Plasq.com has released their first iPhone game to the App Store. Pharos IV: Assault [App Store] is available for an introductory price of only $0.99. The game is a space shooter in which you must defend your starbase:
Your mission: defend the starbase at all costs against all comers. Enemy fighters and destroyers relentlessly attempt to eliminate you and your starbase – but your superior technology and skill might be able to prevail. Refuel in the treacherous neighboring nebula – but watch out for wandering asteroids! Good Luck!
The game uses the iPhone’s accelerometer to control the ship’s movement. In the end, this works reasonably well once you get used to it. A Lite version is also available [App Store] so you can try out the first three levels.

Hopefully it's better than Pharos III: The Search for Kain
Pharos IV has the beginnings of a great game. I've been playing this for a few days, and visually, the 3D graphics are some of the best I've seen for iTunes. The controls are not difficult to master...I set the sensitivity all the way down. And the details are good too. You can hit an enemy ship and see gas/steam leaking. The game itself needs more missions and ships you can upgrade to, but Pharos is something to try.
Oh my, how have I missed those X-Wing space simulations. This will fit the bill for now...
Just checked the App Store reviews and found 7 reviews, most of them giving 4 or 5 star reviews, so that guarantees a buy from me...
Review coming soon at my site... unless I can't get my hands off the game... :P
@XCool: I think you'll like it...one of those reviews are from me.
You checked the full version saying it's Free. ;-)
May check this out some time.
Thanks for confirming my worst nightmare, Big Albie - how do I peel such a great game off my hands? :D
Wonder if it's like the old Star Raiders for the Atari 800?
Had a lot of fun with that!
From looking at the video and the 4.5 stars from 7 reviews, I'm gonna risk my .99
wow. this looks amazingly similar to Useless Software's "Space Wars" screen saver, which has been on my desktop for years. some of the textures and models appear identical in the video.
Its a one trick pony, shoot badguys while flying around, it certainly could be expanded about a 3 and half star game as there's not much going on besides shooting the enemies, it plays nicely, looks nice but doesn't do anything special.
Now what I want is Tie-Fighter...
Good game for .99 cents, hopefully they update it with more missions etc. THis make me wish EA remakes Wingcommander I thu II along with the secret missions on the Iphone and Touch.
Gee I wish someone would take an engine like this and make an Elite game already! I mean the age demographic of iPhone owners is obviously for the main above 20... Considering the number of Amiga ports that are coming to this platform surely taking a graphic engine as cool as this and making a Frontier/Elite type of game is only a matter of time... Is it just me hoping for this on the phone or am I truly truly stupid?!!!
Ok now I think different about the game and I will buy it, thans Eli Hodapp and Toucharcade
Will wait for inevitable .99 price point. Sounds decent, but at times frustrating.
Thanks for the thoughtful review.
Check out the Challenge mode too - it's a lot of fun to challenge your friends via email. We'll soon be adding that feature to WordFu along with a bunch of other things via an update.
I bought this as soon as it was released. It is well worth the $2.99.
The only thing I have a problem with is the crashing after unlocking the iPod touch and the random crashes.
Also I wish there was a free play mode that had
Choose your ground base
Choose time limit or unlimited time
Choose how many blocks can be lost or disable that
Choose to enable to disable the motion sensor
I would also like to see more modes, shapes, shape designs and ground bases in the future.
The trick with the triangles is to toss them to the side and not even try.
You should try another iphone physics game named FancyStacker.
