It’s been just over two years since 10000000 ($2.99) and You Must Build a Boat ($2.99) developer Luca Redwood announced his newest project Photographs with an extremely teaser-y teaser trailer. So teaser-y in fact that it wasn’t until the following December when a more fleshed-out trailer was released that we had even some semblance of what Photographs was all about. Even then though, all we could really gather was that Photographs featured puzzle elements but was designed to be a narrative experience first and foremost. And it wouldn’t feature just one story, but five different stories. We were also assured that it is like nothing we’ve ever played before. Sound cool? Heck yeah it does. Well at long last we’re finally going to be able to experience Photographs for ourselves as the game is set to launch on April 3rd, and alongside that release date announcement this haunting new trailer has been released.
Yeah, it feels sort of weird describing a puzzle adventure game with colorful pixel art as “haunting" but I can’t think of a better description for that above trailer. Really all this mystery just makes me even more interested in checking out Photographs. The game will cost $2.99 and is available for pre-order on the iOS App Store right now. It will also be coming to Android and Steam. Photographs seems like quite a departure from the fast-paced matching gameplay that made us fall in love with Luca Redwood and EightyEight Games many years ago, and seeing a developer grow and evolve in such ways makes me incredibly excited. We’ll likely have more on Photographs next week at GDC but be sure to mark your calendars for April 3rd anyway as I don’t think this is one you’ll want to miss.
