Last week we posted about a huge update that had just hit Magic Duels (Free) and I somewhat sarcastically mentioned that it seems like with this game for every bug Wizards fixes, new ones pop up. Well, that’s true once again with the latest Magic Duels update, and this particular problem might be the most game-breaking yet.
If you don’t play Magic, a big part of the game involves what’s called “passing priority" back and forth. I can do all sorts of things while holding priority before I pass priority back to my opponent to then respond to those actions, which all get thrown into something called “the stack" at which point you figure out how everything that got played resolves. Holding priority and interacting with the stack is a major part of the game. Presumably to speed up play, Magic Duels now automatically passes priority if it doesn’t think there’s anything left you can (or should?) do, even if there is. Check out the following example:
There’s a whole thread on Reddit filled with other issues, by this one by far seems the most severe as its rendering entire deck archetypes totally unplayable. I really want to keep giving Wizards the benefit of the doubt when it comes to Magic Duels, as Magic is an incredibly complicated game… But as someone who has been a life-long Magic fan it just kills me that this iteration of the game has been plagued with crazy issues. I just really hope this isn’t the kind of thing that we can expect of Magic Digital Next.
These types of big changes are usually introduced with new iOS versions aren't they? So maybe September? It would be great just to be able to find the app you're looking for when you're doing a search, instead of it being halfway down a list of thousands of apps. Also it would be awesome if you could search for just games or whatever category of app you're looking for. Thanks for the news, Eli.
Just fix the search, it's tough enough finding the right app in a sea of Chinese knockoff apps.
A filter function would then be awesome.I would click the hell out the China button.
At least fix search enough for exact matches. I'm tired of typing in the full and exact name of the app I want and STILL not seeing it.
Have to agree. For games, my tried & trusted method is to search here on TouchArcade, then tap on the green price button. Anything not game related is a matter of pot luck, sifting through acres of crud on the AppStore. It's all well & good them keeping the Featured page looking user-friendly, inviting & proessional, but it doesn't take much of a delve into the Categories (at least on the UK AppStore) before it's apparent that some AppStore employees either don't know or don't care about what they're doing. E.g. The 1st New game under "Categories > Games > Card" is Monopoly Slots (a Vegas style slots game) & the 2nd New game there is Bingo (which also doesn't involve cards, if I remember correctly).
I'm ambivalent about paid search. But a better search algorithm, a la The Big G, which considered trends, history, popularity, and *ahem* accuracy, would definitely be nice. And if they could marry that to some sort of knowledgeable and responsible curation, beyond just new releases of the week, they might have something good.
Google as an Internet search engine is second to none. The search in the Play store on the other hand is terrible. Way worse than Apple's App Store.
Hope they finally allow Developers to do something about troll reviews. Even a reply option like they do in play store might be good
What about paid reviews that falsely inflate app ratings? Those are far more insidious and widespread. Developers might not be the most unbiased and fair judges of which reviews are "trolls" and which are genuine complaints.
but having a direct response to reviews helps developer communicate with those who has certain complaints about the game/app. These ppl post their complaints, demanding a fix, gives a 1/2 star, but refuse to feedback to the developer with details require for an investigation via a proper communication channel.
I'm not saying devs be given the option to delete reviews, but at least let them post a direct reply to a review, and let the original review provider receive a notification.
I get vague stuffs like "feature X is buggy, 1 star until it is fixed", "the controls are too small", when there is obviously an option to change the size of controls, "the physics is wrong!" and I have no idea what is wrong with the physics, etc etc. I would be able to take better action if i could ask them for more details.
Well, I can certainly agree that developers should be able to respond directly to comments. That just benefits everyone, even the ranting reviewer. Of course, along with an honest rating system, this would require Apple implement a better method of presenting review comments in the App Store. However, after all these years, I just can't see Apple devoting resources to making an honest, balanced, and transparent App Store.
Most those reviews are probably from services like FreeMyApps and gnomescape
I have found some amazing games that have been hidden in the deep basements of Appstore. Feel bad about those developers.
