Also available: The award-winning Dungeons & Dragons® expansions for Lords of Waterdeep – Scoundrels of Skullport and Undermountain! Welcome to Waterdeep, the City of Splendors! A city run by a secret society of masked Lords who rule with shady back-door dealings and unmatched political power. In Lords of Waterdeep players will play as one of these masked Lords and will need to recruit adventurers to go out and complete quests for them. The more quests they complete, the more control and influence they have over the city. Players can expand the city by purchasing buildings that will open up new opportunities within the city walls. Intrigue cards can be used to help the player and may also either help or hinder their fellow Lords in their quest to become the supreme ruler of Waterdeep! Lords of Waterdeep is a turn-based strategy game played in 8 rounds and can be played against AI or with up to 5 human players. Players take turns assigning their agents to do their bidding, whether it is to recruit new adventurers to their tavern or purchase a new building for the city. Points and resources are gained by completing quests, playing Intrigue cards, constructing new buildings or having other players utilize the buildings you have constructed. At the end of the 8 rounds bonus points are awarded and the player with the most points at the end wins the game. I think 9.99 in NZ is right. Instabuy. I love the physical boardgame. sapphire_neo Well-Known Member Jan 20, 2011 3,934 0 0 #3 sapphire_neo, Nov 20, 2013 Last edited: Nov 20, 2013 Unexpectedly cheap compared to Agricola, but still not going to touch it without the Scoundrels of Skullport expansion, or if SW Master Set is released. Whichever comes first. Edit: Sanuku fixed his pricing error oooooomonkey Well-Known Member Jan 15, 2011 6,307 0 0 Forge World #4 oooooomonkey, Nov 20, 2013 Looks good but..... If they think I'm buying this when they haven't even sorted out the restore purchase in summoner wars they are sadly mistaken. It's been months now and I still don't have all the packs I bought. I can rarely ever get a bunch of people over to play so being able to play one of my favorite boardgames at my leisure or even start the game on my iPad while over at a friends house with no need for setup is going to be a nice feeling! Also: I didn't know that the game has expansions! I own the physical version and am normally in the know of things like that! Thanks to the poster who mentioned expansions for this! Time to go spend some money on buying those later today! oooooomonkey Well-Known Member Jan 15, 2011 6,307 0 0 Forge World #8 oooooomonkey, Nov 20, 2013 Shhhhh don't tell them that, im still angry honest. sizzlakalonji Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze Apr 16, 2009 5,712 1 0 Indiana, USA #9 sizzlakalonji, Nov 20, 2013 This will likely contend for my GOTY. Assuming the answer is no, I'm not sure what you accomplish by not buying the game at launch, other than depriving yourself of months of enjoyment while waiting for the expansion. At the rate they are working on Summoner Wars, I would bet quite a lot of money that the Skullport expansion will be available long before any SW Master Set. LordGek Well-Known Member Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze Feb 19, 2009 12,282 141 63 Software QA Engineer Saratoga, CA, USA #13 LordGek, Nov 20, 2013 I fear that as well. This will likely sell a lot more and, by the very straight forward and accessible game this is based on, plugging in the new expansion cards of LoW would be far less effort than adding more SW AI players or fixing existing issues. Even if they honestly are still trying to solve these SW issues, you know it is just some lone programmer's part-time assignment with whole full-time teams ready to address any issues that come up during the LoW launch. sapphire_neo Well-Known Member Jan 20, 2011 3,934 0 0 #14 sapphire_neo, Nov 20, 2013 The base game is not deep enough without the Skullport corruption for me. Plus, I have a semi-moratorium on any Playdek purchases ever since they killed Nightfall, cancelled Smash Up, delayed SW factions and stretched the I & K decks "fall" estimate to the very limit (let it be noted that I & K decks are not expansions but part of the base set). It's possible I might pass on LoW even with the expansion because you're right, the Master Set bundle might not be complete even by this time next year. Playdek will probably be too busy with Unsung Story, Far East of Eden and whatnot. It's likely that I'm denying myself some enjoyment, but I can't keep rewarding Playdek for releasing properties that shine with expansions and then promptly forgetting about them. I just re-installed to check, pressed the restore button and have all my expansions back, except one. Bit I guess I never did buy that. MrMojoRisin Well-Known Member Jul 27, 2012 1,183 0 0 #16 MrMojoRisin, Nov 20, 2013 In-sta-buy!!! This is one of those games that I have wanted to play as soon as it came out, but haven't been able to justify spending the money on the physical version. A digital version that will not only allow me to learn the game privately, but then play others online is a no brainer purchase for me. And don't worry about the lack of expansions at the get go for this app. Sapphire Neo is the only one I've ever seen complain that the base game was not deep enough. sapphire_neo Well-Known Member Jan 20, 2011 3,934 0 0 #17 sapphire_neo, Nov 20, 2013 LoW is a light worker placement euro, more or less at the same level as Stone Age and Pillars, numerous reviews and impressions will vouch for the weight of the game. Ubisububi Well-Known Member Oct 8, 2009 1,088 9 38 California #18 Ubisububi, Nov 20, 2013 This thing is pretty polished. The map art looks similar to that of Sorcery!, and the birds silently wheeling overhead is a nice touch. It's all nicely organized and, even for a newbie player like me, the tutorial was enough to get me started without blindly stumbling my way through the first few games as I usually do with board game conversions. Oh, and no crashes so far. MrMojoRisin Well-Known Member Jul 27, 2012 1,183 0 0 #19 MrMojoRisin, Nov 20, 2013 I guess it's all a matter of taste. I'm a big "Ameritrash" game fan, and haven't bothered to try any of the worker placement euros, despite some interest to do so, as the themes of them bore me to tears. So a light worker placement game with a cool (and recognizable) theme is just the kind of game I've been looking for. I'm sure the base game will hold my interest long enough for the expansions to come out and complicate it more, and I really doubt I'm the only one who will be playing their first worker placement game with LoW. andsoitgoes Well-Known Member Jun 30, 2010 2,673 58 48 In a van, down by the river! #20 andsoitgoes, Nov 20, 2013 There is something special with this game, I was in the beta and the difference between the versions was astonishing. The game is very solid and polished, and I'm very impressed. If you are on the fence because you don't know the game, watch the Waterdeep episode of Tabletop.
