‘Photographs’ is The Next Game From the Creator of ‘You Must Build a Boat’

Have you been waiting on a new game from EightyEight Games? Have you heeded the command that You Must Build a Boat ($2.99) a bunch, and am interested in something else? Well, the studio’s Luca Redwood has released a teaser trailer for a game called Photographs. The teasaer aims to reveal the mood for the game, described as a “puzzle game that tells five tragic stories." Interesting, and out of left field for EightyEight Games.

Luca Redwood is hanging out in our Discord channel, and dropped the hint that the game would feature pixel art, and not just the endearing programmer art of 10000000 ($2.99) fame. No, Octavi Navarro, whose art you’ll see in the upcoming Thimbleweed Park, will be providing artwork for this game. So it should be a looker. Given EightyEight’s stellar track record, high expectations are to be had for Photographs. No pressure or anything!

The two games I like are Snake Pass and Overcooked, they both are something new and I hope those two come to IOS, don't know if Snake Pass can be played with only touch screens, but someone can hope.

The Nintendo Switch and the iOS App Store are going to benefit from developers making the same games for both platforms.

That's a great way to look at it! Hopefully, we'll see more quality premium games on the App Store thanks to the Switch.

This! As soon as I learned Unity and Unreal engine were supported, I started hoping for a torrent of ports.

The Switch is shaping up to be a dream console for me

This is actually the main reason i would want to buy a Switch - all the indie games i could play on it. I never played Shovel Knight, Hollow Knight looks great, Enter the Gungeon is fantastic - would play it more on go. Etc. Loads of great indie games that i don't feel like playing on pc/ps4 as there are often "big" games i want to play first. I love mfi + iphone 7 and there are games like Binding of Isac or Neon Chrome that do bring this "AAA-Indie" experience , unfortunately not many. Switch can fix that for me.

This. That is why I ordered one. I may as well switch to a blackberry for email and text as switch will be my go to mobile gaming platform.

Shovel Knight and Hollow Knight are great. I am playing them both now!

Indie games on iOS are and will be way, way, way more robust and varied than the Switch. Cheaper too. The Switch platform is all about promises and potential. When the system actually delivers on its supposed bright future, it might be worth buying. Having said that, the Wii U was also about a bright future that never came.

The problem with the Switch is that it's just an Android tablet. And in order to maximize profit, Nintendo must coast on it for three years at a minimum. The real profit comes from software sales on these devices, and there currently is no software for this platform (apart from the apparently exceptional Zelda game).

Each year, Apple will update its iPads and iPhones and the Switch will only remain in its current state. Why would anyone want to buy this device? For Zelda? For a Metroid game that might come in 2018? What will the specs on an iPad look like in 2018 and what kind of games will it feature?

This is just another failed and dysfunctional stepping stone in Nintendo's inevitable evolution to a software only company like Sega. They're going to be publishing exclusively on iOS sooner or later. They're still half measuring it and it won't hold.

I really enjoyed the "Blaster Master" games on the SNES and PS1,I am curious how this will look on the Nintendo Switch.

    War groove all the way!

If the Switch gets a Netflix app there will be no reason for me to ever own an iPad again. Well, maybe I'd keep it around for magazines and digital comics, but that's about it.

Or until you fill the hard drive up, which apparently doesn't take much.

    1. r10k

It doesn't have a hard drive, and you can expand the storage with a card.

      1. rtificial

Why is it that a phone smaller than a switch has a bigger hard drive? Buying a card is just one of many additional costs you're gonna have to tack onto the 300 price tag just to make having one not a pain in the ass.

        1. r10k

It's not a hard drive! It's flash storage for goodness sakes.

Who knows why it has less built in storage. Maybe because the components of the Switch are more expensive than what's in a phone? Maybe it's because the internal storage is quicker? I have no idea.

But your point is fine- yes it's a costly device. No argument there.

    2. Daxmort

This isn't an iPad, there is no static onboard storage. You buy microSD cards, so storage is figuratively limitless.

      1. rtificial

It has 32 gigs of memory. iPhones have bigger memory than that. Having to buy a bigger memory card on top of expensive system already? That's backwards.

      2. Chowderbatter

        Yeah.

As limitless as your checking account.

  8. Chowderbatter

    Economy of scale.

    Look it up.

Nintendo can't win because Apple makes more devices, higher profit, and so can always provide superior specs at a lower cost. Nintendo can't match that. Ever.

Nintendo is clinging to a dying model. The console platform only becomes profitable years after launch. In order to make money, the specs must be frozen. But the competition (smartphone, tablet makers) do not stand still. That means the sweet spot for profitability for this console (or console/handheld, if you prefer) is long about 2019-2020.

Samsung, Apple, and all of the other device makers will only continue their steady advance. The Switch is barely appealing right now. How will those specs look one year from now? Two?

    Come on.

Just ordered mine on Amazon.ca. Had to buy it through the link Nintendo sent out in their email at around 2am CST. When I did a regular search on Amazon.ca it was only third party sellers, but the Amazon buy link through the Nintendo website through that email got me one at retail. Worked for me, hopefully anyone that wants one is getting it and not having to pay gougers. :')
