With the fantastic launch and reception of Sega’s Sonic Mania now nearly a month behind us, the company is focusing its lasers on their other new Sonic game which is slated for release in November. The game is called Sonic Forces and sees the iconic blue hero leading a ragtag group of resistance fighters against the evil Dr. Eggman, and similar to 2011’s Sonic Generations it’ll feature both “modern" and “classic" version of Sonic where the modern version plays in a behind-the-back 3D perspective and the classic version plays more like the original side-scrolling Sonics. Anyway, apparently one of the marketing tools to coincide with the console launch of Sonic Forces is a mobile game tie-in, which Sega has soft-launched in the Philippines App Store this week. It’s called Sonic Forces: Speed Battle and it’s a behind-the-back runner similar to the popular Sonic Dash games but with a competitive angle, and you can see it in action below courtesy of the BlueParadox YouTube channel.
I’m a huge fan of the original 16-bit Sonic games, and I absolutely love Sonic Mania, but I’ve never been able to get into any of the many, MANY other modern Sonic games. But I do admit having fallen pretty hard for the original Sonic Dash (Free) when it launched way back in 2013, at least until the free to play shenanigans of trying to collect characters got the best of me. I’d kind of had my fill by the time Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom (Free) came around in 2015, but I actually think I might be ready to jump on that train once again with Sonic Forces: Speed Battle. If you’re interested in taking the game for an early spin yourself, you can grab it from the PH App Store with the link below, and you can find discussion on the game in our forums. I’d imagine the official global launch will happen around the same time Sonic Forces launches on console and PC on November 7th.
