Gamevil’s latest epic RPG got its own lite version today, Hybrid: Eternal Whisper Free [App Store] offers a brief look at the world of Hybrid through three included battle stages where you will be able to master nine different fighting skills.
Hybrid is an adventure roleplaying game with an extensive skill system all wrapped around a brawler-style fighting game. You play as Grey, a kid with a mysterious past protected by an equally mysterious guardian named Fairy through a quest that will take you numerous hours to complete that touches on a number of RPG cliches along the way.

With every enemy you kill, you gain experience points and in-game currency which can be spent on an impressively deep character customization and upgrade system. The combat is the star of the show in Hybrid, and as you fight through each level you eventually gain more moves, techniques, and magical attacks to dispatch your enemies. These attacks can be chained together to form massive combos, and fighting entire gangs of baddies at once can be fairly satisfying.
Like Zenonia, there are a lot of people who love Hybrid, there’s a thread on our forums filled with fans of the game. I do appreciate all the work Gamevil has put in to the game, and as you level up and gain more abilities, watching Grey fly around the screen killing enemies is fairly spectacular.

Where the game fell short for me, however, was in the seemingly endless amount of button mashing and thumb swiping required to kill all the enemies on a level only to watch a cut scene with tons of dialog, then get back to mashing the attack button. Regardless, I still recommend trying the free version, because opinions on this game seem divided, and you could find yourself amongst those who can’t get enough of Hybrid.

geoSpark looks nice!
Omg, geoSpark's looking good!
lol that's awesome.. the various vector sprites are an IP in and of themselves.
Reminds me of aqua globs.
Its a copy of Aqua Globs, I am not suprised, 1st game is copy of Flight Control :) funny isnt it?
and all vehicles with 4 wheels are a rip off of the automobile invention. Although I can totally see how adding LEDs to a tennis racket only makes playin tennis at night while high... awesome!
Aqua Globs meets Orbital, which isn't a bad thing, at all.
If it comes with the music from that video clip, I'm SO sold.
Sorry, I don't have time to listen to a thirty minute podcast. What
is geoSpark?
There's a video of it in the article.
Do you have time to scroll all of the way to the bottom of the blog post? There's a video of geospark right there.
do you have 2 seconds to pull your thumb out of your ass?
Do you have two seconds to read the other two replies? I agree that the post was a stupid one considering all he had to do is scroll and look (and I'm probably the last to be saying this), but don't be an ass about it.
@AaronAMV,
not sure how reading the other two replies is going to pursued me that Greg is a hamburger short of a picnic.
Well, when I look at the video all I get is a play symbol with a
slash going through it.
PS Ouch! What did I do to you guys?
I'm only about 30 minutes in but I just got through the Real Racing GTI segment...
Why was there no mention that VW is actually GIVING AWAY REAL CARS!? It's far less "cheesy" when you can win an actual GTI...
Kinda reminds me of Eliss... without the holes you have to place the planets or orbs on.
Ah, geoSpark is one of those type of games. Not my thing, but clearly there's a market for it judging by the reception in these comments. I hope that he's just licensing his art to Imangi while he's working on a different game for his own studio.
I am really surprised you are having such strong negative reactions to squareball, your comments come off as very similar to the people who didn't like geodefence for being too difficult. It does have a high learning curve, which you point out to be it's biggest draw back(though the levels actually do start out extremely easy, with a verly slight raise in difficulty from one to the other), but it feels as if you didn't play the game enough to get past it, to "learn it". I found that as I went along there was a real progression in skill where I could go back to earlier levels that troubled me and blast through them. Once I found myself used to the game, I never had those moments, that you describe, where deaths were out of my control, weren't my fault. Perhaps you just prefer tower defense games, and I am hardly saying you are wrong, I personally didn't love geodefense(or tower defense games in general) but excuse me for attempting to make the excuse, "perhaps it's not the game that sucks, but you."
geoSpark looks really good. Loved already geoDefense and geoSwarm (hopefully there will be published some more levels too). Not easy, a real challenge, very fine modernized retro graphics and impressive sounds.
Great job on the podcast guys! I'll totally be tuning in next week. I especially liked the different perspectives between the dev and you guys. Great show. Oh, and yes, GeoSparck sounds like a ton of fun ^_^
