C'mon folks...it's R-Type II!!! GregB Well-Known Member Sep 4, 2009 2,346 3 38 #12 GregB, Feb 12, 2014 Heard R-Type, the original, was brutally hard. How is this one? I liked what I saw in the video, but don't want a game where I can only play the first 2-3 stages cause I can't get passed one. I'm not a very good shumper ;-) Capricornman Well-Known Member Dec 8, 2011 2,992 0 0 #13 Capricornman, Feb 12, 2014 You can try it in unlimited lives setting and see what it takes to get through many stages. Then try the original game settings. This is what I plan on doing Qwertz555 Well-Known Member May 22, 2010 2,318 29 48 #14 Qwertz555, Feb 12, 2014 Honestly, i've never beaten the first one even with unlimited lives and i'm not bad in a shmup at all, maybe because it was a side-scroller. Just saying that i beat three of Cave's shmups on hard in one go, and for me that was an awesome achievement. Now there are two reasons to buy this game. One, i love shooters and two, it's from DotEmu. Period. Ok, three reasons. By supporting them, they keep on releasing games we all like, so don't wait for a sale and buy it today. Got it ? There are mid level checkpoints but they sometimes screw you over if you die and start back because you lose all your power ups. You have to play the level way differently with no power ups. It's a very brutal game. But it love this game so much. The bosses, art style, and soundtrack are so good. Edit: Ok, just played it. I'm really spoiled by the Chris Whitehead Sonic touch screen dpads. I'm having a hard time controlling the ship properly and you need a lot of precision for this game. It feels like the dpad needs to have less dead zone to it. It doesn't feel like a digital dpad, it feels like an analog. I hope that makes sense? Like, I'll change direction and it feels like the ship has inertia instead of immediately moving in the direction you want it to. The other control scheme feels more accurate but is awkward since you need to manage your shield and charge shots. And I have a lot of trouble reattaching the shield in this mode. Definitely an extra learning curve here, I'm sure the Bluetooth controllers help immensely here. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
