It's just not exciting anymore to place buildings of specific types next to each other in order to get bonuses. Are there any interesting new mechanics in this one that might renew my interest? Jdragoon19 Well-Known Member Nov 29, 2010 2,854 0 0 TouchArcade Forums Area 51 #3 Jdragoon19, Nov 4, 2011 I feel the EXACT same as you. Not exciting anymore. At all. The only game I really liked was Game Dev Story. All the other ones after that got progressively more and more boring IMO. Andiron Well-Known Member Oct 14, 2010 268 0 0 #4 Andiron, Nov 4, 2011 Awwwww. You just *know* you want this game... Actually I'm passing on this as well (for now). What I'm really waiting to be released in the one where you play a shopkeeper in a town like in a RPG and your customers are the adventurers killing monsters just outside of town. I think I'd dig that. Oh, and Game Dev Story 2. Goes without saying. Jdragoon19 Well-Known Member Nov 29, 2010 2,854 0 0 TouchArcade Forums Area 51 #5 Jdragoon19, Nov 4, 2011 ALL Kairosoft games eventually go down to 99 cents at one point (and I still probably won't be getting it then). Yes, really looking forward to Game Dev Story 2 as well! nicodemus82 Well-Known Member Jul 12, 2010 1,068 0 36 From Wales. It's similar to Pocket Academy in the overall mechanics, but there's a lot of new stuff too like crafting, walking distance, land value etc that make this one different. If you want a little more info on the game you can find a lot here.. http://kairospot.net/community/threads/edo-towns-info-guide.1017/ DodgerBlue016 Well-Known Member Jun 25, 2011 1,398 0 0 I create awesome paper airplanes that I will sell Here #7 DodgerBlue016, Nov 4, 2011 When I saw this, I immediately figured it was for the Japanese version! Wow, interesting to see it hit the US (I think this was one I didn't think would ever hit because of the Japanese themes not neccessarily mixing with US). bprichard Well-Known Member Apr 11, 2011 175 0 0 Global Operations Manager Shanghai #8 bprichard, Nov 4, 2011 Maybe that's why there is that "Oh!" in the title, to properly register the surprise of this release. That said, were I playing this and someone asked me what I was playing, I would orgasmically yell out the Oh! and mumble the Edo Towns part. nicodemus82 Well-Known Member Jul 12, 2010 1,068 0 36 From Wales. Currently living in Canada #9 nicodemus82, Nov 4, 2011 the reason for the 'oh" in the title is this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oh!_Edo_Rocket djflippy Well-Known Member Mar 9, 2009 4,441 0 36 #10 djflippy, Nov 4, 2011 Game Impressions I'm really enjoying this one. I would say it offers more than Pocket Academy offered over and above Hot Springs Story, if that makes sense. Some systems are similar, like combos thankfully, but others are new. Overall yield dictates your progress and this is a composite of a number of factors, including buildings and people. Townspeople have a greater emphasis in this title, it seems. Best of all, the game takes place in feudal Japan, complete with the ownership of a giant castle. Kairosoft rarely disappoints and Oh! Edo Towns carries forward that fine tradition. Stan Well-Known Member Feb 15, 2010 1,392 0 36 USA #11 Stan, Nov 4, 2011 You're probably right, but the time period is called 大江戸 oo-e-do, and it probably didn't make sense to market it as "ooedo", as generally people wouldn't understand/know how to say it so they may have just gone with Oh! (as an English word). And Oh! Edo looks better than Ooedo in my opinion. nicodemus82 Well-Known Member Jul 12, 2010 1,068 0 36 From Wales. Currently living in Canada #12 nicodemus82, Nov 4, 2011 Actually the time period is called 江戸時代 (Edo jidai) or The Edo period with no "O" so they could simply have gone with Edo Towns as the title. I think it's more likely that they took inspiration for the title from the stage play 大江戸ロケット Ōedo Roketto like I mentioned before, but you never know I guess.. Kairosoft are very unpredictable NinKuji Well-Known Member Feb 23, 2011 112 0 0 Socialworker Germany #13 NinKuji, Nov 4, 2011 Oh! Downloading now What a nice unexpected surprise early in the morning. It just feels like a re-skin of all their other games, but with the premise and topic of the game getting less and less interesting with each release. Don't think I'll be picking this one up even if it goes on sale. Kairosoft needs a new schtick. Bad. Quazonk Well-Known Member Mar 30, 2011 1,102 4 38 #15 Quazonk, Nov 4, 2011 That, or they just wanted to make a super-Japanese-sounding game title. "Hey! Currently living in Canada #16 nicodemus82, Nov 4, 2011 If you actually played the game you'd see that it isn't just a simple re-skin. sure there's a lot of similarities with the core mechanics, but there's a lot of other elements that make the game completely different too. bprichard Well-Known Member Apr 11, 2011 175 0 0 Global Operations Manager Shanghai #17 bprichard, Nov 4, 2011 Can you give me a quick summary of the new mechanics? I'm actively looking for reasons to buy this (eventually, King of Dragon Pass is keeping me plenty busy for the moment) because I am looking for reasons to be positive rather than pessimistic about this game and the general direction of Kairosoft. teme Member May 10, 2011 16 0 0 #18 teme, Nov 4, 2011 This looks very promising, especially the theme of building old japanese town sounds great! I love Kairosoft, but the theme in Pocket School Story or Hot Springs Story didn't interest me that much. Grand Prix Story was okay, but I didn't really "feel" it either. Game Dev Story was awesome, and I really liked Mega Mall Story too. But I do agree with some of you, that Kairosoft should take a leap forward and release some more "advanced" building simulations. It's come down to whether you like the subject or not if you get one of their games - do you like a mall or a race track; like a hot springs or a Japanese town. I am quite sure if you played every one you would get burned out rather quickly. As mentioned, the only one somewhat different is Game Dev Story and hopefully the second is different enough from the first. multimage Well-Known Member Apr 15, 2011 323 0 0 http://www.kingcashing.com #20 multimage, Nov 4, 2011 I also think I'll wait for a price drop on that one. I've been buying Kairosoft games the day they came out since Game Dev Story, but those scrolling isometric games are the ones I don't like as much as the others. My 3 favs are Game Dev Story, Grand Prix Story and Mega Mall Story. I do like the other ones, not just as much as the 3 different ones. So I'll wait... (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
