The folks at Shallot Games, makers of such stylish and fun titles as Vista Golf and Sprout: Idle Garden, have announced their new mobile project and it’s launching in just a couple of weeks. This new game is called Tides: A Fishing Game, and if you can’t figure out what the game is about based on that title, I’m not sure what to tell you. Something Shallot has done so well with their previous projects is blend the incremental progression systems of idle games with simple but compelling gameplay mechanics and then wrap it all up in clean and colorful visuals, and it looks like Tides will be following that same pattern. You can see how it all works in the following trailer.
Now THAT is a chill vibe, friends. Unlike most fishing games out there, Tides isn’t a very challenging or mechanically complex game when it comes to actually catching the fish. That might sound strange, but if you think of this more like a very pretty and fancy idle game then it makes more sense. Tides is more about catching and collecting all the various fish, unlocking and upgrading a series of cool watercraft, min/max’ing a small island fishery empire, and in general just enjoying the relaxing experience. Of course, this is all still in flux and already Shallot has been talking about new content ideas like a Tournament mode that would add a more challenging aspect to catching fish.
If you want to see what the current version of Tides is all about though, and then offer your own feedback and suggestions, Shallot is currently holding an open beta test and you can find a Testflight link for the iOS beta in this thread in our forums. The game as it is currently is pretty close to a release candidate and the plan remains to launch Tides on iOS on February 2nd with an Android release to follow sometime after, but this early player feedback will no doubt help shape the immediate and longterm future of the game.
