Actually, you revive at your last save spot with all the “souls” you collected — the game is more generous than Dark Souls. However, enemies reset when you leave an area, so you still get “punished” by dying.
Don't worry about the download time. On my crappy 4Mbps (3.4, really >_>) connection it took no longer than 30 minutes.
With the internet he's got, I'd be desperate too. Although the truth is very impatient to download the game ando with the steelseries in the hand waiting to download it.
