‘It’s a Space Thing’ is the New Head-to-Head Game from the Creator of ‘FlipChamps’

TouchArcade Rating:

Brad Erkkila, developer of the fun FlipChamps (Free), is working on a new game that uses a similar formula, but new gameplay: It’s a Space Thing. Here, you’ll be running along your side of the arena with open walls that loop back around to each side. You can fire upward, but also put up 3 shields that take a few hits to be eliminated. You can spread these out, but only give you a few spots where you can fire upward at your opponent, or cluster them all in one area. To entice you to come out of safe harbor and go for the win, powerups that provide more powerful weapons will fly across the screen on occasion.

It’s a Space Thing is primarily a score chaser, where each kill nets you an addional point, with bosses you can fight as you advance in the singleplayer mode. A mode where you just fight each of the bosses can be unlocked as well. And unlike FlipChamps, a local multiplayer mode will be available at launch; this is quite welcome since this also works well for head-to-head competition! It’s a Space Thing is still in development, with a release date of, and I quote: “Who the heck knows? Probably some time this summer. I’ll post more progress as I go." And if you want to see that progress, Brad Erkkila is sharing media of the game and beta invites in the game’s forum thread.

I can't get Fahrenheit to work, and some other apps I download just say loading the whole time and won't install. I foolishly have whatever the latest iOS is for iPhone. I wish there was a way you could tell without buying or wasting the battery and Gaga Bitzels if something will work or not. How about that app store feature, Apple?

          1. Alexythimia23

Man tallgeese i feel for you, Fahrenheit is one of my all time best gaming experiences ive had on ios and has controller support to boot, maybe if u keep trying it might work? I downloaded Terraria when it was first released a few years ago, and to this day i cannot play it! I have uninstalled and reinstalled on every update and easily over 20 times ive tried but it never works, even wrote to devs who did not have any fixes so thats one game i also can never play 😟

Thanks, maybe I'll try clearing up 2 gigs worth of space again to try, I played it with a friend briefly on PS2 a long time ago, but after my last attempt was thinking I'd just have to watch a Let's Play. Sorry Terraria doesn't work for you (double sucks because you seem to really want to play it), I played it briefly, but like Minecraft I think it's better with friends. Hopefully one day you'll get that holy grail, Dr. Jones.

Holy grail?! All i ever get is that huge ass boulder!
Ive given up on Terraria sadly, i dont want too but it looks like i dont have a choice in the matter 😔
Farenheit is best experienced in the dark in bed with headphones preferably when the weathers bad to add some extra ambience to the experience, nam i envy you first time play is awesome!

Twin Peaks atmosphere? Instabuy for me!

I say that on all the games I make just to get the rubes! Ahahahahahahaha! RUBES!

        1. Tallgeese

...And by that I mean the people named "Rube" (I believe it's short for "Ruben," a ghastly name apparently employed by fathers and mothers who are big fans of the sandwich and want the world to know), and through some strange cosmic er... constant it is impossible to have the nickname "Rube" and not love Twin Peaks. Don't be alarmed, we currently have our top men studying this phenomenon.

Thank you for your insightful replay! Coming from a guy who's spamming an upcoming game comment section about his inability to make his games working - means a lot!

      Looks great! Watchlisted!

Looks scary! Added to the "No-Fly list." You'll all thank me one day!
