The graphical style looks great. Trying this now ramzarules Well-Known Member Sep 13, 2014 2,112 128 63 Greece #3 ramzarules, Nov 8, 2014 Ok, i tried it! I have good impressions, it shows it was made with gusto! +i like the pixel slash/dash/bleed effects +i like that when you level up, you get a choice out of 3 upgrades, making it roguelike +i like the purchaseable weapons, though i found their prices steep especially the later ones. Also some don't make a lot of sense for a ninja (sabre?) Bonus point for starting the game and reminding me of an old dos prompt starting game. Also bonus points for the falling cherry blossoms when you die. My suggestions: 1)add a virtual joystick and action button control scheme for those of us who dont want our finger to be in the way of the action slashes 2)break it down into chapters, each with their different environments and enemies to be easier on the eye. and give a sense of accomplishment to the player (ie zen gardens, castles, oni and all that eastern mythology and scenery.) 3)add more weapons and maybe adjust the prices 4) add a super cool shrine in the middle of each chapter or so, giving you a powerup that changes a bit how you play Congrats for reading that far, and now : implement all those changes, and make it paid!!! if you think it is a good cost/benefit choice. I hope you succeed! Qwertz555 Well-Known Member May 22, 2010 2,318 29 48 #4 Qwertz555, Nov 8, 2014 Last edited: Nov 8, 2014 You can get rid of the ads at the end of the weapon upgrades. Imho, everything done right the way it's released. While the controls are responsive, they need some time to get used to. It has this short momentum until you can attack again (when your slide is finished), leaving you vulnerable meanwhile. A bit more patience, knowing your actual attack range and reading the blinking signs of the different enemies helped me a lot to improve my score. To buy every sword, i agree, slow income. On the other hand though, chasing my highscore while having fun increased my stack faster than i thought. I'm not sure yet which sword i want to go for next. While i don't want to be slower again, a wider attack range could compensate that, maybe. If you like Bleeding Edge or Dark Slash, give this a try. Btw, I like the idea with the shrine in the middle. Edit: $1 to clear the ads Based Xatu Well-Known Member Aug 27, 2013 1,937 0 0 #5 Based Xatu, Nov 8, 2014 Does the dev make more money from ads or from the $1? I like this game enough to just keep the ads, if it helps. This is a blast to play! I went ahead and removed the ads after two games. They were very tastefully implemented, I just always appreciate and use that option if I really like a game. At first I didn't think I liked the control scheme, but after a few minutes it felt perfect. If you do decide to add a virtual stick, I hope it's optional like Qwertz said. My high score is 17,010 and I've been using the saber. It's got great range, but you only start out with one heart with it, so I try and get the health upgrade as soon as I can. Then usually the combo attack (they stack - the green crescent icons below your health), movement speed, health regen, etc. Also, the coin/item magnet is very helpful for saving up for new swords. All the upgrades are useful, it just depends on your approach, and your weapon of choice plays a big part too. I love the way the angles of attack play so nicely into the strategy, making this a quick reflex and thinking game. I played and really enjoyed Bleeding Edge, but while this has the same feel, it's a much deeper and better game, IMO. Congratulations on the game. Very impressive that you did this alone! Is the health regeneration upgrade stackable? Thank you for explaining that. Groquest Active Member Oct 29, 2014 39 0 0 Indie game developer #19 Groquest, Nov 9, 2014 Thanks guys. The orange upgrades in this game are stackable upgrades. Regeneration, speed, range, health, evasion... they all stack. Say if you get 5 regeneration upgrades, you recover 5 health every ten seconds. You can have just one black upgrade per game (except the item magnet upgrade).
