ever seen on the app store. It's reminiscent of FFT. The story is quite interesting and there's lots and lots of replayability to get all the items on a map. I think it's a rare mix of JRPG and a board game that goes really well. Once you play the trial levels, you'll be blown away by the quality immediately. I wish we could see more games like this. I backed Unsung Story (Kickstarter) as a spiritual sequel to FFT but even after the failed project got picked up again, the art got completely remodeled into a generic 3D mobile app design / WoW look - and I wish they made the art design look EXACTLY like ReversiQuest2. I'm not finished with the game so I can't give a complete review but it really is incredible that we can get premium games like this. The only negative for me honestly is the App Icon (Too zoomed-in and isn't eye-catching like the game logo artwork) nyanpass and Pagan Fox like this. nyanpass Well-Known Member Dec 30, 2017 3,374 1,043 113 #6 nyanpass, Nov 19, 2018 Reversi Quest2 is inspired by TacticsOgre and reminds me of FFT too. The biggest gripe which is a personal preference and clearly made this way for strategic purposes is you can only have 1 piece of equipment on. So you have to choose if you want a weapon, an armor or in some cases a shield. Basically you either have naked people running around with weapons or clothes people running around punching things. Which on a strategi stand point makes things a little more in depth but character wise, realistically not realistic (yes I know what I did there) which I wish I had known before spending that 500 gold on the option to equip shields, never would have bought that. But so far gold not like an issue or anything it’s not like I haven’t run across much to spend it on. It’s definitely a premium game but them originally thinking of making it f2p with iap is clearly visible by double currencies and having caps on how many of each unit you can bring in a group that goes up slowly as you lvl up just like in 90% of all f2p gachas. The game already caps you by saying you can bring x/x amount of each character it doesn’t need a second cap on top of it. I’d still recommend it if you like unique strategy RPGs besides it’s free to try with a iap for full game later so you have nothing to lose but time. L.Lawliet Well-Known Member Jun 28, 2011 6,405 420 83 #12 L.Lawliet, Nov 19, 2018 I'm pretty sure the caps aren't necessarily a f2p mechanic but actually a mechanic to keep you from over leveling. Just like how you can only reach a certain character level until the game let's you unlock past it. If you were allowed to load up as many units as possible with no cost it lowers the strategy aspect and you can increase your stats by filling your party with max members + stat equipment boosters. I actually think this kind of cap is normal on a JRPG game. Most of them give you upgrades as you level up. I don't think it would make sense to give you all the abilities right from the start. nyanpass likes this. Full Version $7.99 Fast forwarding $5.99 The Complete Pack $12.99 Halved Crystal Consumption $5.99 Fast Forward + Halved Crystal $7.99 The only iap I’ve seen so far is the Full Version price after finishing the prologue. I definitely like the game enough to buy it, but the above iap’s leave me scratching my head a bit. I would appreciate if somebody could helpfully explain if they are the remnants of a f2p system or are they still part of the game. stubbieoz likes this. nyanpass Well-Known Member Dec 30, 2017 3,374 1,043 113 #14 nyanpass, Nov 20, 2018 [Interview] How "Reversi Quest 2" made art of "Tactics Ogre like" - What I aimed for is the beautiful memories about SFC pixel art graphics games. http://www.gamecast-blog.com/archives/65930532.html The original article is Japanese. (Rough Translation) Finally, "Reversi Quest 2" released on both iOS / Android. Reversi + RPG's original system has been handed over from the previous work, but the remarkable point of this work is in "Tactics Ogre" style art. In the review of the preceding released Google Play version, some players say "it is a copy", but it is obviously different if you actually arrange the dot picture of two works. However, the player feels strongly "Tactics Ogre" in the art of this work ... why? This time, I have asked Mr. Ryo Tazaki of YOKOGOSYSTEM who developed and asked "How to make Tactics Ogre like" and the point of art of this work. @gamecast : Thank you for your time today. As soon as possible, why did you make Reversi Quest 2, why did you adopt "Tactics Ogre" style art, would you please tell me again? @Ryoht (Tasaki) : Originally, when I saw the art of "Tactics Ogre", I went to the game industry with the impact of Akihiko Yoshida's dot picture, so I wanted to play a game of art of that direction once. I have been involved in art since I joined the company "Spectral Force 2" as an idea factory with dots but there was no chance of doing it in commercial. By all means I wanted to make games with art respecting Ogres in a serious way like "Tactics Ogre" and "Vagrant Story". @gamecast : Does "FF Tactics" etc. become a successor? @Ryoht (Tasaki) : "FF Tactics" was deformed touch, and "Tactics Ogre Gaiden" etc. that came out with other hards are not Yoshida san, so it is different. Yoshida's picture is a dot picture, but there is a touch of a picture. It may not be noticed if an ordinary person sees it, but if a person who understands a picture sees it is "a bit different". It looks real but it has a buttered looking line. If it collapses for a while it becomes like a western gee, Japanese will not accept it. I can not imitate with my own power, and in a nuts I feel a difference in talent. However, this time I challenged with a picture of my own limit. @gamecast : Yoshida-san ... God knows. I am a "legendary Ogre Battle" faction. However, although it says "I feel the difference in talent," the sense of "Tactics Ogre" was oozing out from the game screen of "Reversi Quest 2". I think that it is "Super Nintendo (Sufami) style" and it has succeeded in making "Ogre style" art. @Ryoht (Tasaki) : But in fact it is not "reproducing" at all. For the application, not "reproduce Super Famicom" but aimed at "Super Fami in everyone's memory." @gamecast : Sufami in memory? @Ryoht (Tasaki) : Although Sufami is deified to be deified and has an impression that it was "pretty beautiful", there are also places where it is quite shabby to look now. There was a place where the television of the time was seen beautifully from (*) which was bleeding, and there is also a place beautifying in memory. (* At that time TV was not able to display dots in a square and it was beautiful, so the dot picture was made on the premise of bleeding) @gamecast : Good old memories that will be fostered over time. Still, it is reproduced even in the game, but the start of the game which moves to the menu with the mosaic actually taken from the title and the enlargement / reduction were nostalgic and it was good (lol) @Ryoht (Tasaki) : Actually, it is made finely and cleanly than Sufami of the time. If it keeps fitting as it is, it will be shorter than "memories that were impressed at the time". @gamecast : Ohhh ... well, if you say so. At the same time with the taste at the time, is the beauty that added the beauty of the memory of those days is "suufami-like". @Ryoht (Tasaki) : That's what I meant. The color to be used for the dot is limited (* Hard at that time had a large limit on the number of colors that can be used simultaneously with the colors that can be used), but that is not within the limit of Super Famicom. I am making music with a superfamic sound source, but it is easy to become a shovel when it is really Sufami itself, so it is "like it but gorgeous". @gamecast : It is about "TV bleeding" before, but is there any difficult place such as hard difference etc? For example, playing with the current smartphone makes the dot sharper. @Ryoht (Tasaki) : Once, we cover it with a filter. In iOS, bleeding filter is ON with standard setting. Try turning off the filter when it is sharp. @gamecast : I got accustomed to the recent dot picture and became fond of sharpness, so it can be helpful to turn it off. @Ryoht (Tasaki) : Also, there are things that smartphones are automatically enlarged and displayed depending on the model .... It was hard to respond by specifying the magnification in detail depending on the model. The dot picture game will collapse if the dots making up the picture do not hold a square even if it is enlarged. @gamecast : I often hear from those who value dot painting. @Ryoht (Tasaki) : But it is only myself who care about the square, and it does not bother me even if it is not a little square from the player. As everything is multiplied by an integer, something hard to play depends on the model this time. So, we are making strict models and models that are displayed in easy-to-play sizes. @gamecast : It is "Su Famici style" to the last, it is not "super Famic". Somehow, even though it was "Ogre like" at the beginning, I feel that the hint of "It is not a copy, a completely different thing" has come to be seen. @Ryoht (Tasaki) : Initially, the dot picture of "Tactics Ogre" and "Reversi Quest 2" are completely different. @gamecast : Huh…! What? @Ryoht (Tasaki) : The picture of the difform character is different from the life style, it is all original. @gamecast : Otherwise, as for the map where the conversation takes place, "Tactics Ogre" was the terrain of the three-dimensional block ... .... "Reversi Quest 2" is a plane that is drawn ... @Ryoht (Tasaki) : The face picture "Tactics Ogre" is drawn in portrait. However, "Reversi Quest 2" is drawn in a square. @gamecast : Face paintings are similar in taste, but when you compare it, the usage and flatness of light are different ...! However, when you actually see the game, we feel "Tactics Ogre" in what is different only this way. Looking at the earlier Google Play review, there are things that are being received like 'This is a copy'. @Ryoht (Tasaki) : It is in a sense that the aim is too much hit, or it is also a painful place ... ... (bitter smile) I am thinking that Mr. Yoshida's real tone painting which I was shocked a long time ago is at the top of the dot picture at the time. So, what I was aiming for was a dot picture with a real taste like "Tactics Ogre" and I wanted to play a serious story game that matched it. @gamecast : In comparison, the dot picture is different ... Why do we feel this "tactic ogre" taste? @Ryoht (Tasaki) : I think there are things that stick to the part that does not hold as a business. For example, in dot games, fonts are very smooth. Though that should originally use dot font fonts, there are many places that are unnaturally smooth on the business side. I dislike it and made the font a dot picture, but as a hindrance to it, Chinese correspondence is hopeless (laugh) @gamecast : Is it different from ordinary dot fonts? @Ryoht (Tasaki) : I agree. For fonts there is a dot free font. It is made up of one color. However, "Reversi Quest 2" has a two color composition so that it looks smoother but dots. "Tactics Ogre" is one of the few games that you do with Super Famicom. It is smooth, but it does not make much sense when thinking about business. @gamecast : I was able to make that decision well in the era when "It seems likely to be in China because Japan can not get profitable." @Ryoht (Tasaki) : Is not that like an indie game? Especially, indie game not made at work (laugh). The more you bend the bend, the more it will be the same as the other works. @gamecast : Is even better? I understand that it feels taste because the font is close, but with regard to the terrain it is completely different on the wide and flat ground of "Tactics Ogre" 3-D block and "Reversi Quest 2". Why is there someone who can see the feeling of "Tactics Ogre" or building the Ogre like style of the terrain, that is the most strange .... @Ryoht (Tasaki) : Actually, regarding the background, I am not conscious of "Tactics Ogre". I think that it is the difference of drawing after all. Parts that can be used for anything, such as profitable lines to do in the commercial or common parts of the RPG game, do not have more than a certain amount of drawing. When I draw it over a certain amount, I remember the good old Super Fami in memory and seems to look like "Tactics Ogre". @gamecast : Well, some of the games I know are drawn in the same way, but the terrain of "Reversi Quest 2" seems to be somewhat different ... It seems persistent. @Ryoht (Tasaki) : It may be the difference in the way the light source is designed. In a general quarter-view game, you make the top of the block brighter, the left and right sides are second and third darker. "Tactics Ogre" is bright on the right side, the second on the top and the darkest on the left. "Reversi Quest 2" also applies the light source in the same way. @gamecast : Indeed, if it's an ordinary game, let's stand out at the top with the character riding. However, "Tactics Ogre" was hitting light towards real ... ...! What? @Ryoht (Tasaki) : If there is, it is there. If you think that it is like "Tactics Ogre", you are hitting the aim and I'd be happy if you think that you are reproducing your own "taste in that memorable" that is now discontinued. @gamecast : As I told you, it feels like that. Or, it has become fun to play while finding the difference (lol) There is another question about the contents of the game this time, but the game content has no sense of "Tactics Ogre" at all. Why is this? @Ryoht (Tasaki) : Bringing the taste of dot painting, there is no meaning to make it in Indy as original copy gets lost when it becomes system copy. I believe that it is more complex than the first "Reversi Quest" and that people who understand it make it. @gamecast : Thank you very much. I think that you can enjoy downloading and enjoying the system part because it is free of experience, but please tell us the attractions of attention to those who are planning to play now. @Ryoht (Tasaki) : Since each character's past scene is dedicated to drawing dots, I would like you to see it. Basically I write a story by myself, but the story of the past event has asked those who are cooperating in the production. When writing by yourself, develop a story in an existing place so that you can avoid painting with inserting a new scene. But, for others, I do not care about that. "I made it like this" Wait, I have to draw it already (laugh) With that feeling, a dedicated scene grew rapidly. @gamecast : It's too hard (lol) However, as a way of playing it is good to increase the diorama of dot picture ... ....Last but not least, what happens to Mr. Tazaki's next work with a work of "Ogre style" that was a dream from the time he entered the industry? @Ryoht (Tasaki) : The real length dot picture is not popular because there is no business need right now and I am satisfied that I was able to challenge indies. Well, I think that I did not tell Mr. Yoshida until I arrived, but I did what I can do now. Since "Reversi Quest 2" has not been made yet until the end, I will make it until the end. If I make the next work on that, then I think that I would like to take a slightly different approach. I like dot picture because I like to dot, but there are lots of games that are not just dots. I have to invent something, so what shall I do. It is in the trial stage. @gamecast : Now that I realized my dream, I will fly to the original direction ... and. I am also looking forward to the next work. Nonetheless, I'd like to take a look at the past scenes of "Diver Pictures of Reversi Quest 2" while paying attention to what I saw during the interview. @Ryoht (Tasaki) : Also, I'm also doing art at Steam and Nintendo Switch 's "BLACK BIRD" shooter game. To that also, thank you. @gamecast : Greedy (lol) However, it is also interesting, I review it with a game cast, and I will put it together with the recommendation. (Shooting "Black Bird" review discovered and improved like RPG) Well then, thank you for today. Due to the impact of this game and articles, I would like more real dots in Japan influenced by "Tactics Ogre" ...! * That's all. I think that there are many people who were paying attention to "Tactics Ogre" style art, but paying attention to the part as written in this article, "What is Tactics Ogre style (probably still secret is hidden "Where is the difference?" When you look at it, I think that "Reversi Quest 2" can be enjoyed even more. I would like you to enjoy the world of this art by all means! stubbieoz Well-Known Member Jun 23, 2015 1,880 358 83 Male Grey haired gamer NSW Australia #15 stubbieoz, Nov 20, 2018 I’m struggling with the mechanics of the combat system myself. L.Lawliet Well-Known Member Jun 28, 2011 6,405 420 83 #20 L.Lawliet, Nov 21, 2018 I actually haven't even played Othello myself but learned how to play from this game. The tutorial did a decent job of teaching me and I learned the extra RPG mechanics through trial and error. I can try to help you if you have some questions about how to play. Luckily, the game shows you exactly what moves will do what before you initiate your attack. You don't need to "guess" except to guess what your opponent will put down. Generally, turn as much of the board into your color as possible while also attacking the opponents HP. You can only hit the opponent's HP when you have two ATTACKERS flanked around enemy pieces. Same goes for healers. You need two HEALERS flanked around the enemy in order to heal yourself. That's the basic mechanic. You can flip enemies to your color without having them flanked by the same type, but it will just flip the enemy, it won't heal or attack their HP. This is signified by there being a colorless circle around the enemy pieces on the pre-attack phase. To use magic, you need to accumulate MP by flanking with two yellow MAGES. Then when you have enough MP, you tap your character piece with the magic skill (it will say'skill okay' or something on top of them) then select where you want the magic to appear on the map tiles (healing) or it can be an attack type and will instantly attack. These all have accuracy ratings so they can miss. Equipment stats took me more trouble to figure out. Equipping body armor is great because often it'll give you +1 HP to your character for each piece you have it equipped on. Same for attack boosts etc. I really love all the concepts they added to turn a simple board game into a complex RPG. (You must log in or sign up to post here.) On the way to his uncle's place in the Forest of Vallo, Nym saves a girl from a goblin. The girl's name is Imogen. Although she came to the Forest of Vallo for a certain purpose, she got separated from her friends and got attacked by goblins that usually should have stayed calm. This encounter will be changing the fate of Nym and Imogen tremendously... * Features - Retro SNES-like pixel art graphics and BGMs of the mid 90's The maps and characters drawn in quarter view remind us of those days that were full of games that were actually like video games. This is an incredible game that for me so far would be a GOTY contender. It's a quality JRPG mixed with Othello. The only negative for me honestly is the App Icon (Too zoomed-in and isn't eye-catching like the game logo artwork)
Reversi Quest2 is inspired by TacticsOgre and reminds me of FFT too. The game is quite exciting and has a lot of deep strategic elements. If you are interested in SRPG & board games, it's worth checking out.
Just downloaded it now. Tactics Ogre was one of my all time favourites, right up there or even better than FFTactics WoL. Looking forward to this.
i would have LOVED this if it had a different battle mechanic. The graphics and fonts are hitting all my TO/FFT nostalgia notes, but the battle mechanic.. i can't.
Actually this is really pretty awesome. Played just one hour but I’m super hooked...great blend of genres, reminds me a lot FFT as well. Great art style too.
It’s decent for what it is. Unique for sure. If fft was On snes, that’s what it looks like.
I'm pretty sure the caps aren't necessarily a f2p mechanic but actually a mechanic to keep you from over leveling.
In the (Australian) AppStore the iap descriptions are as follows...
[Interview] How "Reversi Quest 2" made art of "Tactics Ogre like" - What I aimed for is the beautiful memories about SFC pixel art graphics games. http://www.gamecast-blog.com/archives/65930532.html The original article is Japanese.
I’m struggling with the mechanics of the combat system myself. Not sure if it is because it is so different to the usual rpg turn based tactical games that I play or if I simply don’t “get it”. But I love the graphics and the game setting, not too sure about the one item equip limitation yet, but this sort of pay model for iOS, try a bit then a premium purchase, is one that I fully support. I just need to get my head around the combat before I hit the buy button....... though as mentioned above by Son of Anarchy....what buy button to get??
I actually haven't even played Othello myself but learned how to play from this game.
