TowerFight 2 looks very interesting but I will probably have to wait for a bug fix: Biggavelli Well-Known Member Jul 7, 2011 1,106 0 0 Boston,MA #3 Biggavelli, Feb 26, 2013 Downloading, busy @ the moment Ill get to it a little later.Looks good Gabrien Well-Known Member Nov 24, 2009 5,148 0 36 #4 Gabrien, Feb 26, 2013 Game Impressions In terms of content, presentation, character and originality, this is quite outstanding by iOS standards. What lets the side down somewhat are the controls. Thankfully, not enough to seriously impact enjoyment, but there's no denying that they could be improved. Movement is rather floaty, and for mine the character lacks a little weight. Additionally my thumb would occasionally stray outside the input zone, causing the character to remain still when I was trying to initiate movement. The right pad (basically the game is a dual stick shooter if that isn't obvious) suffers from some of the same issues as the left, and strangely does not allow for diagonal shooting. There may well be a reason for this restriction that becomes apparent later in the game, but early on it feels a bit odd. Overall though, this is a title that immediately surprises you with its charm, and makes you feel progressively more and more embarrassed to be playing something this elaborate and accomplished for one dollar. There is no IAP. I do hope the developers take another look at the controls, but as is I can still unreservedly recommend this. bramblett05 Well-Known Member Aug 29, 2012 5,682 0 0 #5 bramblett05, Feb 26, 2013 Worth it to download or wait for Wednesday night? Only got 99 cents left bscotchshenani Well-Known Member Feb 26, 2013 139 26 18 #6 bscotchshenani, Feb 26, 2013 Hey guys! Thanks for the interest. I'm Sam, half of the butterscotch development team (Seth, my brother is the programming side). I'll address a few points of your feedback here! "What lets the side down somewhat are the controls." Touch screens are a MOTHER for dual thumbstick controls. We tweaked those puppies till we got as close as we thought we could, but it remains inhibited by the sleek glassiness of a touchscreen. We've actually already update the game on android with another controls fix that we've found helps quite a bit, as well as a few extra animations for Hardik (some head recoil, for instance). Those are in review by ye olde ios and will hopefully be to you guys shortly. Iphone 5 issues: We're two brothers who quit our jobs 3 months ago to make games full time, so our testing capabilities are AGGRAVATINGLY TINY. Last night at midnight Seth found out it gets stuck in Portrait view on iphone 5. He's fixed the problem and uploaded a fix in the upcoming patch, which will be there once apple gets their dose of coffee. Hopefully today? Who knows! "Worth it to download or wait for Wednesday night? Only got 99 cents left" FREAKIN YES IT IS. Thanks for the support guys. I'll be hanging around, we'll be doing a reddit ama later, and we'll be fielding whatever reviews (cross those beautiful fingers for us) come through today. Here's a fun video that just came out. undeadcow Well-Known Member Dec 4, 2010 9,486 2 36 Houston, TX #7 undeadcow, Feb 26, 2013 Good to see active developers here! I will download this when I get to wifi 5G; landscape fix or no. It sounds like this will help satiate my dual stick shooter fix for a bit. Embedded bramblett05 Well-Known Member Aug 29, 2012 5,682 0 0 #8 bramblett05, Feb 26, 2013 Ill wait for wensday since the review said it stutters alot on lower end devices. (My old touch 4) bscotchshenani Well-Known Member Feb 26, 2013 139 26 18 #9 bscotchshenani, Feb 26, 2013 Holy crap you can embed things here. Thanks for that. The iphone5 fix is in apple's hands, waiting for them to say "OH HEY IT WORKS" before those of you with lightsaber-sized screens can play it properly. Knowing them, it sometimes takes 2 days...most times takes 6 days. But the game is on sale for 99 cents instead of 2.99 for the first few days, so it may be a good early investment bscotchshenani Well-Known Member Feb 26, 2013 139 26 18 #10 bscotchshenani, Feb 26, 2013 there's also an sfx setting in the options which helps a bit with stuttering. You can cycle it to "low" which takes away blood, drops most particles out, etc. Not quite as pretty but more playable. We'll be working on more optimization fixes as we get better acquainted with which devices have what problems, etc. Thanks for the note! So here you go @Vovien aka Martin and @undeadcow. Seth and I started making games 1 year ago. I was finishing up college and he debating dropping out of an MBA/JD program. He came down to St. Louis to participate in the global game jam with me. The theme was a picture of Quetzalcoatl, a snake god that eats itself. Most people made snake-like games. We went a little off the map and made a game where you play as a guy who got warped into an arena of the gods. You choose which god you're fighting for (Quetzalcoatl, god of the land, or Pete, the god of the sea) and you get a different suite of weapons depending on your god as you blow more stuff up. VIDEO FOR YE OLDE ONE Our development process was made from game jam methodology, so things that take a lot of time but give little bang-for-your-buck we routinely find ways to ignore or twist. So, in Towelfight, the main character has a towel covering his legs, such that I didn't have to spend 2 of my precious 48 hours animating them. This happened to modify the story, as he suddenly became a dude who was showering when his worm-hole experience happened. I was also just learning to draw arms, which you'll probably notice a conspicuous lack of in the original game. This is because I could not draw arms at that time. The first arm I drew looked like a banana. Seth looked at it, said "HEY. THAT LOOKS LIKE A BANANA." We looked at each other for a moment, I turned it yellow, and then his arms were replaced with bananas. If you look at the game you'll notice a few of the weapons are the same in TF2. We wanted to pay some homage and thought that'd be a nice way to do so. As far as missing out on story elements or anything, it's a spiritual successor so there's not a continuous story to worry about. But if you've got 5 minutes and want to slap it on your PC you can go over here and do so. It's a kind of fun way to see how far we've come in a year. ps if one of you lovelies could tell me how to embed video that would be magical. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
