I love silly, strange games. I have an entire folder dedicated to games like Enviro-Bear 2010 ($1.99), So Long, Oregon! ($0.99), Wrassling (Free) and many more. Solo developer Matt Sime and his studio Two Fish One Chips appears to have his sights aimed dead square at that folder on my device with his upcoming extreme kayaking game Yakin’. It’s a chunky, top-down, fast-paced kayaking adventure that also appears to be summoning the spirit of the classic arcade game Toobin’ just a bit. Check out the trailer.
Despite looking like a wacky, over-the-top, low-res take on kayaking, the developer has actually been an avid kayaker for more than 15 years and believe it or not Yakin’ is actually grounded in some realism in terms of how you control the kayak and how the levels are setup. Exaggerated realism, of course, but it’ll be interesting to see an actual kayaker’s vision of video game kayaking. Yakin’ will be arriving next Thursday, April 21st.
