Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for June 26th, 2020. In today’s article, we have summaries of the remaining new releases for the week. Not so many as yesterday, but still a healthy batch. There’s a bit of news on Animal Crossing that I didn’t want to wait to share, and a really large list of new discounts with some intriguing deals on it. Let’s roll on in!

‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Summer Update Adds Swimming and More
For as much fun as Animal Crossing: New Horizons is, the game is still catching up to its predecessor’s feature set in a lot of ways. Well, we’re about to check one big thing off the list. The first part of the big Summer Update is coming on July 3rd, and it brings swimming back to the series. Put on your diving suit or swimwear and wade around in the waters near your island. Find shells and sea life, and maybe even meet some new and returning characters. With this new area to explore comes new items, crafting recipes, and furniture to collect. The second part of the Summer Update will be arriving in August, but there aren’t many details on that beyond the likelihood of it including fireworks. We’ll probably hear more on that at the end of July.
New Releases
A Summer with the Shiba Inu ($9.99)
SwitchArcade Highlight!
There’s a lot of junk with little value on the eShop thanks to Nintendo’s very relaxed approval process, but I’m willing to put up with all of it if it means we sometimes get something like this. It’s a visual novel about dogs that uses real photos of dogs in costumes, and I probably don’t even need to go any further for some of you. Anyway, the story is that Syd the Shiba Inu comes back to Shiba Island after a decade away, and her return kicks off a series of events involving many of the other dogs on the island. You’ll have to make choices along the way that will lead to one of three main endings, with some slight variants depending on how you treat the other dogs. There is also a button dedicated to making the dog bark. Heck, I’m sold.
Yes, Your Grace ($19.99)
SwitchArcade Highlight!
Heavy is the head that wears the crown, eh? You’re the ruler of a kingdom whose resources aren’t exactly infinite. There are petitioners asking for your help with a wide array of problems. To make things worse, war is brewing outside the walls of your kingdom. You’ve got a lot of choices to make, and you’re going to have to deal with the consequences whatever they may be. Do the ends justify the means? That’s something you’ll have to decide. This game doesn’t really have a lot of surprising or interesting game mechanics, but the storytelling is handled very well and I found its narrative very compelling. Cool stuff. Needs a Dog Bark button, though.
City Driving Simulator ($11.99)
Ugh, look at that screenshot. It’s stressing me out just looking at it. Anyway, this looks very much to be a mobile port, to the point that they didn’t even remove the virtual buttons from the UI. It has ten vehicles which the description suggests are “awesome", but they just look like a bunch of normal cars, trucks, and buses to me. If you drive the bus you actually have to pick up and drop off passengers, so that’s something. There are a bunch of challenges to complete, and the faster you complete them the more rewards you’ll earn. These kinds of games are a dime a dozen on the Switch, and nothing about this one makes me think it’s anything special.
Urban Flow ($14.99)
Arguably one of the finer games on the Switch where you control traffic lights, Urban Flow gives you the task of making sure traffic flows smoothly at various intersections. No crashes, no traffic jams. Keep things going without any incidents and everything will be fine. There are 100 different levels, offering plenty of content for you to dig through. But wait, there’s more! There’s also an Endless Mode and something called Chill Mode that lets you just relax and enjoy the sights and sounds. Oh, and I didn’t even mention the multiplayer mode for up to four players. It’s local only, but that’s probably for the best with this kind of hectic experience. Seems neat, especially if you have people to play with.
Sudoky ($2.99)
This looks like a straightforward take on Sudoku, and… that’s exactly what it is. Well, okay. It includes 300 puzzles across three levels of difficulty, and it also packs in a random level generator that will keep you playing for a long while should you be inclined to do so. The presentation doesn’t have much to offer, but the developer at least managed to include a number of different color schemes. I mean, it’s three dollars. It’s clear about what you get, so it’s up to you to decide if that’s worth your pocket change.
Arcade Archives Wiz ($7.99)
Wiz is not a very good game at all. Released in 1985, it’s an action game where you play a wizard whose parents rather prophetically named him Wiz. He can use eight different types of magic and is on his way to kill a dragon. Sounds fine, but it’s pretty poor even for its era. This is a significant release in that it marks the first Seibu Kaihatsu game to be released in the Arcade Archives, a licensing arrangement that will eventually give us the Raiden games. And hey, even if I don’t like some of the games in question, it’s nice to see obscure titles given the star treatment from Hamster.
Grisaia Phantom Trigger 01&02 ($19.99)
This is a follow-up to the original Grisaia, and sees the characters come back together at Maihama Academy. You get two volumes in one purchase here, taking you on two adventures with the crew. It’s a visual novel, like the first, and one without any choices to make or anything. So you’re really just settling in for a nice read with some well-done art, with no alternate paths or endings or anything. If you enjoyed the previous stories in the series, you’ll probably like this one as well. I don’t think it’s as well-written as the original installments, but it’s certainly compelling enough to keep you turning the proverbial pages.
Being Stronger While Playing! SilverStar Go DX ($39.99)
I don’t usually need to cut and paste titles, but I would have had to look back and forth three times to write this one out otherwise. Seriously an awful title for what looks to be a rather nice Go game. The aim here is at teaching players how to play the game, something that is useful in countries where it hasn’t caught on. There’s a strong AI opponent here for more experienced players, of course. The main concern is something you might ascertain from the odd title. Go is a complicated game that can be very difficult to explain, and I’m not confident the English localization here is up to the task. Well, it’s not like you’ve got a ton of options for decent Go games on Switch that also teach you how to play.
Sales
(North American eShop, US Prices)
Yeah, as expected. There are tons of new discounts to look at today, and quite a few good ones. Like Double Dragon & Kunio-kun Retro Brawler Bundle for half price. Wow, that’s a lot of classic fun for a small amount of money. VA-11 Hall-A is also in there with a nice sale price, providing thrills for those who want to be a CYBERPUNK BARTENDER OF THE FUTURE. If you’d prefer a more Japanese-flavored narrative experience, WorldEnd Syndrome and Alternate Jake Hunter are right there for the taking. As for the outbox, it’s on the smaller side and I’d really only recommend checking out the 10tons twin-stick shooters. But that’s me. You should have a look with your own eyes, of course.

That’s all for today and this week, friends. Another game-filled week in the books, but this summer isn’t slowing down anytime soon. In addition to the big updates hitting Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and the next big Tetris 99 event, we’ve also got a full slate of games to look forward to. Games like Trails of Cold Steel 3! Well, that’s sort of the main one, but who knows what surprise releases may come? I hope you all have a great weekend, and as always, thanks for reading!
