If you were one of those who were hoping to get Gary Grisgsby’s World at War, the classic grand strategy game, on mobile, get ready for some disappointment. We’ve talked a few times in the past that Slitherine, the publisher of quite a few strategy games, has decided to shift attention away from mobile and focus on PC. Well, it looks like GGWAW has fallen victim to that shift since a forum post a few days ago put a tombstone on the project despite the developers actually getting the game to work on mobile. More specifically, the forum post explains how that project was more complex than the team initially realized, and while they were able to get it to run on iOS, the UI was too much work for the small team assigned.
The UI issue, though, wasn’t the only thing that doomed the project. According to the forum post, the team didn’t want to put more energy and money into the project because of how quickly Apple changes the goal posts. The decline of premium games like this one on iOS and the old code base would translate to the team never recouping the money it would put in. It’s quite unfortunate, yet also understandable, to see Slitherine continue to step away from iOS because there aren’t many publishers bringing those types of games to the platform. Well Paradox Interactive, it’s up to you now to fill in the grand strategy gap.
