With MLB The Show 21, Sony’s San Diego Studio-developed franchise made its way to Xbox platforms for the first time. This was the first PlayStation Studios title to hit Xbox as far as I know. At the time, the franchise was also expected to come to Switch. Over the last few years, Sony has become more open to bringing its games to other platforms and the company is also exploring mobile. When MLB The Show 22 was revealed, a Nintendo Switch version was officially confirmed making it the first PlayStation Studios release on a Nintendo platform. Over the weekend, a new job listing from Sony’s San Diego Studio hints at a mobile version of MLB The Show.
The full job listing which you can view here is for a Senior Mobile Programmer at San Diego Studio with experience on mobile application development for iOS and Android. Considering the MLB The Show is now on Nintendo Switch and with prior entries also on PS Vita, I wouldn’t be surprised if the very successful MLB The Show makes its way to mobile through PlayStation Studios in the future. It likely will not be the same game, but a bespoke version for mobile that will possibly be free to play. As of now, if you want to play MLB The Show on the go, your options are the upcoming Nintendo Switch version or playing the Xbox version through xCloud if it is supported on the service. Have you played Sony’s MLB The Show over the years and what would you like to see in a potential mobile version?
