‘Pokemon Go’ Said to Launch in Japan, Europe, and Other Asian Regions “Within A Few Days”

TouchArcade Rating:

While Pokemon Go (Free) is seeing such explosive growth in the USA that the servers can barely keep up, most of the world can’t even play it yet without some minor hoops to jump through as it’s not available on many other App Store regions yet. Of course, if you’re willing to follow our guide on how to download soft launched games, you can easily get Pokemon Go on your iPhone wherever you are… But, if small amounts of hassle aren’t your cup of tea, according to the Wall Street Journal, Pokemon Go will be launching in Japan, Europe, and other Asian regions “within a few days."

Personally, I’ve got my bets on the “real" worldwide Pokemon Go launch happening with all the other game releases this Wednesday. The launch of the game has been real weird so far, as it’s release in the US market felt more like the soft launch expanding than what we’d typically expect of a big game hitting the App Store. Noodlecake’s Super Stickman Golf 3 (Free) saw prime featuring while Pokemon Go has yet to get any feature love for Apple which seems … odd. Unless of course, they know something we don’t know, like the game actually really officially launching this week worldwide.

Anyway, it’s just a rumor but Wall Street Journal has had some incredibly great sources in the past when it comes to all things iPhone, and it just makes a lot of sense for The Pokemon Company to capitalize on how red hot Pokemon Go is right not. At some point, it’s doing them more harm than good keeping the game region locked to a few App Stores.

Is recommending bypassing the region lock a good idea? If the whole reason for the issue with the game is too many people for the existing servers, suggesting that even more people get past the soft launch seems silly. That aside, there have also been reports of bans and other problems for those getting the game before they are supposed to.

      1. Milotorou

bans ? the only site insaw talking about bans was just pulling the words out of their a**

If theres been bans show me proof. I really dont think they would ban by the millions though, you should see how many other canadians got it earlier, its crazy, i see people playing pokemon everywhere in montreal.

        1. Maelwolf

Not sure what proof you would want, a quick Google search will show multiple sites reporting the possibility of bans. Whether or not you believe it is up to you. I personally wouldn't doubt it though, as such players are aggravating existing issues in the game and are circumventing barriers in the game to gain an advantage over those that get it on official release. That's the definition of cheating, and companies do often ban cheaters.

    10. Wizard of Odyssey

I don't care if people are playing it (good for them!) but I sure am sick of reading about it all day long.

      1. Brawwwn

Yeah. Since it's release one week ago, Touch Arcade has published 27 articles on the game. That's f**king ridiculous.

        1. Rob Funnell

Polygon, a website which generally covers console games and not mobile ones, has written 15 articles on Pokemon Go just today, and probably over a hundred since its launch. It's a global worldwide phenomenon and in literally every single media outlet, and it would be stupid if the biggest mobile gaming site didn't cover it extensively. We don't make you read them - there are a lot of other articles that aren't Pokemon Go you can read here instead if you're so inclined.

          1. speedyph

Well put rob people don't understand how big this is

Tweetbot lets you mute tweets by keyword. Great for anything being over covered or generally annoying (e.g. insert political or pop culture person of your choosing here).

      Sigh.....
Here comes a flood of more F2P, Freemiums, online only and clones coming to mobile now and it will actually start to get exorbitantly expensive playing games.

There really will be no incentive to port console, PC games or 'full' paid games anymore on mobile.

Oh well, on the bright side I am managing to save money yearly by just cherry picking and focusing on 'full' console, PC games on mobile.

I hope the mobile gaming demographic will start to realize that you can often spend in excess of $50 a year on one F2P, Freemium games a year, if they started tallying every purchase of 'energy', 'time', item' essential packs, etc..throughout the year.

It has to sink in that you can't have a company make $millions to $billions for something that is "Free", that money has to come from somewhere.

      1. HelperMonkey

I don't spend money on consumables, and very rarely play any F2P games, but I think it's unfairly dismissive to assume that people spending money on these games are acting purely out of ignorance. Some people just like this stuff.

    12. jarland

Clash of clans didn't make the cut for comparison? I really would have put it at higher adoption than several of those games.

    13. HelperMonkey

I'm expecting this to spur some incoming augmented reality hybrids of successful genres. Big name developers are noticing, and will try to capitalize on AR.
Think scavenger hunt-styled CCGs, and location-based MOBAs. AR PvP? Why not?

    14. Press2Play

Wow now we will see alot of pokewannabe games.
