Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Halloween is inching ever closer, and the Halloween updates are ramping up in lock step. I’ve found a nice variety of updates for you to check out that don’t lean too heavily on the seasonal theme, but there are still a few in there. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Bloons TD 6, $6.99 Do note, dear readers, that this update applies to both the regular paid version of the game and its Apple Arcade + counterpart. This update brings a new Goliath Doomship to the game called the Monkey Ace Paragon. There’s a new intermediate map called Covered Garden, and a new advanced map called Midnight Mansion that fits the season. There are new trophy store items, various balance tweaks, and some other little improvements to enjoy.
Vigil RPG, Free There isn’t a whole lot to this update, but I will use any excuse I can find to bring up fun games like this one that don’t get a lot of attention otherwise. The changes this time amount to reverting the icon back from its fifth anniversary version and adding in some more humorous and/or clever dialog for the bartender. I once again encourage RPG fans who haven’t played this game to give it a shot. That’ll do, on to the next update!
Jetpack Joyride 2, The original Jetpack Joyride also got an update, by the way. The Bling Event is back. Anyway, the sequel’s update. It has some new story levels that will take you to the end of the Moon Tomb and allow you to defeat Queen V. There’s a Haunted Skeleton skin here to match the season, a new Cola Jet jetpack, and some new leaderboards. There are also the usual performance enhancements and bug fixes, in case you were worried about that.
HEROish, I don’t play this one at all, so please bear with me as I try to convey new elements that I don’t know about. In this latest version, all of the campaigns have received some new cards, a Brutal mode, more random encounters (everyone loves those), and some rewards for beating each of them with the various heroes. Those new cards are also available in multiplayer, and you’ll find the player level cap has been raised two levels. How was that? Good? Or am I in big trouble? If I am… you’ll never catch me, JOHNNY LAW! VROOOOOOM!!
Simon's Cat - Story Time, Simon’s Cat got another update this week, and it’s about what you would expect from one for this game. You’ve got a new story to play called Teddy’s Terrific Tour where you can unlock new garden decorations to help make Teddy the kitty feel at home. ‘Teddy’ doesn’t feel like a cat name to me, but okay. There are more levels to play, some bug fixes, and various improvements to the visuals and overall app performance.
Amazing Bomberman, I’m glad that Bomberman is still alive of course, but it makes me a little sad that he and Momotaro are basically the only Hudson properties that see active use anymore. The world is definitely ready for more Bonk and Adventure Island. You could do an Adventure Island runner and it would be the most natural thing in the world. Oh well. This update has fifty new mission levels, a new stage called Midnight Fever, and some new parts to customize your character with. There have also been some adjustments made to the control options, so hopefully players can find a layout that is comfortable for them.
Disney Magic Kingdoms, Free If ever there was a reason to do a Halloween update, it would be to add the Hocus Pocus characters to a game. And if ever there was a reason to add the Hocus Pocus characters to a game, it would be a Halloween update. Sometimes things just work out. Anyway, this new version adds the Sanderson Sisters to the park. Mary, Sarah, and Winifred are looking to cast some magic in this limited Halloween event. The new Season 2 content has also kicked off, because every game apparently needs seasons now, allowing you to earn some new rewards in exchange for finishing a variety of tasks. I’ve had a spell put on me so I have to give this game the coveted UMMSotW for this week. No choice.
ANOTHER EDEN, Free The updates for this game feel like they are getting smaller and smaller, but I guess it is getting up there in years now. This latest version adds a new subquest, Journey’s End and Beginning, plus a new encounter in the form of Another Style Okaminokami. That’s about the size of it. I wonder if this game will see any further big collaborations, or if the Chrono Cross one was the last of the lot? Only time will tell, but if that was the final one I can’t think of anything more appropriate.
Toy Blast, Free No, I didn’t forget this time. The Obligatory Free-to-Play Matching Puzzle Game update goes to Toy Blast this week. It has fifty new levels! Fancy that. The story around them involves the mailman somehow being afraid to deliver to Rhino’s house, which strikes me as odd because surely he is used to bringing letters to various creatures by now? If you care to see how this story plays out, you know what you need to do. For me, I’ll just pretend that mailman accidentally saw Rhino let out a toot in the local Walmart and is mortified because he doesn’t know if Rhino knows that he knows and is really uncomfortable with that potential situation coming up in small talk. Scary!
Injustice 2, Free If you smell-la-la-la-low, what Black Adam is cooking! The Black Adam movie, which has no relation whatsoever to Shazam and please stop asking, will be out very soon. Or is it already out? Anyway, The Rock is in it. So are some other people. James Bond is playing Doctor Fate and that is kind of rad? In honor of the monumental event of a new DC movie actually getting out the door in one piece, Injustice 2 is adding Black Adam to the game. He brings with him new artifacts, League difficulties, a Halloween event, and some bug fixing. Hawkman will also be arriving soon, similarly inspired by the Black Adam movie. I hope it’s good. I really want to see more JSA stuff in movies, and this seems to be the dry run for that.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
